As a proud owner of one, I still love its design! I still stare at it every time I leave. And while design is a very subjective matter, I really think it's one of the best designed cars out there. I can't say the same about the suspension harshness, but hey... it's a price to pay!
I bought the 1.8 petrol, second-hand, a few years ago as a shared car with (then) girlfriend - obviously the car out-lasted the relationship: it's a Honda! Even though it's been a spare car for 18-months, every time I think of selling it, I can't, it's just too good to sell (at 92,000 miles). This engine has the v-tec activate at 2,000 RPM, it's more about fuel economy than high-rev's. There's a trick to driving this engine smoothly; either keep below 2K rev's or power through the 2K mark, else it's jerky. It's not an exciting engine but extremely competent with lots of low-end pull - don't over-stretch it and it feels like a much bigger unit. If buying a manual, it's probably best to to walk away if looks as though the top of the gear leaver is very worn; this indicates a lazy driver resting their hand on the stick every journey, wearing the bushes and making gear-changes difficult over time. Another common fault is the suspension bump-stops slipping inside the spring, making a rubbing sound in damp weather - it doesn't stop the car from being driven but it'll cost roughly £200 (UK) per strut, at a local garage to put right (£50 parts + labour). That said, I've spent waaaay more keeping German cars maintained (£,000's over £00's). Last thing; when changing the rear brake-pads, be aware they need re-setting as they self-adjust tighter, resulting in the pads permanently in contact with the disc's (eventually fully-locked-on) - I've seen this posted on the internet - not something I've experienced!
One of my Uncle's had one of those Civic's and I liked it. His was the diesel version in black and I enjoyed going for a spin in the car with him. Even after all these years, that gen Honda Civic-still looks futuristic and modern.
My 2.2 diesel is at 210.000km, still goes 0-100 km/h in 8.2 seconds. Never broke down, still has original front discs, clutch (it actually has a 3 stage wearing thread and is really strong - people who changed the clutch got owned by a garage :D), original battery and AC never recharged. The 2.2 diesel is full of torque, left dozens of German cars behind eating my black smoke :D That said, the paint and some other components dont live up to Honda’s reputation , it being my 3rd Honda, I can compare it to my 92 Civic and 98 Prelude. That said, I still love it, it cruises fine on the highway even at higher speeds. At 160-170 km/h its still pretty quiet and smooth. It only drinks 5,5l /100km, has a lot of room (got a kid while ownership and went great) and the engine is a lot of fun! Many things the newer Civics dont have.... So wouldnt know what to buy next...

I think like the first Focus the Civic looked great when it first came out but has aged a lot since then. I still think it looks great especially from 09 onwards with the type r grille and body coloured wheel arches and skirts. The very clever rear seats, fun free revving VTEC engines, sublime gearbox and the fact that it is built in Swindon still make it a good purchase. The Focus may be nicer to drive and the Golf may be more refined but they are so dull to look at.
@@TRASHoftheTITANS I was talking about sedans.. Also the Audi Q2 doesn't have one, the Kia Stinger doesn't have one, the BMW 328gt, (most Porsche Panamera's, although I have seen one with it). My Dad works for Honda in Swindon, and they lease these out to employees and Family for 18 months a time, my mum drove it and she loved everything about it except the rear view window, parking those things are terrible and risky when reversing into spaces.

have got a 2007 1.8 sport ishift bought from new, had previous version series 7, in 1.6 auto, love new ones gear box which seems to have been dropped now but suspension on older one was much nicer to drive, Honda should think about putting ishift and independent suspension together and soften the ride slightly, THEN they'd have a winner all round, apart from the silly split rear window !!!

I always left the 8th gen as a no go, after testdriving a Type R and the diesel in the past, I thought sticking to EK forever, even the EP did not convince me, other than the K20 a noisy can. But after my girlfriend shortened my EK I needed a car fast, I bought a Silverstone full option with literally all every option in the book , and it grows on me. It took almost 15 years to get used to the car, and that is why Honda is great and like fine wine they get better with age (though not all models/wine). PS everything works on this 10 year old car!
