- A historically Black college’s lacrosse team was pulled over on a bus in Georgia for an alleged traffic violation, then searched for drugs without probable cause. New body camera footage now contradicts Liberty County Sheriff William Bowman’s claim that “no personal items on the bus were searched.” Delaware State University’s president has filed a formal complaint to the Department of Justice. Pamella Jenkins, the head coach of the lacrosse team on the bus, speaks out.

These Cops think other people are as dumb about the Law as they are. Just as they threatened these kids with consequences, they should face the consequences for their illegal search. This includes the Sherrif for lying.
I agree it was a racist setup from the word go and typical of the cops in Georgia and elsewhere; a lot of the cops paid to protect citizens belong in jail for criminal acts.
I hope the next phase of US politics is going to have a heavy emphasis on tangible accountability.

This is worse than what I experienced driving through East-Germany checkpoints before the wall came down.
The fact that he turned a routine traffic stop into a drug search is amazing. The fact that he KNEW who were passengers on the bus makes this a purposeful and unlawful search. In the police report the officer LIED about not knowing who was on the bus and not going through their things. Why should we ever believe what they say when they can’t simply tell the truth.
Said the driver was numerous and too talkative and he was engaging the driver in conversation!

@@Lifeofknicole That’s why even though I’m a criminal justice major I refuse to become a cop and I’m leaning on the side of going bankrupt to become a lawyer instead. System is way to broken to fix it, with way too many citizens and bystanders in denial that it’s a problem despite my professors saying how much it’s a problem and they used to work for federal law enforcement agencies. It makes my stomach turn watching the video, knowing everything those officers did wrong and knowing how uncomfortable or scared those girls on the bus were.
The way these girls remained calm throughout the whole situation speaks volumes of their coaches and parents!! I'm so proud of how they handled the situation! It saddens me to see how cops already expected to find something based on the color of their skin. Absolutely disrespectful 😞🙏🏽

Yes, officer, HOW did they come to THAT??? I mean, driving in the wrong lane is a minor stop, a warning to the driver, at best. Possibly a small citation, even. But actually entering the bus, making a blatant, intimidating and thinly veiled threat to the team on the bus, and then searching all of their belongings was totally out of line and inappropriate. Not only did he insinuate that they were carrying drugs, but he made it clear he thought they were SELLING drugs by mentioning 'anything that could be used to WEIGH drugs, or scales'. WTAF?!?! WHY???? Well, we ALL know why........

The police claimed they didn’t go through the students personal items, but the video showed that wasn’t true….I AM SHOCKED!!!! (Note sarcasm). This is why a lot of officers don’t like body cams, it takes away their ability to control ‘the truth’ about what really happened. I wonder if the officers will face any consequences for lying about that, however I’m sure the police will thoroughly investigate themselves & find they did nothing wrong.
And that's why they earn the hate every day, more and more. Even from people like me, who used to be pro-police years ago until my eyes were opened.

I'm surprised that we were actually able to view the bodycam footage. Usually in these situations the bodycams suddenly "malfunction". Smh. All six of the cops involved should be fired. The lying sheriff who could barely read the lies written for him should be given his "walking papers" as well.

Quite frankly there a lot of judges that should not be judges. If I would be they would be given qualified immunity because justice tends to tip towards law enforcement.

This is a clear violation of US v. Rodriguez. A police officer can not extend a traffic stop longer than it is necessary to effectuate the purpose of the traffic stop! If the purpose of the stop was to cite the driver, that's where it should end but, I don't expect those "good ol' boys" to comprehend settled case law.

Even this traffic stop was illegal. Under the Georgia law trucks are no allowed to be in the far left lane, it goes on to say that buses and motorcoaches are exempt.

Maybe, your the type of person who wouldn’t mind officers randomly searching your house. Kids on a bus coming home from a team game. Sounds like a bus full of over achieving young girls. It takes allot of dedication to be on a sports team and study for school. They did not deserve this treatment. This can easily emotionally scar a young individual for life. Now everytime they see a cop they may find themselves having panic attacks for no reason.

This case has all the signs of being historic. Thank goodness for the body camera footage, it's documented the facts. May the lying sheriff be held accountable for the farce he tried to pull off and may this case lead to serious reforms in policing.

Only way to stop this insane ride is everyone must vote in every election especially for local and State seats for a minimum of 10-15 years. But all the things that some women have been through you have to be strong.

I also think we as black women are stereotyped as “strong “ and that usually results in people putting extra burdens on us and we ourselves thinking we have to do everything and take every kind of treatment. Unfortunately we are not seen as individuals, instead of people saying “Ruth is a strong black woman” they will say “black women are strong”. We are the only women who embrace such a masculine trait ( I know we are not speaking physically). No other race of women use “strong” as a characteristic. If they stopped the bus for a traffic violation, why not just write the ticket and keep it moving? There was no reason to search their bags and to just lie about the search is really ridiculous. Nobody should be treated this way.

no I live in Ga and I think it should just be that county... I do not believe my county cops would behave like this and I sure hope I'm not giving them too much credit... Liberty county is south of me and I think this is not unusual.. maybe look at the percentage of traffic stops for speeding, etc.. see if there are tell tale numbers there...maybe more racial profiling there than I would like to admit.... just saying...

Look up the civil rights complaints of every sheriff department across georgia … this isnt isolated it is a systematic problem and Georgia, Arkansas, Mississippi, Florida and Texas are among biggest violators of civil rights in stops and with sheriffs in general

The purpose of the stop was allegedly because the driver, not the team, was driving in the wrong lane for busses.
The fact that the cops didn't issue a citation for that alleged infraction and just let the bus be on its way after, tells us the stop was then turned into a racially profiled event. Period.
The driver was never issued a citation at all.

@@LoboKhan1 Well there's more to the story that of course this channel didn't tell you. The officers were part of a drug task team and had a k9 with them. The k9 alerted on the bus, just as it had earlier in the day when they had pulled over a different bus and did find drugs and drug paraphernalia. The driver was the only person who got out of the bus. He was white. ANNNNNDDDDD.... the bus had tinted windows. They couldn't tell what color the people on the bus were.

Sheriff claim officers didn't know they were coming from HBCU but the officer clearly stated he knew they were from lacrosse.
That’s because the cops interrogated the driver. That was his mistake. He should have handed over his license and kept his mouth shut. Cops didn’t board the bus until after the were told it was out of town athletes. On the body cam video the cops says- it’s a buss full of girl athletes. We can MAYBE find some weed. They were absolutely profiled.

I am not sure of exactly what info they must provide upon request but commercial drivers must log hours, they must know the category of the cargo, etc.
That is why the driver said he would only be driving the bus to Richmond at which time his hours would be up and another driver take the wheel.
The info that he provided should have saved them, not hurt them.

His job is to get the team from points A b and C and back home safely. All while keeping his bus in running order. Just like driving a car with a lot of passengers. When you get pulled over by a cop- give your license and paperwork and keep your mouth shut.

FYI busses carry cargo as well as passengers and as a commercial driver the rules of the road are much different and he must provide more info to include his logs.
