A mother has filed a lawsuit against Southwest Airlines, claiming racial profiling after she was accused of human trafficking.

  • @yoni-in-BHAM

I'm a mother of multi-ethnic children. When my daughter was about three weeks old, I proceeded to take her to her doctor's appointment for her checkup.

  • @KenishaBarker

I’m black, my husband is white, and we do a lot of international traveling with our kids. I have no problem with airport officials asking my kids questions. Trafficking is real and more prevalent than many Americans realize.

  • @lifeontheline435

People want to do something to stop trafficking, but as a survivor I can tell you that what most people think they know about it is so wrong that it can actually make things worse, like in this case where racial profiling diverted resources to the wrong direction. People insist on a very narrow idea of it and won't listen to what trafficked people have to say about it. It means being willing to hear some painful, hard to hear things.

Sadly, after this lawsuit, if they'll be punished in millions, Southwest employees might be ordered not to act on any suspicious passengers.

This woman had her daughter’s birth certificate, and other forms of proof, All they had to do is ask! But they called the police and made a spectacle of them….on top of not believing she was going to a funeral. It was clearly mishandled. And its not like they’re going to jump off the plane by being questioned.

“Under the control of a guardian”? “Can’t go to the bathroom by themselves?” Seriously? That’s called BEING A PARENT‼️These people need to go deeper in their analysis because they harass real people while letting real criminals move around freely.

I would NEVER let my child go to a public bathroom by herself. All manner of evil happens in those places. And some kids are naturally shy, they will not speak to a stranger. I believe the only thing 'suspicious' about this mother, was her skin color.

  • @Elaine-ee1eh

She said a mouthful “Stop and check your biases before you call the police”! People of color been saying that for decades so I hope you get their attention!

Children need to be protected at all cost. I am a mother of a biracial child, and I would not at all be bothered by being stopped and interrogated. This mother is suing because she feels like she was racially profiled...If that's the case, Black people should be putting in similar lawsuits everyday.

As a mother of a biracial child, I had my daughter snatched out of my arms on a train. So this is a RAW subject for me. I love the idea of doing some research on passengers before holding them up as they exit the plane. While I want to protect kids who are being trafficked, with technology we can be smarter and protect the rights of traveling parents.

Man, my son is somewhat on the spectrum. He is also mixed. If a stranger asks him a question even when I'm standing next to him, he will not answer and won't look them in the eye either. This is nuts.

  • @AramintaRoss53

My former co-worker is a BW that birthed four blonde, blue-eyed daughters with her white husband and she was constantly asked if she is their nanny.

  • @panamasrose

People of color are seen as suspicious all the time. This mother has a melanated child and is experiencing something she did not grow up experiencing. I hope her daughter is in touch with her father's family to learn how to navigate a society that will automatically view her with suspicion.

This has been happening for decades, SOMETIMES WORST (for those who say it’s not the same).

  • @nyieshahopkins6700

Dear mother. Your child is not perceived as black. Your daughter is black. Those are America’s rules. Teach her she is black and things go differently for us. If you do not she may face more heartache and harm than you know. Biracial is a word for your home, your family and friends. Don’t blame me blame America.

  • @texasgirl6000

Pathetic money grab! Now airline employees won't ask questions anymore for fear of being sued. Traffickers will be happy about this.

  • @KlaudiaShaefferr

This moms hurt feelings are NOTHING compared to a child’s ripped organs and lifetime trauma! The airline did nothing wrong!

  • @worldrenownedchickenchef

Either you question everybody or you question nobody. The rules and laws should apply to ALL, not just certain individuals who look like this or that. The airline’s system is terribly organised and run.

  • @jackieheidorn5875

I find it odd that one of the "flags" for identifying a potential trafficking child is that they do not talk to the airport/airline people when we as parents have been telling them since they could sit up is "beware of and don't talk to strangers".
