I remember seeing these back in 2007 and I always thought to myself: this is my dream car ! One day. Now I am 28 and I've owed my 2007 Civiv ivtech 1.8 for 2 years now and it's amazing !!
I remember when I first saw this car in the city as a kid, I was shocked that something so beautiful could exist. And here I am now, 23 years old and I've purchased my first car. To be more precise a dream car.
Great car! My father bought one in 2006, a 1.8 petrol with manual gearbox. He sold it to me 5 years ago. It has almost 180.000km (approx. 111.000 miles) now and had no single repair since the beginning, not even once. Perfect reliable car. I want to keep it and see how much longer it holds...200.000km, maybe 300.000km...? Who knows?
How was the fuel economy? my father has the fn2 the 2.0 liter and it has pretty good feul economy for a 200 horsepower car, if you drive bellow 5000 rpm
This vid made me buy this car! The best choice I’ve e ever made on car equally as good as Mercedes!! Feels the same. This car is 15 years old and it’s quality !!!!!!! Shocked how good this little car is!! Love it to bits! Buy it❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The 2.2 cdti has so much torque you think something is going to break, it is that good. Ignore the fact that it has just 140bhp and think about the way it moves effortlessly compared to the petrol equivalent. To be honest I don't mind which as I'd be quite happy with either engine. My friend has a 2.2 mondeo tdci with similar performance figures and I appreciate what a difference having that little extra engine capacity can do to the torque figures. The civic is a damn fine car.
I bought a used 2010 1.4 automatic sport edition of this car about a month ago. I used to have a 1993 Toyota Carina 1.6 sedan so it was a big leap and it took some time getting used to my new car. This car is definitely growing on me, it's got a quite fresh engine, Honda upped the 1.4 petrol up to 100 HP in the later models, this combined with a relatively low weight makes it quite "zippy". The 6 speed automatic gearbox suits the engine well, it keeps it within an optimal rev range and it never feels lacking in power really. The suspension is quite firm and isn't very comfortable on bumpy roads, but the steering is very sharp and it feels very stable even when taking sharp turns at relatively high speed. I don't like how the head unit is integrated into the dashboard, but this is common in pretty much all newer cars. I don't like it because I like to upgrade the stereo to get higher sound quality, the factory system is quite good, so it's no biggie. The rear visibility could be better, but the parking sensors somewhat compensates for this when backing into a parking spot. The automatic transmission is a bit illogical sometimes, but most of the time it adapts well to my driving pattern. The "manual" mode is useful when I want to dictate gear changes, for example for more "sporty" driving. I adored my old Carina, but it was a very old car, and the rust was beginning to get the upper hand. It was also quite primitive, didn't even have ABS, so i felt it was time to retire it when it didn't pass through the latest MOT test. I've only had my Honda Civic for about a month, but it's proving to be a worthy successor for my trusty old Carina. Now I just need to figure out how to get a proper stereo installed and it'll be golden. :P
Thats the same thing my friend from LA said when he saw our Honda picking him up at the airport, he even said he would buy a Honda if the american one looked as good.
2019 It really was a Fantastic Design.. I've had 2 but the rest of the car industry didn't bother to move forward with the concept so we get shit like the Focus/Mondeo/Fiesta/Every Vauxhall.
