My mother works in central booking, so she sees this same shit and worse on a daily basis. She spent at least 17 of her current 35 working in arrest processing where you quickly find out that many arresting officers will lie and also request that the arrest report be manipulated in order to cover up/justify abuse of the shield or blatant racism and even assault.
The same thing happened to us in NC! I'm going to give the situation and if I over reacted tell me. It was around 2:30 PM and we were pulled over for a dirty tag, she claimed. She asks me for my license and it was an out of state license because we had moved here 2 weeks prior. Then she started asking alot of stupid questions why did we move here? When was I going to get my license changed? Where were we headed and where had we been? Now my attitude has shifted and she got upset! Mind you, we were dressed in all black with 4 flags that said FUNERAL CAR # 1 and the backseat was full of plants plus when we were pulled over about 10 other cars pulled over behind us with flags saying FUNERAL ATTENDANTS. We had just left the cemetery burying out daughter and on our way to the repast. I told her to write the ticket or whatever she was gonna do because we had somewhere to be and she said that wasn't her problem and that we could go when she said we could. The next week I requested a meeting with her & her boss and I let her have it.

Barfield's attorney stated, "The incident has nothing to do with race and everything to do with an officer following routine procedure and doing his job. We are confident that anyone who takes a look at what actually occurred in Marion County will reach the same conclusion.

It has gotten better in terms of having cell phones and more awareness, but there's a huge gap between awareness and seriously reducing this.
