Did you notice the cigar? During the transition from Che's 2nd verse to Guy's, Che flicks his cigar at Guy who deflects it as he is deflecting Che's bar: "Don't try to boast about your banknotes with Guido". It lands on the barrel of gunpowder in the background and lights it, causing the explosion on the last bar.
They literally build effigies and stand outside shops and say “penny for the guy” to raise money before burning them which I believe relates to people who tried to raise money for his defence when he was being tortured and forced to admit to the crime.
"All the children say, we will be like Che," also because they did indeed pledge to him. Cuban children would start every morning with: "Pioneers for Communism, We will be like Che!" And the line is "Penny for the guy" on bonfire night.

As a side note, the beard that Peter is rocking as Guy Fawkes is real. He let his beard grow out before this battle and they shaved it into shape. And Guido is refering to the fact that when Guy Fawkes had so sign his name after being tortured, it looked like Guido, because he was, as he sang, tortured until he could hardly sign his name.
English is not my native language and I sometimes struggle to understand the references in ERBs (the bay of pigs Latin I’d never understood!) so thank you for making these videos, I always learn so much!
in the UK it used to be that kids would be on the streets on Bonfire Night with an effigy of Guy Fawkes to some degree, and go around houses and ask people "Penny for the Guy", a way to make some money to buy fireworks, where you would then burn the Guy Fawkes on the bonfire afterwards
Fun Fact: The word "Gringo" is etymologically similar to the word "Barbarian" in that it's meaning comes from a word or phrase meaning, basically "person who doesn't speak X language" with "gringo" referring to Spanish, while "Barbarian" is either Greek or Latin, depending on who you ask.
This and jokerwise versus Penny are my two favorite erbs just because of how well done all of it is. Also you didn't really acknowledge it but that whole flow that nice peter does for the "face it Ernesto" bar is incredible
I looked up Guy Fawkes Day (5 November) and I saw this quote: "Penny for a Guy" which is a play of Guy Fawkes' name. So when Che says "Penny for the scapegoat", he also references the saying "penny for a guy" as well.
The reason for 2 fingers being more common in UK is believed to be due to archers in medieval times. Archers would have those fingers removed as a punishment so they couldn't use a bow. So it was them pretty much showing of they still have them as an F.U. to the people in charge.
You're thinking of "Penny for the Guy," in Britain we used to have the tradition of wheeling a scarecrow dressed as Guy around town in a wheelbarrow asking for pennies. Then we'd burn the effigy for fun on bonfires, which are usually associated with fireworks, cos...y'know. Gunpowder. We still have the fireworks and bonfires, but we don't do the whole...begging for pennies thing, as far as I'm aware Also, if you think a man killing himself before his execution stops them from hanging him, drawing him and quartering him, emasculating him and sending his parts to the four corners of the country, you're dead wrong, bud. They went ahead with it anyway, to make an example of him. (Also please react to Calliope Mori)
Guy's hand gesture during the "I don't give two Guy Fawkes" line from what I heard had 4 meanings 1. 2 fingers raised, 2 Guy Fawkes 2. The British flip-off like you mentioned 3. 2 fingers raised make a V which is a subtle nod to V for Vendetta 4. Might be a stretch but, the way Guy raised them is similar to the clock hands pointing at 11:05, referring to the date which Gunpowder Plot took place

"You muddled your economy like mint in a mojito" "Guevara served as Finance Minister and President of the National Bank of Cuba. His programs were unsuccessful, and lead to a rapid drop in productivity and a rapid rise in absenteeism. A mojito is a type of cocktail from Cuba. It's required to lightly muddle the mint, but doing it too much would ruin it, just as Guevara's attempts to create a purely communist society were highly negative. Mint also meant coinage factory, continuing Guevara's reference to money." I really enjoy this line
I thaught I was sick of watching reactions to ERB's but then I discovered Knox, the relaxed tempo with which you go through these is refershing. Most people smel a hype and jump on it, you keep enjoying it (I think) by going at it week by week. Which I love! That's why I've been sucked in and eagerly waiting each week for the past 3 (?) months. The only one I skipped was Thanos vs Eisenhower(because it's less of a favorite for me), but because of your remark in this video I will watch it after typing this comment. All these "blank" reacts to videos are suspect, but I like how you actually show an example that you are in fact a rapper at the start of the video. Smooth flow bro.
"Please to remember the fifth of November, gunpowder treason and plot. I see no reason why gunpowder treason should ever be forgot." Keep up the good work, loving the channel.
I’ve seen some really good breakdowns of this battle, but this was next level. This was the best audio, visual, historical, and pop culture, bar catching I’ve seen.
"penny for the Guy" is a phrase well-known in Britain. It doesn't carry any meaning anymore but back in the day the effigy of Guy Fawkes would be paraded around town and children would ask for locals to pay "a penny for the Guy" as payment for them having made the effigy. This request often came with a veiled threat that more would be stolen if you didn't pay the penny
You're approximately half right - on Nov 4, children would wheel around the effigy of Guy Fawkes that would later be burned on the bonfire, shouting "Penny for the Guy!" in order to raise money for fireworks.
This is the first one of your videos that I have watched, and honestly I just really enjoy how much you actually delve into the background of everything historically.
Good video as always, love watching these ERB ones! Regarding the video quality dip, I try to always just keep it manually set to "1080p" (or whatever) in that little cog wheel, rather than "Auto" because sometimes it just messes up, especially when you jump around in the timeline a lot.
"Muddled your economy like mint in a mojito" As mentioned before, Che was on a banknote, banknote is money like mint and mojito is a drink that originated in Cuba. GENIUS
Enjoyed this video! Also, second Che verse - “more like ‘V’ for ‘very bad hat’.” Possible double there? In his first verse, he references his own “fresh Kangol,” and then in his second verse, he disses Fawkes’s hat. As in, “Even my hat is better than yours.” Maybe this is one of the obvious ones you alluded to, and I’m just being that annoying fan pointing it out.
Thank you, as always, for the history lesson and the good time. This remains one of my favorite raps of ERB; the tempo alone is killer but then you add in how cleverly the lines are actually written.
Albert Einstein vs Stephen Hawking! Also: would you set up a playlist of your ERB reactions so we can more easily find what one's you've done already? Thanks!