Bought one last year, and it's a pleasure to drive with. Mine is a 1.8 litre petrol, from late 2008, executive, EU, at 61,000 km. Wheel arches, are indeed a bit annoying, since they tend to stick out sometimes, thus I think I might need to replace the plastic 'bolts' that hold them in place. Except for that, panoramic roof is useful on long runs and mostly for the ones in the back. It can become a bit annoying if you forget to close it during the hot season. Apart from that, the suspension seems forgiving for the ones in the front. Some said it feels far better in the back (short gal) than on some VAG cars, but I do know that the Civic is infamous for the stiff suspension. It might have to do with the fact that i use R16 wheels, instead of the R17 which most reviewers make their reviews on. On a side-note, R16 wheels do increase the overall comfort, so you might want to consider that. I currently use 205/55 R16 tires (both winter - Michelin and summer - Continental) and they seem to handle pretty well small bumps in the road. Over tram tracks however you do hear the suspension rocking a bit... and on high speeds it could do with a bit better sound insulation, but I think you can play some music to get rid of that. Maintenance wise... pretty cheap. In my country I got the yearly one with ~ 125$ /108€ / 94 £ (filters included, full oil change). Some recommend 0w20 oil, but previously the car ran with 5w30, so I use the 5w30. Currently I passed the 75,000 km mark, and I didn't noticed any oil drop on the stick. High mileage Civics, usually need about 1 litre of oil to be added for every 10-15k km, so watch out for that or expect that to happen, particullary if the prev. owner didn't had such a good care of the car. Anyway, the car is great and even in 2018 (soon), it twists heads around of how good it looks.
Dan Mihalea mine 1.8 from 2011 consumed 0.1-0.15 liters of motor oil every 1000 km when i bought the car with 92,000 km and the oil consumption is exactly the same now 3 years later with 183,000 km. I use motul 0w30 or 5w30.
Dan Mihalea btw I also dont kmow what to buy when i sell mine. Maybe the new 1.5 turbo civic. But the thing is that my fk2 is just so good and nice (ionized bronze), practical and good to drive that sometimes I would keep it for ever. I mean I tried a lot of cars in the same class, but none of them was sool and practical and nice to drive. Only thing i dont like is the high road noise level.
Szabo Balazs hello neighbour :) the brand new generation on civic lacks on of the most practical things ever, that I like on my 2008 civic: the Magic Seats. Just brilliant. The new hatchbacks look a bit disappointing with all the plastic on the rear of the car... The sedan is the more good looking, but again, the magic seats system is gone.
Dan Mihalea I actually have a Civic of the gen before years, but after the facelift. It's a 5-door with the 1.6L petrol. It has done over 200.000km now and hasn't let me down ever! (Apart from the battery once when I left the interior light on for a week, oops) ;) It does consume quite some oil though, but as long as it doesn't increase I'm fine with that.
They should've given the entry level the 1.5l L15A7 instead of the 1.4l, which feel pretty underpowered in a car this big. Also what he says at 3:00, although the build quality is good, it's not quite VW or BMW good. It's still more on par with Ford. Also the tailgate leaks like a sieve after a few years. Still, amazing cars and worth getting because you get those amazing looks with Honda reliability
+Tyler Walter The styling was ''''toned down'''' for the US market as they aimed to sell Civics to older customers over there. Also I don't think the hatchback was available in the US, just the sedan.
Fantastic car. My only issue with it is that on our roads (central finland) the tyre noise gets pretty harsh. Our roads are destroyed every winter by stud tyres. 'Course I could fit smaller and narrower wheels, but the 17" alloys make it look fantastic and 225/45 tyres make the steering so sharp! Guess I'll have to add some noiseproofing during the summer, the car is definitely worth it.
I've had my 2.2 CDTI for a couple of years now. To be honest, I could have done with a smaller-engined petrol car. This isn't really suitable for short commutes - I'm only getting 38-44 mpg and I'm not booting it. The ride is awful - you can feel every tiny bump in the road. The car is way too low as well - I keep catching high kerbs in parking spaces with the front bumper, which keeps pushing it even lower which means it catches more often etc. I'm going to have to take the bumper off when the weather improves and bend the mounts back up. On the plus side, it handles well, it drives lovely - grips the road superbly and the 2.2D lump is pretty sporty and super-torquey. The boot is enormous too. I don't want to tempt fate here but it's also never let me down - not even once. Mine is now just over ten years old and it's just sailed through its annual inspection with no advisories. Still..... I'm getting older now and I could do with something that didn't shake the shit out of me every time I drive over a small pothole.
