After some consideration I’ve decided to purchase the factory harness for this application. If I buy it, would everyone like me to make a video highlighting the install using it? Please comment down below and let me know your thoughts. Thanks.
Great video. Thanks for also showing the programming of it. My Dealer thought that the supplied factory harness for the up fitter was a spare trailer harness. And no other dealership knew about the up fitter switches. So thanks again.
Thank you for the video. I was in the process of hooking up some alley/inspection lights on my 2022 Ram 2500. I was having power/relay issues with the harness supplied with the LED lights. Your video resolved those issues for me.
If you have the up-fitter option on your vehicle, (which you do) it should have came with a bag full of wires pre-terminated and waterproof specifically for those plugs. If you don’t have this bag, I would highly recommend visiting a dealer to get one.
@@BuiltbyBurns mine was in the infloor storage bin in the back. Others have found them either under or behind the rear seat. One of the things in the bag is a jumper connector you can use to supply power to a wire that is already run to the rear of the truck from the factory (near the rear bumper). This would let you run a wire from the rear bumper to the pump instead of from under the hood.
I remember reading that now that you mention it. Thanks for the info. You seem to know quite a bit about these trucks. Like I said In the video, I searched for a while looking for the answers and ended up being more confused than anything. I’m contemplating making a whole new video using the harness for others to see. I will have to order one first though.
Thanks for the video, it helped out. Didnt know how to tap into the switches. If you read on the website, it says in there that you can move the different size fuses to any socket. All the switches and gear are rated for the same amperage.
I am still learning how all of this works but I know that you are able to move the relays/fuses around to the appropriate aux switch. You don't have to use Aux 4 just because thats where the 25amp is (I think thats what you mentioned). You can just move them to which Aux switch makes the most sense for what you are trying to power. I am OCD so my front LED light bar will be Aux 1 and Rear spot lights will be Aux 6 etc.
Excellent video, every other video I’ve seen on this has made this a lot more complicated than it needed to be after watching those other videos I was thinking damn what’s the whole point and then putting these switches in there but after seeing it kind of what I was expecting out of the switches so I’m glad I came across your video before. I decided to wire anything up yet.
Yeah I got the upfitter bag, but I have been in electrical field 20 year and now doing hotshot, got 2018 ram 3500 laramie longhorn mega cab, going to do auxiliary tank, thanks for the info on all this!big help brother! And I like your connection! And route planning. Takes an electrician to know one! Even got that same silicone wedding band lol!
Thanks, it’s an Amazon special. Works great. Here’s a link www.amazon.com/X-Tronic-3020-XTS-Digital-Display-Soldering/dp/B01DGZFSNE/ref=mp_s_a_1_12?crid=12BV2DT6K1EQO&keywords=solder+kit&qid=1644353886&sprefix=solder+kit%2Caps%2C194&sr=8-12
Just FYI, as far as ive experienced, these trucks are supplied with an upffiter harness kit that includes the correct terminals to install in those connectors under the hood. Look in the glove box or under the seats.
My 2021 2500 came with a package of pre-terminated wires that have a rubber plug attached to replace the one that was removed from the harness plug. It was hidden under the rear seat along with the cold weather grill blanket. (Has the snow-plow prep package)
I’ve recently purchased this connector and I’m planning on making a new video on how to properly install it. Just need the time to do it. I’m pretty busy right now with work so once it’s start to get cold I’ll throw the truck in the shop and get the content out there.
Good job on the power side and Aux switches. Where do I go to see how the best-neat-clean way to bring camera cables and the actual power wire into the cab? i.e. getting cables to my screen mounted in the cab.
Yea I know that, when making the video I started to get into that but being I have a electrical background I kinda got into an electrical tangent about fuses and wire size etc, in the end I just edited it out of the video and was trying to keep it as informative yet not overwhelming for most viewers. If that makes any sense lol. Sometimes I go over board on topics and when I’m editing I just cut it out.
Yeah this helped a lot haha when I pulled the aux box out I was like wtf! Haha so this video helped a lot for this 5500 for running a compressor and a pto as well. Dig the video !
Guys. If you install a rigid industries light with the built in relay, just wire up the blue switch wire into the Ram Aux switch. Cap off the the black/red wires. No need to worry about amperage either.
I also have a 2021 Ram 5500 limited, which has and what looks like the same wiring schematics. I was wanting to install running board lights with turn signals & courtesy lights, was wondering where to tie into for the turn signals & courtesy wires. Where would you tie into? THANKS! Great video too!
Great video with good information. I just purchased a Ram with these switches and a Snow Chief Package in Pensacola FL. Yes in FL. Dealer is taking what ever they can get in 2022 and so did I. Had to give up my Gucci 2013 Laramie (Emissions) for a Big Horn with nothing more than these Aux Switches. I'll be adding things and you saved me some time. I appreciate young guys like yourself who can still do things. Video left out the BS and was to the point. Two thumbs up!!
Mopar sells wires for the kit that have sealed tight plugs won't you pull out the green ends on the harness might be worth getting so you don't get moisture in there and run out the whole plug
The 4 wires that u r not sure about will flash headlights/tail and turn Look up the vism on that body sight and there should be a wire kit to pug in to that with the truck
Installing the switches in the cab. My ram did not come stock with the ram switches. the wiring provisions are there. I have to wire in the switches themself as well.
Awesome video! Thanks for doing this. You’ve made it so easy for people to understand. I love that soldering station BTW. Where’d you get it? Thanks again!

