I’ve noticed comments complaining about you swatching. The thing about these videos is we as viewers are very capable of fast forwarding the video if we really don’t want to watch the video in its entirety. These videos are valuable and it’s obvious you put a lot into them. The swatching and explanations are a part of your process and valuable if not upon first watching but is information we can always go back to later on. I appreciate that you put so much of yourself in these videos and that’s exactly why I tune in and I often times enjoy playing them in the background when I am doodling. Never compromise your expression and process within these videos no matter what anyone has to say. Your channel and you as a person, even as a virtual stranger, are such a blessing to my life 🤍 Thank you Sandi and God bless 🌼

Really appreciate that! It is disheartening when people leave rude comments- I do put a lot of time into these. When my husband watched this he said “people should be paying for this” 😂. I hope it’s helpful to most and I know it will be boring to some. Just don’t understand when people have to say ugly things. Thanks for your kind and encouraging comment!

The mix of of colors , freedom, playfulness and childlike joy makes your work pure magic to my eyes and inspires me to express these qualities in my own work. Not only is your artwork absolutely amazing but you yourself are totally precious. Keep your beautiful smile and down to earth sense of humor you are like a shining diamond in this world. I never really got the swatching in your videos and I watch, watch again. rewatch, watch and paint, watch….Or listen and drive.… BUT this video was THE ONE that clicked in my brain why swatching is necessary to my artist development… Sandi thanks for another Art Aha in my journey. It’s just so much easier to stop watching and move onto the next video if you don’t like what the person is talking about, rather than taking the time to post a comment with what appears to be a selfish complaint. I *rarely* comment on threads like this, but it’s just so tiring to read critical comments, even the “subtle” critical ones, that people make just because they don’t personally like something, rather than you just move on quietly. We have enough negativity around us, but choosing to lift someone up instead of cutting down doesn’t just help them, it may just help the person making the comment not be so harsh. Thank you for all of these, Sandi. You are a light. ❤

I agree. If I don’t like something I would never leave a bad comment because I can go watch something else and I know a ton of work went into it.

Dear Sandi, I have been obsessed by your videos once I came across them. I am so inspired by your looseness, your not afraid of making mistakes, having fun, experimenting… Also, I have always believed I was such a messy artist and that it was wrong. But seeing your process, your confidence about your messiness and trust in the work you do totally got my art heart buzzing again. I cannot believe this was free, but very thankful for it as I cannot afford any lessons. You made me make art again! Also love your Christ inspired art 💚

Long time lurker here, but this may be my fave of all your videos so far. It can be tough to teach people how to go from a row of standard paints to a powerful range of custom colours and values but you demonstrate it BEAUTIFULLY here. I will be referring to and recommending this video from here on out, spot on.

    This video is AH-MA-ZING!
Sandi your videos helped me gain the confidence to go from a pre-packaged-48-colour-palette to a limited palette of warm/cool primaries. It has truly been life-changing, and I can't imagine ever going back! Now that I've become comfortable with that, I've been itching for a deeper dive into colour mixing and this video couldn't have come at a better time! Honestly, I'd pay good money for a long series of classes on colour mixing from you. (I know you have some in the acrylics class which I might take after I finish your Landscapes class, but GOL-LY do I adore seeing you swatch! There's just so much to glean from them, so many delicious tidbits and gems to pick up along the way.
You are a fountain of inspiration Sandi, thank you so much for sharing your light, kindness, creativity, knowledge, experience, and FUN with us! So so glad to have found your channel, it's truly been life-changing (:

I’ve been painting abstracts over a year and LOVED this video! It helped me find the holes in my training. I needed the reminder to look for other ways to mix a color. All the classes I’m taking recommended a limited palette for harmony, but my paintings are very dull, bc I mix with white so much. And your painting is so inspiring. • @starlucanyaart

I'm sorry if you had bad comments about your swatching, i find interesting to see all this colors, so don't worry it would please to many others. I'm deeply passionate with colors, so swatches are the best way to see great ranges of colors, and it could help and inspire to find some harmonious or original mix. Mostly that you post real original swatches that are so beautiful, so keep going. Beside, you make your best to make valuable videos, that are simple and authentic (while many others artists make sensationalist videos instead to make real art), so keep going on, you would always have people that would love what you do, including me. You put so much soul in your art, and it's all that matter to me. I understand how you could feel, i had similar feelings (as my channel did'nt worked, i stopped to post my art). It's sad to see people complaining on authentic videos like yours. because the day that someone like you would stop to post because of that, it would only stay sensationalist videos that wouldn't fill the soul. Yours fill the soul and inspiration, so i hope you would continue to share your art (as long as you want). thanks for the time and energy you take for US and for free. And people still find way to complaint, while you offer a real valuable content for free. They don't realize their chances.

This was such a useful and insightful video,a great look into how you create the palette of colours you use i your amazing paintings and the different tones and values within those colours. Colour mixing is something I feel we are constantly learning and re-learning through out our lives as artists. I agree with the idea of always having go to colours in a palette and going beyond these, and things like warm and cool. this is something that once you have in laerned in the best way for you as an artist you can apply it into all the differernt mediums you work in as well. You gave this lesoon a fun angle and perspective and how learning this under pins all the art you create from it..Thank you Sandi for sharing this with us. (matt)

I found this video relaxing & interesting at the same time. Seeing how you swatch was useful to me. I have a swatch book with all the swatches in boxes with labels but I might try laying it out on a blank watercolour sketchbook like yours with the premade colours then the mixes while checking the value range. Inspirational!

Such a wonderful video Sandi and timely for me as I begin to try to make sense of value and adjust the colors I use when I paint. I am working through your Bird class, and I am at the lesson on your limited palette for the owl lesson. This helps me immensely to gain a greater understanding of value. Thank you for all your hard work in sharing your expertise. Of course Grady and your laughter is such a treat too and brings such joy as we all are able to share a glimpse into your supportive partnership. Looking forward to revisiting this video often.

Sandi…me again…I always think of the things I want to share with you and your viewers…has anyone tried the Beechmore sketchbooks? The packaging is amazing. They are hard bound and cream paper and absolutely amazing. The pages aren’t as thick as Stillman and Bern but, not thin…like perfect they are bleedproof…especially if you put down a gesso ground or an under paint. They are affordable but the quality is through the roof. I just found them and ordered in every size. They have the xl like your moleskin but it’s $30.. I mean I can’t get over it. No I’m not affiliated with any products…I’m just a lowly starving artist lol, but want to always share amazing finds! Please check them out.

One of the best videos you have done! I learned a lot because you narrated your thought process. That is a very important way to learn. So I appreciate the time you took here. It would be very helpful to hear you narrate a painting process with value in mind. The other thing I found to be a jewel was your referral to having the burnt sienna be mixed by what is on the palette to aid in the overall harmony: unpacking that would be awesome too. I had not thought of that as a reason my "keyboard " may have issues😂 plus, now I just want to go swatch swatch swatch! Thank you, Sandy!!
