- While cryptocurrency mining (Bitcoin, ethereum, or otherwise) has lost its luster in the last few weeks, there's still plenty of people snatching up GPU's to get those megahashes. The XFX RX 580 GTR-S Black Edition, with its ability to hit nearly 30 MH/s out of the box, and its hard swappable fans makes it a miner's dream card. Thanks to Wootware for sending it over for review!

At $360+ and most vendors selling it in the $450 range, still a lot for a 580!
Too true. AMD is in such a strange place ATM.
fast grab ur rx 580 4g at $269 gaming x @ amazon
Still over priced, but if you need one ... get a 3GB 1060 at NewEgg for under $200.
but at least rx580 on par with the gtx 1060 6gb at $269
I bought this same RX 580 from Best Buy at $271 with tax of 6.5%
DAILY CONTENT NOW?! Awesome stuff dude!
Not even close to having that be sustainable. :D Working hard to get closer to it though!
UFDisciple we don't need daily, as long as you maintain the quality!
I got mine for 350 about a month and a half ago. Which was an amazing steal at the moment. I also own a 75 Hz 1080p ultrawide with freesync, so the card is a joy to own. It's also a good pair with my ryzen 7 1700 for productivity (blender especially..) So in the end, for the money I couldn't get a better card. AMD high end + Linux = win in my book
I got mine for 50 off facebook marketplace... its still pretty decent
Dude.. You’re a South African channel? wow! Impressed. Subscribed!!!
Any updates? 😁
Hi, you still recommend this card for mining ? Gtx 1060 6Gb, Rx 570 or XFX Rx 580 8Gb ?
@UFDisciple I was just curious on why you had not touched on underclocking to maintain great hashrates (with Ethereum) at reduced power consumption. Increasing the memory clocks or changing its timings will make a significant bump in mining performance, but depending on the card, not all can obtain high memory clocks or opt to modify the bios.
For example, I take a bone stock RX480 8GB with a 1288core/2000mem configuration and increase the power slider to ensure that the clockrates are maintained (I make sure the fan and temperature limits do not cause the clockrates to throttle, either).
At stock settings outlined above, it mines Ethereum at 24.7mh/s and consumes an average of 112W at the GPU only (voltage automatically goes to 1.13V).
I drop the frequency slider to -14% so the core operates at 1110mhz. The hashrate bumps up by 0.1 to 24.8mh/s and it consumes an average of 86W at the GPU only (voltage automatically drops to 1.025V).
I drop the frequency slider to -18% so the core operates at 1055mhz. The hashrate returns to 24.7mh/s and it consumes an average of 77W at the GPU only (voltage automatically falls to 0.988V).
Decreasing clockrates using the slider hits a point of diminishing return when it comes to maintaining that clockrate. If I drop frequency further, the hashrate will slightly begin to fall slightly, while power consumption does not fall as fast with automatic voltages. However, in any of these scenarios, you could undervolt manually and get much less power and cause your GPU to mine ever so quietly.
For someone shy about overclocking memory (or if their 8gb part does not overclock well), then underclocking helps reduce power, temps, and fan speeds, while mining more comortably for you and the card.
+Tony E Because this was a GPU review not a "how to" on mining. I briefly mentioned it in my "how to" video released previously.
"Fan-cy" and "a breeze" lol 👍
Great content bud!👌 Fresh sub here to stay.
Ps. Love the fact than you're in SA!
can i run 1440 on this card?
I just purchased 4 of the XFX RX580 8GB cards and am planning on two more. Are these cards still good, or should I invest instead in the Geforce 1080TIs? Both cards are higher priced at the moment with the RX580s being cheaper.
Where did you buy'em from ? :)
So mining only comes from your gpu so if i got a basic cheap set up with a sick gpu it will be exactly the same ?
Does anyone know how I can get new cables for this video card I got one for dumb cheap but it has no cables?
Where so u get LEDs I think they should have just made even bigger and bigger curved fans even cooler
Its still 100 over the actual price but still just about the same as gtx 1060 6 gig and seems to run games pretty well although not too happy with batman arkham origins sometimes its super fast sometimes its slowish and stuttery the biggest thing I found so far let's hope my new i7 7700k will do the job better
I thought that ETH morning was more dependent on memory speed and that ETH miners typically undervolt and underclock the core for cooler and lower power operation. Is this wrong, or is there another popular cryptocurremcy?
How does this card compare to the MSI Armor RX 580 8GB?
Is it a good ideea today(25/11/2017) to build 3 mining rigs out of XFX Radeon Express Black 8 GB? 1 card costs EUR 294 ( 350.83 US Dollars)
I hate miners
Fair enough/.