I bought a 1.8 petrol. I did consider the 2.2 diesel but rejected it as there's talk the exhaust manifolds crack and the clutch can't really handle all that torque. Far less reported problems on the 1.8. My commute is a 10 mile or so mixed A and B road route, I get 39 to 41 mpg most of the time... Mine rides on 16" rims, I use Goodyear tyres and it's acceptable unless it's around town. The car is stupidly low yes, it's got worse ground clearance than my lowered V6 Alfa Romeo which is frankly stupid. Overall a likeable car, I bought mine so I could garage and pamper my other car with the Civic to be used and abused...
Ive got the diesel. It pulls like a train and super reliable. One thing ill say is 55mpg is in fairy land. I do 70% of my travel via motorway and my average is between 45mpg and 49mpg driving it sensible. I did get it up to 53mpg but the way I had to drive it wasnt suitable for any road
Even in year 2022 THI IS STILL A DECENT Car yo buy I bough civic 2010 2.2 diesel and I do not see big diffrent from other cars that jusy coming in 2022 may be the led lights thats all
Hi I have bought this Honda Civic 2.2 diesel 2007 it’s very ecomimical on fuel but down side is the lock to lock meaning left to right when you want to park in a tight space
I just buy the 1.8 ivtec manual 6 speed. ES version with panoramic roof. Very cheap in uk. But have 136000 miles, it's too much but the honda engines is good.
George George 136,000 miles is nothing for a Civic, or any modern (well maintained) car. Yes Diesel engines usually last longer but Vtec engines have always been bombproof. As long as its been maintained, enjoy the next 100,000 miles 👍
I bought one with 59,000 km on the dash last year (2016) in October, and took it this year (2017) for the yearly general inspection. They've asked me why have I come to them, did the car showed me the service key on the dash? Because the car is in damned good shape. A friend of mine bought a car in 2010 (same 2008 manufacture year) and now he's on a whooping 500,000 km + without any technical faults. Just followed the service manual for parts that needed replacement, but even those parts were in good shape
I currently own a 2008 civic ex diesel I love it yes harsh suspension and really bad rear view but great on fuel and a great drive next year in thinking of getting a newer version maybe the 1.6 diesel
- if it has high mileage, expect it to consume 1 litre of oil every 10 to 15,000 km. - you need to run a full diag. on the car beforehand. - test the folding mirrors: 1. Fold the mirrors then unfold them 2. Activate the mirrors heating, and get it running for like... 5 minutes 3. Fold-unfold the mirrors again. They should both fold at the same time and complete. If they don't fold (or in step 1) then the issue is with a electronic component which can be changed at home. There is a clip on how to do it and it will cost you far less than to change the whole mirror. - the paint... if you have some tool to test its thickness.... on the long run, I found that it gets scratched very easily, particularly with inexperienced guys at the washing station... they tend to use brushes which ruin the top transparent layer. Also... it's not good to go with it on the automatic car wash that uses brushes... paint on the car can be a fragile thing. These can be solved by polishing. - park sensors is a MUST. If you see scratches on the edge of the rear bumper then is a usual stuff... all civic drivers have this issue. The back is rounded so it's a bit hard to see the car's corners, that's why it is ideally if you can get one with (at least) park sensors. You might get bothered by the rear spoiler that separates the rear window. I find it useful at night when there is a car in your back with Xenon headlights, if it's right in the back, the rear spoiler will prevent the headlights of the car behind you to blind the crap outta you. Mostly complain about this, but I find it brilliant. Except for that, I think there are the usual stuff that you need to watch out for.
I hawe a 2015 touring Honda Civic and no bmw or something else compare to it. And the materials the comfort the fuel eficency and the services are superb.
+Kyle Grice don't go for 1.4. it's too weak for the car of this weight. 1.8 is the only reasonable choice for the petrol. 1.6 has even bigger consumption for some reason.
