I'm a mother of multi-ethnic children. When my daughter was about three weeks old, I proceeded to take her to her doctor's appointment for her checkup.
While sitting at a bus stop, an anglo woman approached us and asked if she could see my baby. I let her have a peak but didn't say much because I'm quite shy. No less than three minutes later, two police cars pull up at the bus stop on the curb. The officers hurried over and proceeded to ask me about my daughter and myself. I became very agitated and angry.
You see, I'm a medium brown skinned, blue eyed black woman with - at the time 26 years ago - a baby with green eyes, blonde hair and very pale skin. Not only did I miss my bus, I was deeply confused and humiliated!
I told the officers that if my daughter had my coloring, this wouldn't have happened! She disagreed.
It took me a few weeks to come down from that!

People want to do something to stop trafficking, but as a survivor I can tell you that what most people think they know about it is so wrong that it can actually make things worse, like in this case where racial profiling diverted resources to the wrong direction. People insist on a very narrow idea of it and won't listen to what trafficked people have to say about it. It means being willing to hear some painful, hard to hear things.

This woman had her daughter’s birth certificate, and other forms of proof, All they had to do is ask! But they called the police and made a spectacle of them….on top of not believing she was going to a funeral. It was clearly mishandled. They even spotted common manilla envelopes on the people buying/stealing kids and still let it happen. She probably got the only agent that had a brain cell fire up and say this doesn't look right maybe I should check and he apparently sucked at it. Now it'll be worse with the child trafficking bc cops will be like no we saw dude mess up and get in trouble leave it to the fbi. Which will more likely be a fbi agent buying a child then helping.

Maybe you could, as a parent with a child who is on the spectrum, take some responsibility and ring either the airline or the relevant LEOs ahead of time and let them know when you will be flying and offer to provide any supporting documentation they might require for you to travel unimpeded? Or are you so entitled as to think that you shouldn't have to take any additional effort to avoid the measures that are in place to protect vulnerable children? Your child has you to look out for them and ensure they have a smooth travel experience. The children being trafficked only have the staff at the airline looking out for them. Are you really suggesting that this last line of defence should be taken away from them just so that you don't have to bother being a responsible parent?

Back in the 70s, when I was 4 yrs old, my 3 yr old brother and I was removed from my White Russian mom’s care by NYC hospital security and police during an emergency room hospital visit when I had a strept throat. We were under the care of the Administration for Children Service (ACS-what it was called back then) and kept in that hospital for over a month while they dragged on to check if she was really our mom. Fortunately, my bother and I were too young to be severely traumatized by the event because we didn’t know or understand what was going on at the time. Obviously, we don't see the entire interaction. If it was solely based on them having two different skin colors, then that's definitely very concerning. However, it takes more than that to cause alarm for airline employees. Makes you wonder, did something else happen on the plane not reported? So now, because the attendant has been called racist, what happens if she second guesses herself in the future and this incident causes a child to be trafficked? As a parent, this intrusion seemed minimal at best. Again, from the limited clip shown. I personally would have been thankful they are watching out for trafficking. If I had been detained and brought to a room, then that would be different. The more I'm writing, I'm also thinking if she gets a huge settlement from the airline then they may change their protocols to avoid future lawsuits but in doing so make it easier for trafficking to happen.

What makes me concerned now is Southwest Airlines after being sued will say, were not getting involved anymore attempting to catch the handlers. These handlers beat these poor children into submission not to speak to anyone & to look down. They might have thought something was off by the child's behavior.
They thought they were trying to save this child from possible trafficking & yes, they did get it wrong but they honestly thought they were trying to save this child from a horrific fate.
I remember handlers use to work, & probably still do, a famous "world" park.
They would brake the parents hands away from the child's hand by walking through them then another would come & take & grab the child in a tight crowd. Drug the child instantly over their mouth & put them over their shoulder to take them to the restroom to change their clothes. Security would rush the parents to the front of the park quickly & close all other gates except 1 to get out. Security would then tell the parents do not look at the clothes, jackets or even the head of the child, as they could cover them with a small jacket. Focus on the shoes of the child . The parents would stand & watch each child leaving the park. Their child would always be asleep because they were drugged & often asleep & on the shoulder of the handler. Many were caught because of their shoes. They never changed their shoes. If they got out of the park- the child was gone.
So yeah, everyone is trying hard to save them & sometimes they do make mistakes trying to save these poor children. Lets pray they never stop trying.

Could have been trafficking. If they got held for an extended time and missed the flight sure I'd say compensate. Everyone watching sees the color difference and would have that moment if trafficking was your job to watch for it hits the red flag trigger necessary to say hold up. If her kid gets kidnapped this year by another white woman her argument eliminates the option to question the said kidnapper so double edged sword either way.

And some kids that age are just moody brats and often don't want to deal with adults, that's part of growing up but could now be construed as strange behavior? The expert also said "look for a young child under the control of a guardian"... That's literally being a parent. 🙄 "Kids not looking like the adult they're with"... not every child is an exact replica of their parents. I was adopted and didn't look like my parents, but then again we are all white. I think that's the point here and agree that mom and daughter were racially profiled. Such a shame.
