Looking forward to diving deeper into the pack and model kits to really enhance our sets.

    Wow! What a fantastic tutorial...
    I just love the Roland TD50 series and all the possibilities they offer.
    I will definitely "upgrade" to Roland products now that I have more money to invest in this.
    (Been using Alesis up to now and I guess it will be Bye Bye pretty soon but, hey, Alesis is not too bad
    for the money) Anyways...
    I saw Led Zep live here in Montreal probably 3 or 4 times starting way back in 69.
    I'm a drummer and I can tell you, man, I was laughing all through this tutorial at how close
    you get to the original Bonzo sound. (revised and modern) Classic vintage big ludwig sound that only Bonzo
    mastered at the time (late 60's and early 70's)
    I'll always remember how that 24 inch bass drum sounded like in the Montreal Forum. Just like a Cannon!
    Your Bass drum in all its 24 inch glory is fantastic and so is the snare, toms, Hi-Hat cymbals.
    Especially reflects I think the original studio sessions for was it the fourth album, Led Zeppelin IV ?
    where they recorded the drums in that manor in england and through some trial and error or should I say
    "experimenting" came up with such a unique sound for Bonzo's drums.
    Thanks for this tutorial, you really know your stuff with that module.

      I run master out to my interface and record in Studio One. The master at full volume to the interface is fine. It runs at line level. As long as you don't engage phantom power, it expects line level. This usually brings it in at a good level to work with.

    Great vid and some seriously nice technique! Master Bonham and you’ve mastered drumming.
    I tend to play more hard rock / heavy metal - this new Infitiy has some nice ones but have you ever considered trying to do a more all-encompassing release & reproduce some more famous heavier kits? It seems like these VDrums don't get accepted much in the more heavier music genres, it'd be nice to change that a little.
    Examples: Metallica (older), Rush, Slayer (Lombardo), Keith Moon, Dream Theater (Portnoy), Tool, Iron Maiden, Van Halen, Ian Paice, Phil Rudd, Ginger Baker, Pantera... off the top of my head. and you already got this Bonzo kit to start! 😉
    Anyways, just some ideas. I'm sure you've already done something with a few of these guys in mind already but a HEAVY pack or something similar would certainly make ME happy...

    I’m new to what you do so pardon the question. I like my SD3. I’ve been making my own presets. Let’s suppose I have a TD50 and your immersion I was looking at this morning. I have a 👌 perfect creation of Bohnams “Levee” in my SD3. Can I copy it to your immersion so that it can be in the right side list like a song list? If I can I could do all my favs into that list for live play but we’re made by me. I’m sure I’m not saying this correctly. Tell me
    .

    • @VExpressionsLTD
      @VExpressionsLTD  4 года назад

      The 50 is not designed to "load VST kits". You could only create your own samples to load into the module that would act as one-shot polys, which will sound terrible in comparison. You're better off triggering that kit as needed, and using our kits directly in the module.

      I'm sure there's something you might be able to work with, but it will be much more work as Professional is designed as more of an acoustic pack. Origins is more warm, was our first release, and the Bonzo kit is always in high demand. Thus, it went in the first release.

    • @VExpressionsLTD
      @VExpressionsLTD  4 года назад

      The Command is capable of loading samples; so (assuming you’re talking about our VEX Bonham kit) you would need to record the kit sounds from the Roland module to a DAW, convert them per the Command’s needed file specifications, and then transfer them to your Command per its manual’s instructions. Of course, you should own both modules to do this “legally”. ;)

    Alan, do you foresee an "Infinity" type expansion for the TD-17KVX, or can this Bonzo kit be emulated from the Series 3 pack, following these steps in this vid?

    • @VExpressionsLTD
      @VExpressionsLTD  5 лет назад

      I'm in the middle of production on the next 50 installment, but I will consider attempting an Infinity-like pack for the 17. The main (HUGE) bumps in the road are the major engine differences in the modules. They do not share the "exact" same instrument list, and the 17 lacks all effects at the pad/instrument level. That's a MAJOR issue for creating something like Infinity. Additionally, at the Master level, the EQ effects are completely watered down (just treble & bass options), and there's no compressor. A compressor and EQ fine-tuning at both levels are extremely important for all this. That said, I may consider "something" for the 17. Chris still has plans for more expansions as well. He's just been wrapped up with his band. They're a big full-time traveling circus. :D

    Alan, do I understand correctly that your infinity expansion only makes use of the standard instruments that are available on the stock TD-50? In other words: if one would become very very good at using all the TD 50 features, would one be able to get very similar results? No offense though, I can see that a lot of knowledge and effort has been put in this, and I'll surely consider getting this pack once I've obtained my TD 50 upgrade and playing around a bit myself first!

    • @VExpressionsLTD
      @VExpressionsLTD  3 года назад

      We currently completely re-engineer the internal samples, as we would in a real studio. The 50 is immensely powerful, with the right experience. We bring that experience to the table for those who may not have it.

    • @zspWiilem
      @zspWiilem 3 года назад

      @@VExpressionsLTD Yes I think you are doing an awesome job and it's great to get a bit of insight in how you approach this modelling process. I was just wondering as a programmer if there are other things you can do besides the use of module settings such as programming your own instruments as an addition to the available module instruments.

    • @VExpressionsLTD
      @VExpressionsLTD  3 года назад +1

      You can add samples, but I personally am not a fan. Roland modules do not allow multi-velocity sample import. Thus, you get one-shot results. This means that you will always have the transient of the sample (although, with dynamic volume changes), and many people feel it only adds to the machine gun effect. I agree. It is possible to "blend" user samples under internal sounds; but again, you'll still hear the transient and it will not sound natural. Again, just my personal opinion. Sample loading really only makes sense for some specific instruments, like rides and kicks... in my opinion.

    • @zspWiilem
      @zspWiilem 3 года назад +2

      @@VExpressionsLTD Yes, I figured that the more you can hear of your added sample, the less flexible you are in making adjustments. I tried the TD 50 in a store and was a bit underwhelmed with especially the snare sounds but it is very nice to hear what you have been able to do with them!

    • @VExpressionsLTD
      @VExpressionsLTD  3 года назад +1

      It's a night and day difference. Roland spends next to no time on creating kits. They're basically built by artists during the R&D testing phase. We've offered numerous times to create default kits, but they won't take the offer. That's fine. 😉😂

    do i get actually new sounds, or are they the default sounds edited?

    • @VExpressionsLTD
      @VExpressionsLTD  4 года назад +1

      Seems you may not understand how the Roland engine works. Roland does use a single sample for each zone. Although, they do blend head/edge/rimshot in some cases. The engine determines and varies impact, attack, dynamics, decay, etc. based on your velocity and position on the head. Thus, you hear each strike as a slightly different resulting samples. If you listen to me play, you will be able to hear what I’ve just described. So, one could describe the engine sound results as a pseudo-round-robin sound. You don’t get the same sound “just quieter”. The engine completely varies each stroke’s sound.

    When you pay this kind of money for an electronic drum set. you want to set the kit up and and push one button that says John Bonham and it sounds like this right out of the box with no work. along with a 100 other kits that are just as good. but Roland's kits don't even sound real. you have to buy samples from other companies to get realistic acoustic sounding drums. how many years is Roland going to make electronic drum sets before they give you realistic sounding drums right out of the box.
