Personally I would NEVER use a 10 year old Chinese power supply to mine with. Those power supplies are almost always pieces of absolute crap. Not worth the risk of a fire, and they will probably be like 60-70% efficient. Buy a decent EVGA 500 watt unit on Amazon for $30, save yourself money in the long term, and maybe even save your house.

RandoCrypto *All* power supplies are Chinese. *ALL OF THEM* are made in China. Corsair and XFX too. I have rigs with brandless psu's that work since 2014. Also, two xw6600 that crunch away with their original 2008 parts.
usb asic here.. 23 giga hash per 3 watts... it earns 4 cents a day, so I now this rig is nowhere near profitable.. probably paying more for power then its mining any coin giving the fact the online profitable card nowadays is a gtx 1050 and up (rx 560 equivelent)
When I finally found the 3rd GPU, and in the end didn't manage to buy it, my wife was actually quite bummed by it. Truth be told, the moment I get that card, the rig is going to leave our apartment, so I think that was the reason she wasn't happy. Still, mining with 2 R9 380s in an open air frame, on a dining table, in a studio apartment without her complaining too much :)

I'm new to this and I have a question. I noticed that old power supplies seem to have lots of connections to the motherboard with smaller wires for Stuff other than the CPU and ATX motherboard connection. Newer power supplies don't come with the smaller wires. So do you just not connect these other wires?

They aren't viruses. Your anti virus software will flag ALL mining software. Since mining can eventually damage your hardware, i think that's likely why it gets flagged.
If you run LGA775 Motherboard with more then 4gb of ddr2 you can run windows 10 no problem, if you run a core 2 quad like the q6600 you will get over 20h/s on XMG and if you run say GTX 750Ti you will get 200h/s on monero.. for say $250 USD you could have a rig that will make $10 USD a day

I know this is a late reply but I think you could CPU mine with the RandomX algorithm. You may have to load a better/less strick OS on it as I'm not sure if there mining software for macs, I think it's just Linux and windows that has mining software (don't quote me on that) CPU mining is likely to hardly bring in any profit though

pctech of 28 years experience... if your pc is anything but a newer system you will make Nothing, and pay a lot for the power it took. example.. say your 10 year old cpu ( JUST.. the cpu... not the motherboard or other power suckers) does a whole 3 hashes per second, and you use 75 watts an hour doing it,.. ALL calculators say you will earn nothing for money, and you will pay your electricity provider say 5 cents a kilowatt hour (really cheap its 13 here) you pay 5 cents every 13 hours.. dont be surprised... I'm on an usb asic that does 23 million hash's a sec at only 2 or 3 watts an hour and this thing only earns 4 fuk'in cents a DAY.

If your going to run windows it needs a min of 4gb to run... if your Running DDR2 motherboard ram is cheap... this isnt a new concept BuriedOne has come up with ... he has stolen someone elses idea and trying to milk it

Ive been mining for over 4 years now... i run 10 rigs all with 5 gpu's per rigs, i run LGA 775 motherboards with Q6600's , i run R9 290's overclocked and under volted.. i get 31 mh/s per card minning ETH and pulling around 130 watts per card, ive just started to build up another 5 rigs running GTX 750 ti's that will be dedicated mining XMR each rig should be mining @1000h/s with a power draw of less then 400 watts