WhiteSlift Yea your right, i have the 2.2 diesel 2007 and the clutch has been slipping for the whole time ive owned it. Although with that in mind, i would still have another civic,
Hayden Wilde My dad has the 2.2 and his clutch was replaced on Honda's cost because he had less than 60,000 miles on his. But I bought the 1.8 petrol because I could only afford a higher mileage, and the clutch replacement is expensive.
2.2 diesel is stellar engine in this car and sound isolation is much better thant you would think. Onve I was driven by this car at 185-190 km/h and all I could hear was wind noise, not engine, not suspension. I never thought a little car could make you feel so safe at that speed. I used to drive in My 97 Prelude at 170 km/h and it way was louder and not that relaxing (with shitty tires though). This car is interesting and as usually for Honda - reliable.
Does anyone have problems with reversing? I'm so close to buying one, but that rear spoiler across the back window is putting me off a little. I don't want to reverse into something because I can't see lol
Well this was something which made me nervous but actually there is absolutely no trouble in that. Just about something you need to get used to, but - what is interesting, you feel convenient with it after a few hours of ride. Absolutely stunning car, I love it each day I drive it.
I think the best looking civics ever were either the coupe's or sedans from 96-00 .. The EJ6 version of civic's... I used to own a 99 non vtec civic sedan.. D16Y7 engine in my 99 civic DX... the EX version 96-00 had the D16Y8 with V-tec... anyways though I was able to put a really small turbo on my D16Y7 engine along with headers/full exhaust and intake and brought the car from stock 106hp to 150hp... It was a dream to drive and I wish I still had it. It was actually decently fast... sure I only got it up to 150hp but that was with 100% stock internals and the car only weighed 2,000 lbs soaking wet. Long live the sexiest civics of all time the EJ6 civics. If I could have any car to be my daily driver right now it would be a 1999 civic type R (182 hp stock)
I'm currently looking to get my first car, I've found the 1.8L petrol version from 2006/7, what do you think? Is it something you'd recommend? Is it expensive to maintain? Is maintenance something that's needed often? And what about the driving and parking experience?

I have the same car 1.4i dsi 2008 in pearl blue fuel economy is awesome on long run I got 72 miles to the gallon around town 48 miles to the gallon my first Honda 2nd hand definitely buy another.
Bought this one, a 2.2 diesel 2007 executive.. Pure awesomeness!!
Yeah, me too. The only drawback with it is the lack of rear windscreen wash/wipe. Other than that I adore my Civic.
Not many cars have a rear wiper...
@@JoeyLovesTrains That simply isn't true. I can't think of another hatchback that doesn't have one
@@TRASHoftheTITANS I was talking about sedans.. Also the Audi Q2 doesn't have one, the Kia Stinger doesn't have one, the BMW 328gt, (most Porsche Panamera's, although I have seen one with it).
I gotta say, I wish rear wipers were a requirement, bc sitting in my sedan when it's raining out, you can barely see what's behind you.
I used to hate the civic but now I understand why people liked it and its rather cool. Looks like a space shuttle
Une voiture absolument génial ! je ne suis pas pressé de m'en séparer !
Enjoying this car in 2022, bought it in 2018 still working fine!
The imperial march totally got me
song name 3:38 ,DV imperial march
My mom just bought one , 14 yrs old & still drives & look like a modern car
This is the car you see in American comics of the 1950's about life in AD 2000!!!
I bought this car a few months ago. Its 2.2 ctdi. Best decision I have ever made :D
I have this Civic, and I love it. And, I've installed a lot of sound isolation.
i got the 2.2 ICTDI of this car, chipped it to 170BHP, it goes like a rocket! i really love this car!
I miss top gear when they used to review cars!
I have still Civic on owner 2 years. I love my civic, keeping Civic the good care and full service also driving amazing. One worse thing out was gas pedal is tough and foot off pedal goes suddely kicks braking itself.
