Hi Megan. Just wanted to say that this is the clearest, most concise tutorial I have ever seen on a quilting project. I appreciated your being so well organized and being prepared for each step of the project. Beautiful camera work and sound made it very clear to see and hear exactly what you were doing, The coasters turned out very nice, and I plan to use your technique for coasters as well as other projects. Well done!!
I especially appreciate that you show the potential pitfalls along the way (clipped corners) and how to fix it. We've all been there.
Thank you! :)
Also tacking down the strip is a great idea. I found many pieces of fabric were loose when I sewed strips on batting and if I had taken time for those little stitches it would have been smoother.
This was the best tutorial for quilt as you go coasters. I got the best results and have coasters I’m actually proud to display. I recently taught myself to sew, so your clear instructions with tips and fixes was valuable info for me
I love the tips you give us about the presser foot, what happens if we cut through the stitching, why use 1/8” etc. Thank you. It makes the difference between struggle and satisfaction.
You explained it very well! Greetings from Berlin, Germany. 🌲⛄❄️🙂
Alex, Thank you, Loved your tutorial, I’m making some for additional Christmas gifts for my grandson’s teachers!! Thanks again!!
Really enjoyed your video, will be making some coasters. Thank you. Geraldine South Wales

Just finished watching this delightful tutorial. You made it so simple! Going up to dig around my fabric stash. Thank you! xx
I’m so glad you liked it! I think I need to make a st Patrick’s day set!
I love this project. I like the low stress level of it. I have a huge box of recycle denim that I think might now become a few coasters that with flannel would be adorable.
You are such a good teacher! I've learned a lot from you. Thank you for sharing.
These a really cute. Your explanation and instructions are very clear. Thanks so much.❤️

Nice to see this. I subbed today too. We are making potholders for our Quilt Guild dinner for favors! Will make them a little bigger. Would make great hot plates too with insulated batting.
Thats a great idea! I'm always struggling to find enough hot plates around the holidays!
Very nice presentation! ♦️ Love this idea for a quick gift! ♥️🎁♥️