I came back to this video since it's your most recent ERB reaction, just to mention how awesome Vlad the Impaler vs. Dracula is
Damn... I just got a history lesson (never heard of either of these guys), bars and a killer breakdown. Trifecta of awesomeness from @knoxhill.
You've become an absolute rap-reaction-legend (what a word) in my book, thank you for being you :)
Disclaimer; I'm not an english native, sorry for any mistakes made
Disclaimer2; This is a really long comment so I doubt you or anyone ever reads it but if you are the person reading this right now;
You are beautifull, keep being you and life will smile upon you
All these "blank" reacts to videos are suspect, but I like how you actually show an example that you are in fact a rapper at the start of the video. Smooth flow bro.
The bar "He's Cuba commander u are more the destro" is a reference to G. I. Joe
Knox you haven’t did a team battle in a while. How about doing Romeo and Juliet vs. Bonnie and Clyde next? Upvote Guys so we can see?
Bonnie and Clyde win!! Juliet had to carry her team.
"Please to remember the fifth of November, gunpowder treason and plot. I see no reason why gunpowder treason should ever be forgot." Keep up the good work, loving the channel.
I hav to admit, I'm surprised that a rapper would know so much about history and seem to enjoy it. Hats off to you.
I’ve seen some really good breakdowns of this battle, but this was next level. This was the best audio, visual, historical, and pop culture, bar catching I’ve seen.
Massive creds for hosting a history class while reacting to a music video. Props!
Venezuelan here, keep the great reactions Knox! Love them!
Let's go, hyped for this one
The sweat is likely a reference to sweaty labor, since communism is all about the proletariat.
if you get a chance watch the making of the rap behing the scenes. alot of the wordplay is written by Zach Sherwin who guests on it sometimes.
OML I have never been this entertained by a reactor before god the information this guy provides is amazing. This definitely deserves a sub🤣🤣🤣👌
Tony Hawk vs Wayne Gretzky, definitely! Great reaction, man!
Please do Spielberg vs Hitchcock next or soon at least. Think you’ll love it
Che ended up in Bolivia not Colombia after his failure in the Congo
Ah, dumbass. Can I get a redo
Oh and after Guy Fawkes killed himself they still "cut his junk out" and his other body parts so he could be displayed in different places in England
You still the best tho
"penny for the Guy" is a phrase well-known in Britain. It doesn't carry any meaning anymore but back in the day the effigy of Guy Fawkes would be paraded around town and children would ask for locals to pay "a penny for the Guy" as payment for them having made the effigy. This request often came with a veiled threat that more would be stolen if you didn't pay the penny
Tony Hawk vs Wayne Gretzky please! It's so good!
You're approximately half right - on Nov 4, children would wheel around the effigy of Guy Fawkes that would later be burned on the bonfire, shouting "Penny for the Guy!" in order to raise money for fireworks.
"That drum track is like a Spanish reggaeton track" *sigh* ok you got my like
This is the first one of your videos that I have watched, and honestly I just really enjoy how much you actually delve into the background of everything historically.
Bonnie and clyde vs. Romeo and juliet is fire. Check out that one.
Seconded
Good video as always, love watching these ERB ones!
Regarding the video quality dip, I try to always just keep it manually set to "1080p" (or whatever) in that little cog wheel, rather than "Auto" because sometimes it just messes up, especially when you jump around in the timeline a lot.
"Muddled your economy like mint in a mojito"
As mentioned before, Che was on a banknote, banknote is money like mint and mojito is a drink that originated in Cuba. GENIUS
Mint is an ingredient that is muddled in a mojito. Quit stretching to create wordplay that isn't there.
“I don’t want your sweat on my sword quote is referencing sweatshops that the merch was made in
Enjoyed this video!
THANK YOU!!!!! I've been waiting for this one.
I have a feeling you would love James Bond vs. Austin Powers
Thanks!
I had 0 clue Knox was gonna teach me more today than my history teacher did Ina full semester
Hey Knox I know you won't propably see this, but I'd really love you to see Einstein vs Hawking, cuz there is one bar which I honestly consider one of the smartest in rap ever (don't wanna spoil it tho). Love these breakdowns
It's the p-brane line, right?
@@alaeriia01 I'm dope as 2 rappers
ERB should really back you up. You have become my go to history and rap professor.