If you can’t beat them, join them. I do wish I’d been able to take advantage of the boom more (I mostly missed out, due to having older GPUs that can only mine Gridcoin by running BOINC and having to wait for price drops on more powerful cards).
Please for help.
Bios switch , left or right for gaming ?
Hi! I got a THERMALTEK LITEPOWER 550W power supply! Is it enough to run this Graphics Card without an issue?
My processor is Ryzen 5 2600.
Please Reply!
I just bought the XFX XXX edition
whats ur opinion about it ?
@@anonymousgamers5481 It's a good card. Super quite. Can't even tell it on. Will handle just about anything you throw at it. Except, it doesn't like MXAA settings cranked up. Massive performance hits. But other than that, it's great for 1080p 60fps
@@OctaneSlain bro i have heard that its life span is short. And temperature are high. I'm going to buy rx580. Should i go for it ? I live in little high temperature region.
@@anonymousgamers5481 Mines had an uptime of 6 months straight now. I've ran furmark for 5 hours straight on it just to stress the crap out of it. AND it was also previously a mining card (got it used off ebay) so its had a hard life but she's been a tank
@@OctaneSlain hmm ok. Is sapphire is better than xfx ?
Is liking your own comment sad, because then this is a sad comment.
ya but its also funny so i think that evens it out
Waseem H i have a Rx 580 8Gb and A Ryzen 5 1400 and 8Gb Ram but i only get 30/35 fps on Gta V . Please help
Tashfiq Rahman Its gotta be how youve set your radeon settings to work with your GTA settings. You should put Radeon on default and just use the GTA settings. Thats how i set mine. I have also an 8gb RX but only a phenom 2 cpu but i get around 50-60 fps on gtaV played on ultra in 1080p on a 50 inch, using DX11 on win10. I get lower fps if i play it on my win7 (DX10) on the same computer (i dual boot)
If you come back and like your own comment several years later, it’s actually a bit cool, and more like giving yourself a high-five.
Is this card better or worse than the msi gaming x? And can you change out the fans on the xfx one?
What did u found
iliass serrhini I got the msi one
@@joshburke8410 ohh that's great did u do some research about this xfx before you buy the msi one
iliass serrhini yes. you can change it the fans but the replacement ones are kind of expensive. I got the msi one because it looks better in my opinion and it was a little cheaper
@@joshburke8410 im good with a shitty fans but the problem is the performance and gaming probs too
currently have a 1050 ti. would it be wise to upgrade to a 580 even though its been 3-4 months with this 1050 ti?
+KvT Nah, wouldn't be wise, at least for gaming. 580's value/price is terrible at the moment. You'd be much better off with a 1060 6GB or even a cheap 1070.
a second hand 980Ti is the best bet ! even though consumes more power but it's as fast as a 1070 ! upgrading from 1050ti to rx580 is more like a sidegrade not an upgrade !
Does is still the best for minning?
Do i need the 8gb version cant i buy the 4gb ones
I have 400$ .which gpu should i buy? Pless help me bro😦😧😑.
Why my 580 only run 297/ms at 1445mhz
it gets even cooler lel
:D
But can we make it 20% cooler? XD
I have this card but stop working and I try now contact xfx for repair so far no luck and if not luck I will try repair myself :-)
What's the MH/s for this unit?
I have a Sapphire RX580 4GB, any advise how to overclock them to mine more effectively?
Ethan Yost goes down how?
Thats not always true
Plz Keep this type of information content coming,
I personally think the world needs more facts & less rants/fluff.
Just sayin...
can use 2 different GPU's in mining i have a rx 580 8gb and i saw last night a gtx 1060 3gb on sale!!!!
Wow...Good video
but my rx480 beat's this w/o a problem , since it has vram timing's moding+ a nzxt g12 +240aio on it runing @ 1450mhz , while not going over 50c :D
Of course if you watercool it & mod the timings, it's gonna have an advantage. Lemme do that to my 580 and we see who wins. :D
I also own an rx 480 the gtr from xfx,can you tell me what exactly does a modded bios on gpu change that you can't do with overclock?
+Andrei Oprea It tightens the RAM timings to allow for more efficient memory usage, not just faster.
you edit the bios , by taking the 1750mhz timing's and using them to the 2000mhz place , by doing that it will have higher bandwith , i noticed a 4fps increase w/o memory OC by doing that only , i get 84fps in RoTB benchmark 1080p VH with 1410 gpu(to be stable 24/7) and 2100vram , in 3d fire strike i get 15900 gpu score
Is it safe to do that?I'm interested :)how can i get that bios?