+Christian Plummer just curious if u bought one yet? or went with some other?I'm in a same boat as u and its now 2016. I'm so tempted but first time insurance in London on Civic is a bummer, even though I'm far from 17 or 21year old!
The only issue I have with the review is the notion that the older Civics weren't for young people or as precise or sharp - the VTi's and SI's were immensely more raw and lively than the FN, and had amazing multi link rear suspension that was frankly unbeatable - there's a reason EG's and EK's are very popular track cars. In comparison, the FN has downright boring torsion bar rear suspension, weights more than 1.2 tonnes and doesn't have a engine that screams its head off.
This was likely a press car, so Honda would have literally thrown every single optional extra into it to show them all off to reviewers. Your Type R would have had the option of voice control and SatNav, but it wouldn't have come as standard.
Why didn't they sell that in the states I would've bought the shit outta that! Instead we got this....www.cstatic-images.com/stock/1170x1170/66/img509191224-1443473308666.jpg wth it got so much better tech, voice control, and MAGIC SEATS too?!
This car must be too advance for my time, cuz this thing is UGLY!! LOL!! Love the features though, they are pretty cool and awesome review! Really watched it to see the panoramic roof.

Civic name connotations? First thing I think of are high-revving engines squeezing 100hp per litre and type-r versions, not pensioner cars. :)
Yeah true mines the same 44 to 50 mpg on the 2.2 miles
Even in year 2022 THI IS STILL A DECENT Car yo buy I bough civic 2010 2.2 diesel and I do not see big diffrent from other cars that jusy coming in 2022 may be the led lights thats all
Just got one. 2006 ex. It's amazing
My 3,5 years old Peugeot car mats fell apart compared to the hondas car mat which is 15 years old looks news. Quality ticks in Honda as well as design
Hi I have bought this Honda Civic 2.2 diesel 2007 it’s very ecomimical on fuel but down side is the lock to lock meaning left to right when you want to park in a tight space
Tell me about it ! The turning circle is huge !
I just buy the 1.8 ivtec manual 6 speed. ES version with panoramic roof. Very cheap in uk. But have 136000 miles, it's too much but the honda engines is good.
that is too much. How much did u pay for it?
1200
George George 136,000 miles is nothing for a Civic, or any modern (well maintained) car. Yes Diesel engines usually last longer but Vtec engines have always been bombproof. As long as its been maintained, enjoy the next 100,000 miles 👍
hi thank you for reply. its really good engine and economic
Unfortunately this came after Top Gear review, which made no sense..however, good luck in 2022 when serious reviews of the OLD top gear starts.
I've never seen this car before, I don't think it ever made to Canada.
they made it just for the european market... i own one ^^
@@Knasius_Maximus
Can you make it look like the face lifted when you take off the front logo?
@@UltimatumDemon you have to take the whole thing, so you cant, i dont own it anymore, because i needed a 4x4 car, but its a great car! :)
your review is most entertaining and very informative....or should I say "Info-taining"! thumbs up!
4:57 is this a joke?
I currently own a 2008 civic ex diesel I love it yes harsh suspension and really bad rear view but great on fuel and a great drive next year in thinking of getting a newer version maybe the 1.6 diesel
I'm goin garage to look at civic type s 1.8 2007 at £2800Always wanted one
What should I look out for?Getting rid off my BMW too costly!
- if it has high mileage, expect it to consume 1 litre of oil every 10 to 15,000 km.
- you need to run a full diag. on the car beforehand.
- test the folding mirrors:
1. Fold the mirrors then unfold them
2. Activate the mirrors heating, and get it running for like... 5 minutes
Still rocking my Mk7 Civic!
Not in canada? 😭
Is there any models suitable for a first car(small engine) ? I'm think about getting one for in 2016, most likely an 06 version to be cheaper
i think the lowest engine size is a 1.4 litre petrol
+Kyle Grice don't go for 1.4. it's too weak for the car of this weight. 1.8 is the only reasonable choice for the petrol. 1.6 has even bigger consumption for some reason.
