I bought the Arsenal kit last week. Sounds awesome. VEX are the best custom kits, they sound awesome!!!
The youtube videos give so much more information and feel for your work than the samples and owner's manual alone.... very wise of you to put this channel together! I look forward to your Arsenal how-to video!
Amazing. Great work Alan
Since this is the 30th Anniversary of the Black album, perhaps in a future video you can show us how to dial in kit to sound close to that, particularly the snare. Been waiting to update to the 50x and today's the day! Thanks!
Well done Alan. Appreciate all the detail and the work that you put into the kit sounds as well as these videos to help explain your process can't wait for the next video in the tweaking of parameters etc.
Just got my TD50K2. I’m buying this expansion today
Really appreciate you taking the time to make these videos available. I am still working my way through the kits and after watching this, I think I will start again and listen more intently. For a follow-up video, my vote would go for another tutorial on setting up a Jon Bonham kit as you did for the TD-50 Infinity.
Mind reader.
Downloaded today and it’s very well thought out. Having a dry, natural and wet option is so useful. On a first listen through I thought the wet kits were too ambient BUT then I played them along to a song and WOW they just sit perfectly in the mix. Clearly all of the kits and instrument were designed to sit in the context of live or recorded music, that’s where the genius is. I look forward to a deeper listen in the next few days. Compared to the Roland 50X kits these are more detailed.
Awesome work, Alan! I'm having a blast aquainting my ear to the nuances of all the kits. Loving the detail you put into this video and the clear explanation. Wish list for Artist/custom kits: Danny Carey, both a snares on & snares off kit. I'd love a natural kit sound of Sugar drums (or Ludwigs) and Agop cymbals. The guys that come to mind for these are Aaron Sterling, Carter McLean and Jonathan Womble. I'd love an 'Americana' vibe like Matt Chamberlain. From Generations, I loved the Dream Theater kits and the Fleetwood Mac dry, tubby sound. I'd also love a Steve Jordan type of kit with 17" hats and that cracking snare of his. I'd love a Roto Tom kit, especially like the ones from the early Inxs LP's. Larry/U2 "Unforgettable Fire" era kit where he used the timbales, but they were deadened for his 'busy' playing period. I'd love Beatles-era tea towel Tom pack. And of course, Dave Weckl and Steve Gadd's kits. The Weckl in Generations was killer. Loved the kits in the Infinity pack - many of those were my faves. Alex Van Halen's sound from 1984. Pearl Jam '10'. Anything from Steve Lillywhite produced in the 80's. Benny Greb! Love his kit with the 2 diff snares, the cutting high tom and then the rumbling floor. Cymbal sets from Meinl, Agop, Heartbeat (big & washy - perfect for Worship), Sabian HHX/Artist series (Mark Guiliana!). Would love a snare pack: Acrolite/Aluminum, Black Beauty 5" and 6.5", Sugar Poplar, Ludwig or DW Maple, Dunnet Titanium, Copperphonic, and a Ludwig or Yamaha Brass. I'm sure there are many others I'm forgetting, but these are 'top of mind' right now.
Hey Alan - adding to my list below, a few more to add to the wish list: A&F snares (especially the steel snare!) and at least one of their kits. Nothing else sounds like it. Supraphonic snares in 5" and 6.5". The Def Lep kit from Generations (minus the cowbell on the tom rim). That kit was one that I used in multiple recordings, both personal and Church projects. Speaking of Church, TONS of Worship drummers are always seeking the David Whitworth/"Bethel sound". Deep, rich, fat snare (he uses a deep snare with 42-strand wires and always hits with the butt end), big washy super dark hats and cymbals (over-sized Agops, Heartbeat would do the same) and deep, rich tones from the toms and kick. The other thing to mention is I added back in around 25 'original' 50X kits back in to my first 100 faves. That includes some original kits from the 50X, plus kits from the Roland & Cloud sites. A few worth mentioning: "Funk Metal", "Soft & Open", "Modern Jazz", "Rock Steel", "Acid", "Acoustic". Other kits feature Jazz tunings and tighter, Bop sounding kits. I had to do a number of tweaks to all of them, but after they were dialed in they sound great! Thanks man!
Looking forward to trying the pack as soon as kit is delivered and set up. Re artists , Phil Rudd would be great 👍🏻
Tico Torres from the Keep The Faith era would be a great kit 😊
Something just came to mind: Some reggae/ska-ish artist kits.. Think old 311.. Sublime. 311 had some really interesting metal, idk, popcorn-y snares? Whatever they were using is very unique. Oh, and Neil Peart 2112 for sure. I think those were Octobans in the long, high to low tom runs? That would be so cool! 😎 Thanx!
Bought! I know how I'm spending my week. Thanks for all your work Alan.
Any chance of getting a Wuhan china cymbal in the future?
Great work...as usual! I will use the kits only with direct output...so only singles instrument eq and compression...not general FX, ambient or compression. Is there any differents in sounds, between the three category, if I will use that way? Thanks
Not much. I would suggest sending the overheads and reverb if possible. Your venue can be your ambience. However, you can experiment with sending ambience as well.
bonjour moi je suis un peu deçu car je n est les memes sons (artist et styles) que dans les examples dommage .Peut ont les modifier mais avec quelles réglages ? Merci.
Please email Alan through the website. The examples are recorded directly from the master outs. If you are listening to direct outs or different monitoring from the computer, they will sound different. Additionally, if you are playing the snare in the center head, you won’t hear the rimshots you hear in the examples. (you will hear the grace notes, diddles, rolls, and ruffs) Lastly, if you don’t choose your pad setup properly in the trigger settings, volumes will not be correct. Contact us to discuss why you feel this way. Please send detailed information on why you hear a difference. We will diagnose your issue.
Awesome Alan, if you could create a Copeland kit aka The Police, wink, wink! Just bought the expansion pack too!
You read my mind. I will do my best to make it one of the demos. ;) Thank you!!
@@VExpressionsLTD cheers Alan 😁
Serious question, are they still making the TD - 50 X? because I’ve been waiting about a month. Out of stock at E drum center
Yes, of course. The delay has to do with international shipping… and likely lowered production rates due to the pandemic. The late fall timeline that’s coming from Roland is likely because they know international shipping is that far out.
There is also a global chip shortage that affects any electronics (including cars.)
Rick Allen Please!!
Just play the kits!!!