This is a really good video, my only question is, is this possible to do with a ram 1500? I know the diesel model 2500 switches wouldn't work but what about the 6.4l hemi models? I'm looking to get those switches connected to a light bar on my 2018 1500
Buddy that’s somthing your going to have to use ole google for. I’m not even sure. Maybe someone else on here can comment but I’m pretty sure the 1500 models don’t have any of this stuff under the hood. I bet you could find some retrofit kits out there though. I’m not sure what your looking to power up But it’s really not that big of a deal to throw a nice switch on the dash and wire up a relay under the hood to power it.
I was looking at using these as a way to turn on/off interior 12v devices (GPS/tailer monitor screen/Trailer TPMS/etc.) is there an easy way to do that? What you're showing above gives me hope. I did see that the new Fords have the wiring run inside as well.
Should be as simple as running the power wire into the cab to power up the devices. From there you can figure out a way to plug into that power wire and then use the switches to turn them on and off. It’s pretty easy don’t over think it.
So I looked into the harness and if I am correct it’s really only worth it to buy if you have a pto in the truck. As for the Flat pin connectors with the wires they do make a factory seal when inserted into the grey plug so is it really worth it to buy the harness or just do what you did which also is sealed when done
If you poke the hole through That green grammar you took out because slipped that On the water before crimping your connector. That way when you plug in your connector slide the Grammit down and seal the hole
Watch my latest video here. I literally just installed one on this truck and it works with key off. ruclips.net/video/2aJrIn5OUl8/видео.htmlsi=9-GNuMSMD0GkRT9B
Why didn’t you use the connectors from Ram to install this? Both of my newer Ram’s 2014 and 2022 came with connectors for the aux switches. I’m not trying to be a smart ass about this. I’m just wondering if you thought it was better to use the spade clip?
So I looked all over for the factory harness before I made the video and was unable to find it, I figured there were other people like me in my situation so I made the best of it and made a how to video doing it this way. It’s been problem free but I need to probably purchase the factory adapter and make another how to video using it I suppose.
you want the ground to be a foot or two from the pump not running all the way back to the engine grounds. same as if you were hooking up an amp in a stereo application.
I don’t have access to the site myself either. I’ve been made aware of the issue and I’m working on getting a diagram for everything. When I have it I’ll post in my discription. My apologies.
I just used a generic one from auto zone. It was a bit of a tight fit but after a little trimming of the crimped area (remove the cover after crimping) I was able to use a pair of small needle nose pliers to guide it in there. It’s a bit of a fight I won’t lie. But you’ll get it.
@@BuiltbyBurns I actually found the OEM connectors. It’s apart of the Uplifter package. I had the wires in a bag under the back seats. You just gotta find the right size one then pick a color
I’m not sure if the outfitter ports are on your vehicle or not to be honest. Pop the hood and see if you have those two grey and light grey connectors on the right side behind that battery. We can go from there.
@@BuiltbyBurns just for future reference, the two grey connectors under the hood come on vehicles both with and without aux switches. Even Basenotes tradesman trucks can be optioned with the auction switches. The fastest way to know if the truck has the option is to look at the dash to see if the switches are their or not. If they are not their you need someone to custom make you a harness, flash the computer to add the programming, and order a couple of factory parts to add them, but this is rather involved.
The site is no longer available to the public. I’m aware of the issue and I’m working on getting some answers for everybody. My apologies. When I have the diagrams I need I will find a way to put it into my video discription.
so i have a 2019 ram 3500 DRW. i want to put the aux switches on the dash but i have looked and cant find the upfitter box under the dash. i have the fuse box under the hood but there is no grey wire connectors next to it. what do i have to do to get to having working aux switches
Soldered connections are far more likely to crack from vibration. 99% of connections on a modern vehicle are crimped besides circuit boards. Even warranty repair procedures from oem suggest crimped connections. Go ahead and solder all you want but it’s doesn’t make you superior and you’re not nearly as informed as you think you are. That gob of solder wouldn’t even work for 90% of pins that aren’t a massive spade connector
I crimped AND soldered all connections. After a solid year of abuse we have had not a single issue with it. Thanks for the hateful comment though. There’s always a few negative people like yourself out there. Also I don’t care what your oem warrenty repair procedures are these days, car manufactures build things designed to fail. On purpose. Thats a fact. Thats how they make money, over and over again. So go ahead and follow your little instruction book. I fix engineered products for a living. That’s what I do. Everyday. I take a product that multiple college educated pricks designed and I fix it in the field because it broke. That’s what people call me and pay me to do. I don’t usually respond to comments on here, but when someone brings up “ that’s not how the book tells you to do it” I get a little angry. I’m not a sheep. I don’t follow all instructions. Reply back if you want I don’t care. Just letting you know now this is the end of the conversation. I’ve got more important things to do then argue on the internet. 🍻
Truck speaker Amps along with alot more are 100% soldered, never had one crack. Been soldering wires on off road vehicles for 30 yrs, never an issue. Solder and crimp is bullet proof. Good job Guy. God bless the USofA

The site is no longer available to the public. I’m aware of the issue and I’m working on getting some answers for everybody. My apologies. When I have the diagrams I need I will find a way to put it into my video discription.
not just anyone can go to that website.
Body builder website is gone now.
Looks like they don’t want it open to the public anymore. I’ll see what other alternatives I can come up with. I appreciate the heads up.
@@BuiltbyBurns was there a document you downloaded? Maybe put it on Google docs?

They took the website down.
What is he calling that a Bolt Tank? I call it a transfer tank!
Bulk tank
Thank you for making this video!!
