I ordered this to net the algae in a large pond in our backyard. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxphFK7ETiDP5G4IGsNcg7vbASDp_YfDpI The net is very sturdy and easy to maneuver in the water. The angled edges make it easier to get into the smaller spaces among the rocks. I didn't realize that the front of the net doesn't actually have a frame to it, just the sides do, but it seems to work just fine. The handle extends to various sizes, which is a great feature when I'm in areas that are tight with shrubs at the edges of the pond. I can collapse the handle so it doesn't get stuck in the bushes.
Your braid unravels due to missing the last knots that finishes the FG. After tieing the 2-4 half hitches over the main line and flouro tag, trim flouro tight to the braid, then tie 2-3 more half hitches with the braid tag over the main line and THEN trim the braid tag. This seats the braid and creates a smaller transition to the main knot body as well allowing it to pass through your eyes smoothly without unraveling. Great video and congrats on the 2nd place finish as well!!!
That is the best way I have seen to tie a FG knot mate. I prefer the super glue approach for obvious reasons. The best part is that you hold the braid in your mush (mouth) and you have the free use of both hands. I am going to Swains Reef in a month which is on the Barrier Reef about 120 miles off the Queensland coast here in Australia. Get over here if you can; it is breathtaking and fishes well for coral trout, red emperor, mackeral etc. I will tell all my mates about your video.
Learned to tie this a couple of years ago. Will say if you are struggling, stay with it. IMO it is by far the smoothest knot going thru your guides and has proven to be the strongest in numerous test. I have gotten where I can tie it in under 2min from about 5 min when I started.
Great video! I learned this from Ott’s video.. assuming everyone is gonna tie this knot while holding their rod and reel.. he ties a loop in his braid and puts it over his reel handle and tightens the line then continues to tie his knot as in this video.. just thought I’d share this it helped me a lot keeping tension on the knot!
Everytime I finish my half hitches and tighten the knot up the tag end of the Flouro slips through everytime. Doesn’t make any sense but oh well I’ll keep trying
Thanks for the series. I have yet to see anyone else tie the Palomar the way you do, but maybe that is why they have failures. I use the double uni for line to line.
Thanks J Wbb I’m definitely going to try the FG knot. I always use the Dodd knot for my Fluro to braid. It’s a really great knot, much easier to tie and has never failed me. You can find the Dodd Knot on RUclips. Thanks as always for all the great videos.
Watched a video of you & DC having a Palomar knot tying contest a few weeks ago and during that video, you guys said to find a knot you like and just go with it. So sticking with the 7 overhands DC suggested ; ) I prefer the Double Uni to combine braid with floro, but this knot is pretty sick! I will have to try it out. But from the videos I have seen, it looks more difficult to tie than the Double Uni - especially in the wind or if you are in a rush.
Interesting... I was always taught to tie the braid on to the mono or fluorocarbon. Sometimes when I'm on the water and want a quick way to attach braid to mono or fluorocarbon is a twist on the blood knot... I call it the improved blood knot, so that there's doubled line on the knot, but it doesn't come through the guides as well as the FG knot. Thanks Jacob!
Great video Jacob, and congrats on 2nd place this week, 15 more minutes and you would taken out KVD, Got to meet you and MDJ, DC and Adrian in Dayton over the weekend. really cool
I always had too much tension on the braid, once I loosen it just a bit it was easy. I like the way Ott Defoe does it, he puts a loop in the braid and puts it over his reel handle and sticks the rod handle under his butt and then you have both hands free to tie.
Interesting couple of different takes on the FG. MDJ has an FG knot video. After cutting the fluoro, he ties 2-3 more overhand knots against the fluoro. I have been using that method for a couple of years now. Works great.
Awesome Video, I burn my tag too on fg, just something I figured out, a soldering iron with a fine tip works a lot better, you can touch it to the line get in close and not have to worry about your other line
That's why you tie it before the day you're going out, and if tied correctly isn't going to have a problem on the water unless you run into something catastrophic. I use a spinning rod day in and day out on the water, multiple times per week, yet I've only had to re-tie this knot once every 2-3 weeks. It's the deal.
Alberto or super Alberto knot! Have you ever tried it? Why the fg over Alberto? Just curious since I've never had the Alberto come unraveled but I don't fish like you do every day
I like them both. If I'm on the go on the boat and need a knot right now I'll use the crazy Alberto just for its convenience of a 1 minute knot. If I'm preping the night before for a day of fishing and have time to tie the FG knot I'll tie that. I find that the FG just comes through the guides much easier. I've had problems with the Alberto with crazy long leaders where the tag ends will interfere with the mainline when casting in the spool
The big thing with this knot is knowing you’re weaving it around the braid itself. Honestly it took me a little bit to figure that out because people just said “go under then over” which is true but I kept on going around the mono not the braid.
@@WheelerFishing 95% of the lakes we in GA fish are nothing but docks outside of Lanier. Oconee, Sinclair, west point, Jackson just thousands of docks so knowing how u approach that would be very helpful! Thanks
i like to tie an overhand knot in the floro tag end and push it down as far as i can to the FG, then fill in below and above with half hitches. then glue, this way the floro cant pull back through the FG if you cant get it tight enough. that usually is the case trying to tie this out on the water. this technique i stole from Seth Feiders' FG video.
Hi Mr. Wheeler, I was curious whether you were going to the BassMaster Classic this weekend and if so maybe where and when fans of you like me could see you if you are there
Try a perfection loop to perfection loop. I know it sounds crazy but It takes seconds and your fishing. Tie perfection loop in fluorocarbon leader and cut to length. Tie perfection loop on end of braid. Run fluorocarbon loop over braid loop. Pull tag end of fluorocarbon through braid loop. Pull tight. Loop to loop connection. Sometimes micro guides can catch it but if you trim your tag end close it goes through.
Great video! Using Power pro Spectra 15 lb Braid Main line with Sunline Super FC Sniper 10 lb leader. Follow your exact technique with 22 wraps, over/under, tightening as i go, with four over-hand knots of Braid over Braid and Leader Tag End, followed by adding super glue. When done, pull on leader line and it pulls easily out of the knot every time. The Sunline Super FC Sniper 10 lb leader line just slips through the knot and out the other end very easily with not much pull pressure necessary at all. I actually had a knot fail like this on a hook set on the water so I tested at home to see what the problem is. Any suggestions? Does it have something to do with the line I am using? I follow your instructions very carefully and tie the knot just as you show. Thanks.
Tied wrong... this knot, when tied CORRECTLY, and with your wraps really tight and compacted together... it actually works like a woven little Chinese Finger Trap toy and bites into the flourocarbon leader and just is awesome when you go with all the extra wraps and risotto finish has a smooth transition without any fray. also.
I tried it with the superglue and glued my dang fingers together when I tried to pinch it like he did in the video...........I would rather have burnt fingers than have them glued together.....ever tried to cast with your dang index finger glued to the side of your thumb...it ain't easy.
3 yrs later... I truly hope you are doing great with it and have it whipped and tied easily now. If not keep on it and watch another video by someone else right now...

