    Just got my mimic pro and working with it. It's very different from my Roland and Yamaha E Modules . . . I began to think . . . this is really more of a studio approach . . . you just confirmed it! What I didn't realize was how to maximize the potential of the studio approach and your video here of "approach it like a sound engineer" really clicked (pun intended) and now I am going back and reanalyzing my settings. THANK YOU!!

    love all your videos. This was my favorite so far. Actually you playing the mimic vex kits was my fav. But this one was the most informative for me. Look forward to the rest.
    thanks for all you do.

    This is a great education/tutorial video for this module. Very helpful in general too in terms of "studio theory." I don't think most users realize the potential of this product. It is seriously ground breaking. I plan to run 14 outs to my DAW setup and mix in Pro Tools. Can't wait to see how you route to the board. I'm thinking I'd send 10 "instruments" essentially dry, and then the "full kit" OH L/R and Room L/R as 4 tracks to incorporate on the whole kit. Do you think that's possible?

    • @VExpressionsLTD
      @VExpressionsLTD  6 лет назад

      Thank you for the kind words! I'd have to think your question through, but I think my upcoming DAW video will cover all your possibilities. At least, I plan to cover more options than my personal routing. I just want to wait for an update regarding the direct outs, so I will not have to do a second video later showing the improvement that is near. Hope that makes sense.

    Very good information, It would be interesting to see and hear how it connects to a PA. There are lots of videos how it sounds in headphones and on recording and on RUclips, live in a PA system is completely different. Do you play live with your drums?

    • @VExpressionsLTD
      @VExpressionsLTD  6 лет назад

      Well, it may be a little pointless as recording a PA won't really translate to video very well. I guess it is easier to say that upcoming videos will encompass examples of the Master Outs, as well as the Direct Outs. These signals will be the signals you send to your FOH/PA. Additionally, everyone's PA external gear will be completely different, as will everyone's engineer's experience and capabilities. So, the only thing not represented yet in the videos are the Direct Outs. These will be showcased in our upcoming DAW tutorial. Hope that helps!

    Great video Alan. It makes much more sense when we think that Mimic is like a studio. Question please, I have heard in a comment you made, that the instruments that are in Aux inputs don’t go to the Master out. Do you think that with the mimic update you mentioned, that this will go to the Masters out? Thank you.

    • @VExpressionsLTD
      @VExpressionsLTD  6 лет назад

      Thank you! I'll have to look into your question. That's the first I've heard this. Tell me where I said this? Aux5 can be heard as a cowbell in my other video(s). That was recorded through the Master out. So, I don't think that's the case. I'll comment again if I find differently.

      V Expressions LTD In your Kit Examples video, you answered a comment I’ve written. You said that there. I dont have the Mimic Pro yet (will purchase next month if everything goes well), so I can’t test it and I’m curious about it. I am learning what is possible to learn about the module without it, so when I put my hands on it I will know what to do. Changing subject here, your work is fantastic and the kits sounds amazing. Thank you.

    • @VExpressionsLTD
      @VExpressionsLTD  6 лет назад

      Well, my swipe may have mis-typed. lol Aux to Master is just fine. You have nothing to worry about. I'll look for the comment and correct it. Thanks for the kudos!

    • @VExpressionsLTD
      @VExpressionsLTD  6 лет назад

      Ah! I see! You misunderstood the "auxiliary input" for inputting music. Not the Aux pad inputs. ;) Auxiliary pads go to the mains just fine. Actually, the auxiliary input will also be able to go to the mains in Mimic's update as well. :)

    Alan, thank you so much for this video! Just what I needed. I look forward to viewing more. One question for you: you provided specific output mixer settings for the origins sets- do you find these settings are also optimal for the default kits? I am using all my direct outs to connect to our mixer which also serves as an audio interface for recording in our DAW.

    • @VExpressionsLTD
      @VExpressionsLTD  6 лет назад +1

      To answer your question, the settings in my QuickStart video work fine. The mixer settings in that video are for the initial release of Origins. In this video, I talk about how we will transition with the new Pearl update to a more consistent and correct usage of levels. I am updating Origins to work with Mimic defaults even better. Please read my recent post over at vdrums.com ( www.vdrums.com/forum/advanced/v-expressions-custom-kits/1165141-vex-mimic-pro?p=1188834#post1188834 ) about the upcoming update(s). Use the settings in the QuickStart video for now, until I can issue the update in tandem with Pearl. I plan to do a new video going over all this upon the update as well. Just so you know, there will be no change in sound. It is simply all mixer and level-offset adjustments to match Pearl even better. Hope that helps!

    Thank you for this insight & explanation sir. I'll be experimenting with mine soon when I get it and will be checking your website for expansion. I'm also curious about what in ear monitor (or headphones) you are wearing as I'm aware of quality/protection. Thanks.

    • @VExpressionsLTD
      @VExpressionsLTD  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks for the kind words. I actually only use my IEMs for voice over in these videos. I have, to this day, still not found a set of IEMs that I "love". For that reason, I still use headphones for the best monitoring results directly at the module. In many of these videos, I've been using some old Bose that are a flatter reference, and I'm used to. However, I've recently swapped over to the ATH-M50Xs. I will likely be using these moving forward, as many customers/drummers and studios do as well. I'm sorry, but I have no IEMs I can truly recommend. I've tried many, but none are worth mentioning. I have a feeling I need to go with some high-end expensive IEMs to find nirvana. However, I am just hesitant to do this, as you are stuck with what you custom order... whether they rock or suck. I think that's a bad satisfaction/return policy.

      @@VExpressionsLTD Thank you for your reply Alan. I guess I'm looking for a good balance between sound quality and protection as I started developing hearing problems and I need to be careful when playing Edrums 😎... BTW I got my Mimic Pro and I'm really Loving it so far. I will visit your website soon because I've been a satisfied customer in the past with my ol td12 module. Have a blessed day.

      I think you need to contact Pearl about calibration. Calibration is separate from the actual kits.

      @@VExpressionsLTD Try to look at Davinci Resolve 17 in the Lightwave tap,- the mixer here can show you a ton of onfo for each channel. You dont need to klick your way down into the sup menues to see what is going on. Or look at the Mackie mixer software. And to me the faders moving up and down,- AND side to side makes me wunder why. I have a bachelor in multimedie design and over 25 years of experience..... the UI of the Mimic would not pass an exame in my school. But the drums sound so awesome..... and you are doing a great job.
