  • Extend your range of diesel truck. We got tired of having to stop in nearly every town in Alaska to top off while towing. We were never sure if we would make it to the next town. We had an external tank installed in the truck bed but we really wanted to replace the existing tank with an XXL 52 Gallon tank from Titan Fuel Tanks. They make a great direct replacement for your fuel tank that is a direct swap. We had access to a lift for this install but we wanted to see how easy it was to install on the ground in our garage because not all of our viewers will have access to a lift. Check these tanks out. You’re not limited to being just a RAM owner. Titan makes fuel tanks for the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon as well. Unfortunately it’s just for the diesel models.

    I did the same for my 2018 3500 CCSB and then I traded it in for a 2022 Ram 3500 CCLB and made sure I got the 50 gals tank, yeah I know if I had known I was getting a 2022 Laramie I wouldn't have had it installed. It came in handy towing cross country with our 37' rv.

    I thoroughly enjoyed your videos, thank you for doing them. Yes it's too bad for us Gas boys not to be able to get extended tanks, I don't think I've seen an extended tanks made since the early 2000s for that same years of Gas trucks.

    Hey Dustin, I just subbed I saw you have a 3500 and you're in Alaska, so am I! With this crazy snow this year I was looking for ways to improve my 3500 for snow and just fuel efficiency. Watching your videos now! I think I need a bigger fuel tank now instead of hauling around jugs of fuel to be safe LOL!

    Thanks for the video!
    On the floor in my garage (on a 2022 Ram 2500) and no helper took about 6 hours. The straps come curved and you have to flatten them out. Then angle the retention heads that hook into the frame at about a 65 degree angle to lock them into the frame. Then the majority of the 6 hours was spent trying to hammer/bend/push/press those strap back into place. It is best to use a floor jack to hold the strap in place near the new bend and continue to TRY and form the strap around the new tank. It would have been SO much easier with a 2nd set of hands.
    The tank has been working flawlessly. I am currently awaiting my security by-pass cable to come in so I can adjust the fuel tank setting using an OBDII
    Additional costs I was not expecting were for:
    OBDII (with blue tooth) $20.99
    Security by-pass cable (permanent mount, this one you install and leave it in place) $49.99
    or
    Security by-pass cable (temp mount, this one connects to your truck and protrudes out slightly) $27.00
    AplhaOBD software $49.00
    I spoke with a guy at Titan and he pointed me in this direction as another customer previously addressed the "miles to empty" solution.
    Currently I have driven about 250 miles and my needle just came off the Full tank mark!

      I reached out to Titan and asked them about gas versions. They responded with something along the lines that gas burning is so heavily regulated by the EPA issues that they are not allowed to modify a gas burner to to change the tank size. That's paraphrasing their reply.

    I installed this tank and went to the dealer to have them reset the PCM in order to account for the larger tank. All short bed trucks will not accept 52 gallon tank programming. What I have heard/seen is the first 10 gallons do not budge the tank gauge. And the last 10 hold around the E level on the tank. Anyone find anything different or are we just using average mpg times gallons on the tripometer to determine range?

    Great video! Although I thought the megacab short bed Titan Tank was 50 gallons, not 52? The 52 gallon shows for extended cab short bed. Any issues setting the EZ-LYNK fuel tank to 52 gallons since there is no 50 gallon option bud?

    • @DustinFaddis
      @DustinFaddis  2 года назад +2

      Great question Tony, I forgot to post an update. So online the track says 50 gallon but the box came with instructions that said 52 gallon. I called them back and you’re right, it’s a 50 gallon. The latest ez LYNK update has added many more fuel tank sizes so you can add an auxiliary tank and add that fuel as well. They now have a 50 gallon option. We’ve gone on a trip and traveled 900 miles before fueling up. We weren’t towing anything but that’s great range

Side not I installed the Titan tank last night, what a pain that was swapping it on the floor. Did you tighten down the band straps completely down to where the curved portion where the nut seats, is resting on the truck? The tank band mounts with the long studs, drive shaft side. Seemed like I was going to compress the tank too much if I went completely flush with the bracket.

I was actually unable to get the straps fully seated with the larger tank. It has about a centimeter, maybe a half inch gap. Plenty of threads hold it and it’s not loose. I got underneath a few times after I installed just to check that it wasn’t getting loose.

    I thought about doing this for my 2500. But I have read/heard that it could void any warranty associated with the fuel system if something goes wrong? Thoughts on that?

    • @DustinFaddis
      @DustinFaddis  2 года назад +3

      They would have to have a very good case of what you did directly effected the fuel system. For example if you replace it and the sending unit fails right after. I would expect that they wouldn’t cover it. I would tend to side with them at this point. You probably didn’t do something correctly. If you start getting bad readings and your fuel fuse doesn’t work, if they pull the tank down and it turns out you crushed an electrical wire going to the sending unit then they won’t cover that… “obviously” . However, if your fuel pump or fuel injectors go out then they will cover those. I’ve worked at dealers and most dealers Are there to help you unless you messed something up. I hope that kinda answers your question. I don’t find it to be an issue.