Man out of all the FG knot videos I watched…for me this has been the best. Always had problems with exact wrap direction! Thanks
Try keeping tension on both lines, and keep them tight too. It makes things easier
Thank you. I’ll stick with the double uni.
Double uni try all that on a choppy boat ? I’ve use a Double clinch that works also

This is prolly the best FG knot how-to I've seen. Nicely done bro. Congrats on a solid performance yesterday!
Congrats JDub!! I’m not going to lie I was sitting on the edge of the couch watching that score tracker .
Finish with the rizutto knot. cut the tag close and hit it with the lighters
Congrats on 2nd today!! Awesome job can’t wait to see the derby videos!

FG Knot is definitely a advanced knot, but it's hands down the best. Take the time and learn how to tie it.
Little sketched out that tightening it after the first attempt it slid right off. Second time it seems to be holding.

I've tied this knot at home but would never try in a boat 15 mile an hour wind
Agree

@@tjher25 I agree. With the Alberto I keep the knot out of the spool
Loon UV Knot Sense - cover the entire knot with a light film then shine a UV light to quick cure in seconds. Adds strength and durability.
Holy complicated

RP knot always work for me 1 minute and done and has never let me down once. Who would want to tie that knot in four footers 😂😂😂😂😂
When I buy pre snelled hooks there is the other side where you loop the leader to ....how can I make this knot .....thanks in advance
Dude your awesome
Hey Jacob what scissors have you found that cut braid the best ?
normally just use the rapala scissors.. lose them too often or leave them places to focus on that too much honestly lol
Good knot
How did you get 3 hands to hold everything Lmao
Try the triple Surgeon knot. So much easier. I know this is what works for you but just try it!
No Bueno... FG 100% is the way to do it.
JW can u do a dock skipping video? Approaching the dock, how many flips under an around, baits etc..just wanna see how u approach an fish s dock.
That’s a great idea!
@@WheelerFishing 95% of the lakes we in GA fish are nothing but docks outside of Lanier. Oconee, Sinclair, west point, Jackson just thousands of docks so knowing how u approach that would be very helpful! Thanks
I like video sharing,,,🙏🙏🙏
What do you prefer for tying backing line on your bait caster to flouro? Been using the uni to uni but with tatulas t wing system it likes to hang up
Crazy question but could you show us some of the best knots to tie to your hook or bait
Why wouldn’t you put the end of the line by the spool underneath the clamp on the desk ?
Hey, I know it's an old video but watch "Tie a fg knot in under a minute". It's an Aussie guy, and by far the best way.
How long of a leader do you typically use when using a fluorocarbon leader?
Depends on technique
Thank you for this video, I personally like the super glue, but I use "clear Gorilla Glue Pen"
i like to tie an overhand knot in the floro tag end and push it down as far as i can to the FG, then fill in below and above with half hitches. then glue, this way the floro cant pull back through the FG if you cant get it tight enough. that usually is the case trying to tie this out on the water. this technique i stole from Seth Feiders' FG video.

People shouldn't say this is the best knot until they have also tried the crazy Alberto knot.
Good video but super hard to follow, I would recommend doing these types of videos with a big shark hook and huge saltwater line
I'm lost. Lol
Hope you got it now... need to know it 100%... don't worry.
Do NOT give up....
Call this series "tying the knot" with Jacob wheeler😂
I tried it with the superglue and glued my dang fingers together when I tried to pinch it like he did in the video...........I would rather have burnt fingers than have them glued together.....ever tried to cast with your dang index finger glued to the side of your thumb...it ain't easy.
This knot is a pain it looks easy to tie im not sure where I go wrong.
Modified albreit knot is easier faster and just as strong…used it first in saltwater fishing
Not.
Only knot I use, best knot .......
🚔👀
Double uni is better for new anglers
To lose fish with and get discouraged.
too complicated for me
Not good video...
It’s very difficult to see what you are doing.
you are going to fast
These knots are why i will not use Braided line...
3 yrs later...
I truly hope you are doing great with it and have it whipped and tied easily now. If not keep on it and watch another video by someone else right now...
Best ? Teeth ? Bulls--T !
What a fuckin mess. Just how you fish
trash
