Thank you for this. I needed this bc my timing chain tensioner wasnt getting the pressure it needed and didnt know what it was. Finally found out it was the oil pump thank you
Great Video, I've had a couple of these Ecotec oil pumps apart, I've seen them with the steel back plate and also an aluminum back plate. Wondering if the steel plate oil pump assembly is an improved pump? One of these engines had 261K miles with the original timing chain, do you see that very often? Thank you, again great video.
@@k24oreo84 I'd get a Cloyes timing chain kit and replace it. When I changed mine, motor now is so quiet, many times at a light I think engine shut off. Has almost 300k at present. Stay safe.
Thanks for the video. Those are some large oil galleries on the low and high side. Did you drain the oil in the sump before removing the cover? How much oil came out of the high side of the oil gallery and how much came out of the timing cover and around the pump. Some people believe that when the engine stops, all the oil in the oil galleries inside the engine drain back down through the pump and into the sump causing pump cavitation.
@@royzcustomz Thanks, did you remove the oil filter prior to the timing cover? I have seen pics of the oil pump when removed and the plate taken off, there was a lot of oil. Did the engine sit idle for a while, and what other work was done.

@@johnnyb6260 pressure switch and sending unit is usually the same thing, most of the time it is located on the side of the engine. Might be in the back by the fire wall or it is by the oil filter. Hello... What was the reason for the change? Also my 2010 Chevy Cobalt is leaking. Oil and I cannot find out where. I feel like it's coming from the area where all the pullys are. I have a hunch that is coming from the oil pump. But this doesn't look like other cars for the oil pump is outside.
I was rebuilding the engine so I wanted to change the oil pump as well. The oil pump is on the front of the engine, when it's put together it just looks like part of the engine if you're not a regular mechanic.
I'm currently putting an engine in a 2010 gmc terrain. Has the 2.4 ecotec. Brand new crate engine, do I have to prime the oil pump before starting the engine?
Hey how hard should it be to turn the pump once the screws are torqued? Like should be turnable by hand? I just put mine together and it's tight, I can turn it with a set of pliers opened up in it but not with my fingers, I'm worried my timing cover plate might be bent or warped. Thanks
@@royzcustomz that's what I assumed, I put the original plate on just to see and it felt much better, I could turn it by hand. The steel plate I got from Melling seemed to rock on the timing cover plate, almost like it was high centering. Seemed to be binding it up. I laid a square on the steel plate too and got the same rocking issue, it can't be right.
I replaced an oil pan on my 2011 Malibu and I think I left something in it before installment. Heard it make noise and then it stopped and ran fine, until the engine stopped, and the car shut off, not bad noises tho, I quickly realize that the oil pump was clogged or so I hope so, anybody knows if the piece will be in the oil pump?
can i remove this without pulling the engine out of the car (saturn l200). Major oil leak but i cant find it bc it's dripping onto the belt flinging it everywhere.
No, that would be a bad head gasket, bad piston rings, or possibly bad valve seals. Might even be a bad pcv valve. I would check the compression and see if it might be low if so you probably need a new head gasket or rings.
@@anthonykulhanek1307 nope, there is room to do it once you get the front timing cover off the front of the engine. There's not a whole lot of room but there is enough.

I'd say try amazon man

This is the first one I've had the pump off of but I might guess that the steel plate might be a model year thing.
Lol, my car is at 262k on the original timing chain that's why I'm replacing it.

I have a leak seems to be coming from the spring end cap wondering if this will be cause to replace the whole pump or some how just the end cap?
Check for cracks and make sure all the bolts are tight.

Crankshaft seal, Behind balancer.
Hello.to install back the oil pump ti doesnt need any gasket or silicone?
Been a while but I believe it had a gasket with the kit.
Nice video...thanks! Do you have to "prime" the pump in any way or just put on the front cover, fill engine with oil and start up?
I think you really should. I don't think I did but I guess I got lucky cause the xar still runs and drives just fine.
Just lubricate all moving parts generously with motor oil, I would not use wd-40. Plus I would clean it all up.
@Dev JB motor oil is perfect for reassemble

Oil and coolant got mixed cuz water pump failed on my equinox do you recomend to changing it?

Shouldn't you prime a oil pump they work off of suction if they don't have petroleum jelly they want such oil into them