I have an xfx rx 580 and it's only hitting 22 Mh/s
There is a mining driver from amd that will bump you up to 24 I was mining for a month before i realized it. just google amd gpu mining driver
I got a bitcoin ad
how much can I earn with 480 gpu amd
Use a newer version of MSI afterburner
Hi, anyone has any idea if I can run this card with a quality 500w psu? Or do I have to have a 550w one, like the one xfx recommends?
get 600w for beeing sure and relaz
Why, if I can get 15 terahash asic for $5,000. It's way more cost effective.
Avery Kucan asics usually don’t last as long with the same profit margins and also don’t have much flexibility with coins that they can mine. gpus can still make a lot of money/price if u mine asic resistant coins, which make money from gpus
Hello, it's better GTS OC or GTR OC ?
GTR
Use GPU tweak
No longer profitable in ETH Mining. I run 24 gpu with 31mhs per card. Free electricity and air conditioning cos I work in Power Plant. I have everything for free, 5 big IT equipment rooms, 4x 10gb internet lines. And 1x 100gb lease line run for another 15 years as well.
My office got considerably few spacious free rack 42ues system. Just mining for fun and for test actually, bcos ppl outside thinking mining is profitable, and eager to do that, so I decided to do my own physical mining cos I dont mind losing USD20k just like that. Actually I have a spare of usd100k for the test. Afford to lose as well, yet hard to get those gpu lately, I stop buying the rest.
Should you thinking of start to physical mining, STOP IT BABY. Unless you are ready to lose like me. I can make usd20k from other way of project in 2-3 months. No sweat and harm to lose usd20k just like that.
killed it😜💰💰💰
why would you want a GPU for playing while you can put it to make money? I mean, i what world do u live in? in the world of I have my dad who pays me all my stuff or s...?
That stupid quack crap that nobody plays anyway I still never even looked for that quack pack they could of shaved off several 10s out I'd rather just have the card
Hiiiiiii, love the channel. Can you get me a wootware discount, I'm sorry😞, I just had to ask after all PC gaming is expensive as hell. Although we all know that awesome feeling of building a PC is totally worth the cost☺️.
The fastest RX 580 plus loudest and power consumption hungriest ;)
Definitely isn't the loudest. Much quieter than the Strix which I've also tested. Power consumption has to be high if you're using more MHz.
Just saying what you forgot ...he he he. I had the XFX 480 Black Edition the gpu was annoying loud plus i did not like the plastic (way too much for my taste) on the gpu. I´m more than happy with my Powercolor RX 580 Golden Sample :) Anyways great gpu´s if you are a amd fan!
+XxSwordfishxX I mentioned both the noise & power consumption. So not sure what you mean. Glad you're happy with the PowerColor card though.
300$ at best buy right now
I got it for 300 yay
me too yay. hooray for best buy
Where??
Randy Matheson - best buy
190 on newegg now lol
U can go to 9000

#sweetness
& I'm the only one who bought a brand new xfx rx580 8G gts xxx edition for $200 just weeks ago! xD
What? That's a great price! 1000% worth it then.
I hate u -_-
+Areeb Jamal You hate us cuz you ain't us.
You have no idea of the misery i had to go through because of this mining craze, i had a decent system built from scratch with a i5-7600k around May 2017, Sadly i didnt have enough money to buy a GTX-1060 so i waited and used my old GTX-650Ti for a while....Then hell happened. The country i live in is full of console users and the PC hardware demand was already so low, that a low end GTX-1060 cost $300 instead of $250. Even after the situation has stabilized the same fucking gigabyte windforce GTX-1060 is almost $350 now THE PRICES KEEPT ON INCREASING. Imagine 4 months of torture and waiting, I finally bought a used GTX 970 for about $170. I searched and searched every hardware store and event went as far as traveling to other cities to no avail. Online shopping here is retarded. When i see a comment like this it angers me how ppl got what they wanted at a price cheaper than MSRP. So dont tell me im not one of you, i have faced enough frustration than the 10 of you combined
+Areeb Jamal Bruh, twas a joke. I have sympathy for you. Considering after currency conversion a 1060 here in SA costs $350 as well, we're in the same boat.
Do you ever breathe? Sounds like one long word.
Your just asking for hate...
+Transistor Express for why?
I dont hate you or anything, i just think that by introducing these cards to cryto currency will cause alot of gamers to dislike your idea of it.
my 290x died today winforce :( mineing
:p
