    High blood pressure runs in my family, but so does obesity. My blood pressure topped out at 150+/90+. Medication brought it down, but this year I decided to get my health in order. Dropped 70 lbs, exercise 1 hour+ daily, eating more whole food based and less sodium, and I consume beet juice. Blood pressure now hovering around 120/65, and completely off medication. Genetics matter, but it seems in my case BMI and V02 max were the big thing. This has been a huge motivator to stay extremely fit.

    So true. Hypertension is often misconstrued as a disease, when it’s actually a symptom of an underlying condition, most of which are correctable. Unfortunately, the battery of tests one would have to go through in order to rule out and hopefully determine the etiology of the hypertension are many and costly. It’s just easier for the patient to take the prescribed meds and then procrastinate on getting all the tests completed. Many people lack the insurance or the resources to realize the follow up evaluation. As such, only a fraction of those who are diagnosed with hypertension can actually complete the follow up diagnostics.

    • @moonrider99
      @moonrider99 11 месяцев назад +3

      @martindavis4287 it's a mechanism that allows turning off(+methyl) or on (-methyl) certain portions of DNA, thereby controlling which genes are on or off in that region.
      DNA methylation is a biological process by which methyl groups are added to the DNA molecule. Methylation can change the activity of a DNA segment without changing the sequence. When located in a gene promoter, DNA methylation typically acts to repress gene transcription. In mammals, DNA methylation is essential for normal development and is associated with a number of key processes including genomic imprinting, X-chromosome inactivation, repression of transposable elements, aging, and carcinogenesis.

    I heard a recent analogy of how healthcare treats issues today.. symptoms instead of cure. So it goes like this. A patient has severe pain in their finger. the doc gives them antibiotics and pain meds. the pain does not go away, and in fact the finger gets infected and they eventually have to amputate due to gangrene. When the simple solution was to remove the thorn that was in the finger.

    I'm a 38 year old man who is 320lbs. My weight has fluctuated up and down from 280 to nearly 400 for several years due to food addiction/mental health issues (although I'm NOT someone who uses any of that as an excuse for my weight, it's my fault 100%). I understand my weight is unhealthy, and I'm doing my best to never give up on my war against food addiction.
    That being said, I've never once needed any long term or maintenance medications. My blood pressure has only ever been 'elevated' when I was at my heaviest and I was very nervous about my health.
    I did end up having to get gallbladder surgery recently to remove a gallstone, which happened to everyone in my family, although they haven't officially linked gallbladder issues to heredity. And if you've ever had a surgery, they tend to take a lot of very precise measurements, and they all told me I was in perfect health aside from the number on the scale. That's been my biggest health issue so far *knocks on wood*.
    What I'm trying to say is that it has always baffled me how it seems almost everyone my age and weight are on 10 different medications to stay alive, and I've never needed any one of them. Not even a daily asprin. I also have never used or needed a breathing machine for sleep apnea. And I'm someone who has spent years eating McDonald's and Wendy's everyday. And a LOT of it.
    The one thing I will say, is that a lot of my weight is muscle, but it's mixed in with a TON of that baby, flabby type fat.
    The other thing I'll say is that I've always been somewhat active, though my whole life is at home, working remote. I'm mobile. I walk somewhere or climb stairs almost every day. I occasionally go to the gym to maintain the muscle I have. I don't actually look anywhere near as heavy as I actually am. And I'm not afraid to get up and go do something that needs to get done.
    So the stuff in this video is very interesting to me.

      You are going to die very soon if you dont drop your weight, the only thing you have going for you is your strong body genes and your age, as soon as that dwindles your life will change completly for the worst if you dont do something right now.

      I know you said you don’t make excuses but try just admitting you’re a fatass who eats too much without even saying stuff like “food addiction” (we all have that to some degree - food tastes really good now)
      The truth sets you free and helps give you the motivation to change
      Also you might have leg muscle but that’s it - the rest of you is just enormous blubber wrapped around a normal skeleton

    I cured my Psoriasis completely after suffering with it for years. I quit drinking first off and changed my diet to a much healthier one. I think I might of actually figured out the cause of mine. Mtfr gene mutation that causes me to not be able to digest folic acid. People need folate or methyl folate not synthetic folic acid. Cut out all enriched and fortified grains and beer and see if that does it. Everyone is different but I think it comes down to food allergies or not being able to convert certain nutrients or synthetic vitamins. They turn into free radicals and cause all types of auto immune conditions and whole body dysfunction. You gotta start with the basics and work out from there. Good healthy whole foods, exercise and sunlight. Good luck! Thanks Gary!