+Christian Plummer I had both(now only have 1.4), 1.4 DSI and 1.8 VTEC have almost the same fuel consumption... Go for 1.8 and don't look behind
+Christian Plummer just curious if u bought one yet? or went with some other?I'm in a same boat as u and its now 2016. I'm so tempted but first time insurance in London on Civic is a bummer, even though I'm far from 17 or 21year old!
I have a 07 civic and it never gave me any trouble. I have it 7 years and I don't want to part with it.
This civic RX55AHZ seems to be untaxed from 2008, anyone know why? has it been in a crash?
Likely destroyed as it's probably a pre-production model. If not then might have been exported seeing it's left hand drive.
How do you do a Honda review and not mention VTEC once?
2:18 As a persone from a left hand drive country, this made me extremely anxious
Hopefully I can deposit a 2009 black EX tomorrow morning! I cant wait to play with the glassroof open and shut :-)
planning of buying one tomorrow let you know got a honda civic vtech se at the moment
brought 1 best honda civic ive drove

@@TheDoctorOfWho dont hate
is that the sport version?
Looks like the EX
This car has so much technical in 2005
The only issue I have with the review is the notion that the older Civics weren't for young people or as precise or sharp - the VTi's and SI's were immensely more raw and lively than the FN, and had amazing multi link rear suspension that was frankly unbeatable - there's a reason EG's and EK's are very popular track cars. In comparison, the FN has downright boring torsion bar rear suspension, weights more than 1.2 tonnes and doesn't have a engine that screams its head off.
I was going to sell my 1.8 petrol but I can't think of any natural aspirated car of this cc which is quicker
The one quicker is the honda integra
I've owned this car for 8 years now, longest I've ever owned a car, got the 2.2 Diesel. Not sure what I'm getting next.
+Jogo Lock And it's still nice looking car
+Jogo Lock Sadly my 1.4l sucks :
Mine too, gutless but I've been spoiled by 2.0 turbo diesels for the 6-7 yrs and 2.0 turbo petrols before that
haha agreed
Is anyone actually getting 55mpg. I barely get 47 48
5:10 xD
you surprised me at 5:10 :D
I guess that fucking hurt lol
that british humor though
WTF.... I have got he Type R GT and I still don't get the sat nav and that Honda Siri?
This was likely a press car, so Honda would have literally thrown every single optional extra into it to show them all off to reviewers. Your Type R would have had the option of voice control and SatNav, but it wouldn't have come as standard.
In England it is known as a Honder Civic
left hand drive????
This is in the UK... most of Europe should have the left hand drive model
I just brought a 2.2 diesel one
How is the service?
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️good man
Everything you say I agreed
5:10
Great car , Honda is Honda .....great engine .
5:06 bruh thats gotta hurt
I’ll buy one before august 12th 2036 the heat death of the universe
Should have stuck with old recipe now lol
yurdısındaki versiyona bak bi de bize iteklediklerine bak :(
Why didn't they sell that in the states I would've bought the shit outta that! Instead we got this....www.cstatic-images.com/stock/1170x1170/66/img509191224-1443473308666.jpg
wth it got so much better tech, voice control, and MAGIC SEATS too?!
So old but still cool car
The car looks pretty fragile, and it doesn't have a good design but still it ain't so bad.
Bloody clutch squeaks
use some greasse
David Thompson clutch master cylinder is gone there known for it. And the master cylinder is positioned above the clutch peddle
This car must be too advance for my time, cuz this thing is UGLY!! LOL!! Love the features though, they are pretty cool and awesome review! Really watched it to see the panoramic roof.
I too didn't like it, but now bought a black one which in person looks really good actually
... The Day Of The Mullet.....
I thought it was game over at 2:17
I turned off when I heard that civic and 1er is in golf class...
xilix there must be a misunderstanding. i'm not your dad.
