well, there is tons of info on Irvin. All from reddit posts to news papers writing about him and his students. He is a very successful coach, but it doesn't mean he is a decent human being. If I were you, I would definitely not risk it when there is so many schools with good reputation out there.

Live feet is when you engage your toes in a position, so he is basically saying to keep the feet flat on your instep (normally when on top i.e turtle, side control)