Just got a 2011 S Type. Love these cars.
My Dad works for Honda in Swindon, and they lease these out to employees and Family for 18 months a time, my mum drove it and she loved everything about it except the rear view window, parking those things are terrible and risky when reversing into spaces.
It's a must to get the one with parking sensors. Such a great improvement. But sometimes even with them, most Honda Civics will have their rear bumper edge "polished" with parking mistakes.
Best looking Civic ever special in vivid blue.
ive got this car as my first car and had my first ride with it actually today. and in my opinion ist a really good Looking, and good driving car. Better than any Golf oder BMW
on long trips 2.2 diesel is the best (but i like more 1.8 because of the vtec and no turbo shit lag and DPF)
To anybody thinking of getting one, get the 2.2 diesel it combines great performance ith good fuel economy. They're brilliant cars!
Still my most favourite car design ever. When I first saw it I thought it was a new 2023 electric car. I was mindblown when I found out this was made in 2006.
I love my civic
The music is beautiful
just bought my 1.8 Type S few months back! Loving it tbh
Still got it mate? I'm looking at one for my first car, still love it?
I got a second hand one of these recently (damn near perfect condition too..so w00t!). Only got the 1.4 basic model, but it's an awesome car. Great features, good fuel economy, looks awesome....and yes the red button is made of pure win.
RIP TOP GEAR!
"The backend looks like something from out of space, and like I said, the doorhandles look like the rockets that will take you there"
That's gotta be one of Mr May's greatest lines ever.
my favourite show reviewing my favourite car with my favourite band (DFA) playing in the back for a moment? i feel like this was something that was waiting for me to discover
I have owned loads of cars in my time including VW, Audi, Mini Cooper, Mercedes M class and this Honda Civic 1.8 Vtec Type S GT is the most reliable car I have ever owned even though it is 14yrs old now! I bought it with 60,000 mls as a shopping car and I have covered over 30,000 mls and it has only ever needed tyres, servicing, brake pads etc. Honda's are fantastic cars.
15 años con un Type S 1.8 y lo volvería a comprar. No ha dado ningún problema.
Love that they filmed some bits in futurascope #represent
I love my honda
David Thompson buying 1 2morrow cant wait
I bought my this week and it should be ready to pick up tomorrow... I'm excited :D
have got a 2007 1.8 sport ishift bought from new, had previous version series 7, in 1.6 auto, love new ones gear box which seems to have been dropped now but suspension on older one was much nicer to drive, Honda should think about putting ishift and independent suspension together and soften the ride slightly, THEN they'd have a winner all round, apart from the silly split rear window !!!
It still looks great even in 2022. Maybe not modern but definitely not outdated
The best one of the 10 generations.
This thing is absolutely fantastic.
iv had 1 gen 7 and 2 gen 8 love them #hondalife
I bought one 2.2cdti fantastic, would have another
The top gear guys take the piss out of what we average folks can afford those 3 are all millionaires
I've got the type R model & it feels exciting & special every time i drive it. Ep3 owners hate on it but it looks tons nicer inside & out in my opinion & is a much better daily
2006 Honda Civic
Honda POWER OF DREAM ❤️❤️❤️
After 12 year still my car, and I love it. For sure my next car will be a Honda. 😬
i buy new honda 2.2 I-CTDI in : 20/12/2006 . Till now . Until today .07 / 09/2020 no one problem. changed 3 discs and 6 front brake pads. 2 discs and 4 rear brake pads, and 3 batteries. 185,045 km. Ps. from 10 years, I live in the mountains at 1600 meters above sea level , to date. From Zinal to Sion 1100 meters of altitude difference 3 times a week. The best good car ever. Honda Civic disel . Only 1 defect. braking is a little long.
@@zerozerouno0 Damn, how's the dual mass fly wheel and the clutch? The flywheels wear off easily i've heard, mine's busted abit.