I'm so glad you liked it! I've certainly made a lot of these little coasters, so I was happy to share!
Precise tutorial thank you ! This is my next project
I made a full king size blanket by attaching all the completed blocks together to each other with a feather stitch.
Great idea. Thanks!
This is a great idea and yours are really cute!!
A lovely idea for simple gifts
Thanks! I’ve made several sets for gifts and they are always well received :)
Great Christmas gift idea!!!
Very helpful!
Love the project I'm new to quilting. This will be fun to try thank you!
A small project like coasters is a great way to get into quilting! Pillow covers are also a nice small manageable project. I was kind of silly and jumped in with a queen size quilt as my second project! It was so much!! :)
@@TinyOrchardQuilts Hi, you where ambitious and I love that. Have fun quitling!💕💕
Great video! It looks like a nice, easy way to dip one's toe in the pool if (like me) you've never done any sort of piece quilting. And who doesn't need more coasters? (OK, my husband *claims* we don't need anymore, but he is so, so wrong about that.) The tip about easing around the corner during the top-stitching is clever. Not only would these make a great gift all on their own, they'd be wonderful as part of a full set: maybe 4 coasters, 4 placemats, 2 potholders, and if you have lots of matching scraps maybe throw in a table runner, too. (Side note - I used to be a spinner at the Renaissance Faire, and when patrons would ask me "What happens if the thread breaks?" I'd deliberately break it and say, "Dost thou mean as such?" They'd always gasp in alarm at that. Watching you deliberately cut your thread when trimming the corner, I finally understand the little heart attack I was giving them, LOL!!)
HI, I've been watching your video's for about 1 year now.. This was fun to watch, and I really enjoy how much you enjoy the process, and you are Chill/Zen... Thank you for all your tutorials.. and help you give us out here.. in internet land.. best wishes for 2022..
Tolle Idee - ich verstehe zwar nichts, aber kann ja sehen 🤓😊
Fabulous! Thank you so much for this 😃🤗❤️
Cool! 💯 Definitely doing these QAYG coasters💕
That’s super cute. Now I know what to do with all my scraps!
Hi Diane, how's your day going with you?
Enjoyed this !
Great tutorial! And super-adorable coasters!! 🧵❤️
Thanks Sandra! I hope you love making them as much as I do!
I really appreciate you detailed explanations of steps, such as to consider lengthening your stitch when going over the thick, lumpy edges. These coasters are such a clever and adaptable idea!
Love it!!! Thank you!
Recently discovered your channel and I am so glad I did! Your clear and cheerful way of explaining each step makes it easier to complete the same project. Cannot wait to checkout more of your fun tutorials. Thanks!
just came across your channel & wow love these coasters! What a stash buster! gonna make some. thanks & just subbed!
I’m so glad you liked them! I’ve made a few dozen in all different colors. They are so useful and quick!
Your tutorial is great. Thanks
Great project!
Thank you!
Great little project. Thanks
I hope you enjoy making a set! I’ve made a few now and need to make some spring themed coasters!
Love your fabric with the vintage newspaper design very fun.
I wish I knew what it was! I just had a fat quarter of it but it isn't the side with the printed selvedge. If I find more, I'm definitely going to grab a yard.
I am drooling over all the fabrics behind you. Love all your colors
Just found you. Love your style. Thank you.
welcome! I'm so glad you found my channel :)
I really appreciated the hint to sew at 45 degrees at the corners. I am never able to stop at the right distance away from the corner, so this will prevent a lot of stopping and finagling the top stitches.
This was fun. I've made these for a literally years, but I can still learn something!! LOL BTW...love your rings. Couldn't tell if they were garnets or rubies or something else, but they sure are pretty.
Loved this tutorial! I can't believe that I throw most of my scraps away! Oops! I won't anymore. Thinking this will be a fun project for my friends after I create some scraps out of a fat quarter!
Super cute. You could also bind them instead of the flip method. It would use up just a few more scraps but it would be a little more work.
Excelente 👍
Thanks for showing us these coasters. Could you please tell me what batting is best to use
So cute! Love the fabrics too! You are so informative and I absolutely love your style. Just started watching your channel and you’ve become one of my favorites.
Thank you for sharing this. You do a great job with tutorials. Thank you for showing us the "oops" at the corner. It is nice to know the correction we can do. ♥️🤗📍✂️🪡🧵
Thank you. Loved this tutorial. Love your rings too …so unusual…what stones are the p,ease?
Im loving your tutorial..can you share what kind of clips you use..love the metal end.♥️
Thankzyou formnsharing !
fabulous idea. thanks. i will subscribe. :)
Thank you! I hope you find lots of other things you like as well :)
Awesome tutorial! I make bowl cozies but before I put them together, I use it as an opportunity to practice free-motion quilting as well as using up scraps (but it takes 2 batting squares). I like the coaster idea too! Very clear instructions. Thanks again for what you do!
That’s a great idea! I made a couple of sets of those reusable paper towel things ages ago to practice free motion. It was perfect-such low stakes!
Your idea of using the bowl cozies as practice for free motion quilting is a Fantastic Idea!! I am about to make some for c'mas gifts and the ones I keep for myself as well as some other projects for my house would work great for practicing. I guess I just never thought of small projects in that way because I use the special stitches on my machine. Thanks for the idea!!
Hi Megan. I love your videos and would like to know what longarm machine are you using to quilt your tops please. I am wanting to purchase
a larger machine for my grace frame. TY!
Nice 👍🏾
Thanks for this! Do you prewash the batting?
I like your teaching style & the coasters are a cute project. (good practice for newbies). I subbed also. TFS
Thank you!!
If it was mentioned in the video I missed it but what type of batting is this? Also, ty for the tutorial its so easy to follow! Can’t wait to use up all these scraps 😅
I’m enjoying your videos! Thank you for explaining every step and trick.
You are so welcome!
Love love loved your tutorial. What a fun project
What kind of scissors are you using?
Look for a bal point screwdriver. It works great for poking out corners
Is there any alternatives to using batting? I'm working on making strips from all my small yardage right now
you could use old rags ( like towels cut into rags).
Great timing. Though a year later. LOL it takes a while for me to catch up. But this is great.
I'm thinking of getting a Juki. Do you recommend it? I know a lot of quilters love them.
I love my juki! Its simple to use, has a great fast backstitch, and is nice and quiet. I'd say the downsides are definitely the lack of a zig zag stitch which I don't use often but sometimes you just need it and the needle threader. Its honestly pretty bad. I end up hand threading just about every time.
I recently bought a juki and I am totally in love with it! I can't believe I ever sewed without it! I have the HZL DX7 so it has tons of stitches to choose from, but you can also switch it to a straight stitch machine if you want to. You won't be disappointed!!!
KERA SHERRILL that’s good to know. I can’t find a Juki dealer near me as I’d love to test it. Still so I intrigued though. I do quilting unboxings & other types of videos on my channel. Please stop by and subscribe if you’d like. It’s free and I’d love the support. 😊
🥰
Could you use this method for hot pads or pot holders without adding any other fabric?
Yes!
What company is 6our sewing machine? It has a nice solid sound! I like it!
I use a juki 2010 and it’s honestly a great machine! I have a janome 8900 as well but if I had to pick just one, it would be the juki :)
Would love a supply list to go along with the video. Helpful when pulling together supplies without going through the video and all the ads
I never get nice corners always unevenly matched. Especially hard to sew over the corners when top stitching that narrow 1/8th seam allowance. 🤔😭
Since these coasters are 7" square, they seem a bit big for coffee mugs or glasses. Can they be used as hot pads? And what kind of batting is between the outside layers?
That’s a good idea! If I was going to use them as hotpads, I’d probably use that special thermal batting. I think it’s called insul-brite? Or something similar? It has a foil looking backing to help deflect heat.
Thank you for your response. My machine is about 25 years old and the dials measure in inches rather than mm. I appreciate your explanation.
When you say “strings” are you referring to jelly roll strips? 2.5inch strips?
They can be any width! 2.5 is kind of a standard string width but since mine are a lot of scraps, they vary from 3/4” to 3”
Aren't they pretty huge though for a coffee cup or mug? Most are 4.5" when finished.
What kind of machine do you have in this video?