@@NakataLTU everything fill good . But : pity that: (the fault of the salt that they put against the frost as I live in the mountains at 1600 meters high) has corroded at the level of the shock absorbers and brake calipers, which I had to change 2 months ago as the brake was blocked :P
@@zerozerouno0 same man, i live in northern europe, lots of salt here, first winter with it, why don't you just spray it out with anti corrosion chemicals?
@@NakataLTU troppo tardi :(
I have the same car it's very reliable and so fast. Made with good quality parts I'm 21 btw 😂 but insurance so cheap.
approximately how much is insurance ?
750 CHF at year .in Switzerland
But when vtec kicks in in yo it’s amazing
Honda...simply the best.
+1 for the boards of canada
It's quite common for the shock absorbers to go on these (mine has). It's also hard on the suspension. Other than that, it's a solid car.
Yeh I had to replace one in the first year, caught the driver side wheel on a drain cover sticking up out of ground during road works on a roundabout.
2006 Honda civic
I have the 1.8 ivtec edition , I only changed once the suspensions , just the basic service and nothing else !! Completed 270000 Km and going !!
I bought the 1.4 type s 3dr best 1st car imo👍🏼
I always left the 8th gen as a no go, after testdriving a Type R and the diesel in the past, I thought sticking to EK forever, even the EP did not convince me, other than the K20 a noisy can. But after my girlfriend shortened my EK I needed a car fast, I bought a Silverstone full option with literally all every option in the book , and it grows on me. It took almost 15 years to get used to the car, and that is why Honda is great and like fine wine they get better with age (though not all models/wine). PS everything works on this 10 year old car!
no one gives a fuck tbh
i kept on hearing JOE!JOE!JOE!JOE!
2:34. He was right, my 2006 civic has 210,000 miles on it and just doesn't give up
Shaun Thomas thats a lot of miles... keep driving it !
Same here not many people drive this car in my area, and the amazing thing is that its almost as practical as my old peugeot estate.
Yeah, if you're thinking of buying one of these, get the 2.2 diesel. A magnificent engine and car
I have it :) it's perfect car!
The Diesel has a faulty clutch. Expect 1,000 Euros of repair costs each time the clutch has to be replaced.
WhiteSlift Yea your right, i have the 2.2 diesel 2007 and the clutch has been slipping for the whole time ive owned it. Although with that in mind, i would still have another civic,
Hayden Wilde
My dad has the 2.2 and his clutch was replaced on Honda's cost because he had less than 60,000 miles on his. But I bought the 1.8 petrol because I could only afford a higher mileage, and the clutch replacement is expensive.
Well a year on guys, and my dad's diesel is still going strong. And I am now the owner of the Type R model. What a driveway! Smashing cars! :)
I have this spaceship.
XD
Love it.
Still looking good in 2022!
No problem with the spoiler, in fact it is just at the right height for night time driving, cutting out most of the glare of the headlights behind.
This is something that I also noticed and all the reviewers never whisper a word about it. Petty little creatures
If you've ever owned a saloon then I imagine the civic is easier than a saloon to park.
Best car on a planet. Any planet.
What building is that shown with the moving piece @ 0:47?
Bought one in May 2021 has 144k on the clock. Its amazing and drives amazing! You can pick them up cheap nowadays.
I'm currently looking to get my first car, I've found the 1.8L petrol version from 2006/7, what do you think? Is it something you'd recommend? Is it expensive to maintain? Is maintenance something that's needed often? And what about the driving and parking experience?
Got a 2006 one with 73k one it. 1.8 vtech with Ishift love it
Anyone know where this is filmed? That abstract architecture park is pretty cool.
Hi, I'm also searching for this... Have you found the location?
Does anyone here know where to find the mix of the Imperial March that starts at 3:40?
"Romantic Rights" by Death from Above 1979 around the middle. Such a recognizable song...
0:48. Please give me title of this song/theme.
aaaa how I miss these Hammond may clarkson days
