The shear fact you didn't waste my time with a long intro or selling ad space to your sponsors earned you a sub. But also because I agreed with your tips.
I was at Lowe's a few days ago and noticed the mini spreader had new wheels that looked solid. It's about time they fixed this issue. I can't imagine the amount of seed and fertilizer wasted over the years.
After watching this video I ran out to the garage to examine the wheels on my spreader. I really couldn’t justify getting a new spreader in the past as it seemed to work just fine but I think you just gave me a good reason to buy-I mean invest in a new tool 👌😗
One of my best contributions as a pharmacist at a local big box store was counseling someone, not on a medication, but rather to get that Scott's spreader out of their cart ASAP! I always told people that the garden center was the only other department I was qualified to run. PS- nice thumbnail pic!
Haha that's awesome. They probably looked at you like you were crazy at first 😂 I appreciate you letting my use your lawn in the thumbnail. Definitely thumbnail worthy!!
Ha fellow pharmacists unite!! I’ve done the same thing at mine. Told them to go buy the hand operated spreader and my patient came back 2 weeks later and thanked me for the advice!
@@Verzula oh yeah, I use the Scott's Whirl handheld. I don't mess with the push/broadcast spreaders. I've put down an application of 100 lbs of product using the handheld spreader (which means I filled it up close to 20 times), great forearm workout!
Fellow Minnesotan here! Thank you so much for this! I started a new job as a building caretaker and I appreciate you so much for this! I’m SO happy to hear that I can place seeds down during this season! I can’t wait to start today
I'm not even a minute in and yes... guilty of using the scotts speader and literally had lines all through my yard last year. So embarrassing!! Switched to the echo speader and we love it! Haven't had lines since. That thing throws like a beast too.. sometimes too much!
Haha. Yeah people live and learn real quick with those Scott's edgers. At least you figured it out and got it taken care of right away! Thanks for always watching Kelly!
I have the Scotts Edgeguard and I have never had this problem. I bought mine about 12-13 years ago. I have a brand new house with a gorgeous Bermuda mowed at a #1. 🤷🏻♂️
I'm glad it's working out for you. A lot of other people not so much. Just Google "Scott's spreader stripes" once and you'd be surprised at how many people have issues with it.
Man I’m from Minnesota as well! My yard is absolutely roached it’s got tons of random weeds growing in it and some sod the city put down when they re did the road is like dead lol I’m gonna try everything you have said in your videos to try and get this yard looking right!
These are great tips. Now I can't do my video on beginner tips. I swear, you and YB are one step ahead of me every time😂😂 I'm still gonna make one😂😂 Great video as always 💪🏾
Definitely can still make one! I'm not the first to make a beginner tips video 😂 thanks for watching bro! The weather has been shit here. Not even close to a first mow yet 😡
As someone that loves lawn care (certainly not a pro but know more than the average person) I really appreciate your straight forward tell it like you see it style. I have one question: Where would you recommend buying seed?
My guy 😊🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 Love the educational vids Jesse… and I never knew about the burns from the spreader! That was new news to me thank you! This my friend is a banger… and not just cause I’m in it 😂😂😂😊🤙🏾🔥🙏🏾👊🏾
I have a Red Devil spreader from sometime in the 80's. Throws mostly to the left, but works like a champ. It's not huge like these new rigs that take up a bunch of space. I can adjust flow based on how many passes I want to make and prill size. No settings on the machine, but a scratch where I like it set for Milo and can adjust from there for other products or seed.
Could u give us some schedules or make a video about, when to use what type of fertilizer on cool season grass. So much info out there and all different impossible to figure it out what type of fertilizer to use in what type of season. Slow release spring? Fast release summer and fall? What should be the NPK ratio for each of those seasons? Love your videos learning a ton!!!
I know this is an old video but just in case youre still checking comments... 2 questions; 1) I live in the suburbs of the SF Bay & the summers here hit 110+ on peak summer days. I' going to reno my front yard this fall. I'm on the fence between KBG & Tall Fescue. I like the look of the KBG but I'm worried i wont be able to keep it from going dormant in the summer. B) I reno-ed my back yard last year as a N00b used JG Black Beauty Ultra. I'm not unhappy with it as its miles better than the scorched earth it was, but now I have Fomo over elite cultivars. Am I making more out of that than I need to or should I just blow it out again (or maybe overseed) & replace with top quality seed when i do the front this fall?
Thank you for that tip on scotts spreaders, doing more damage than good, seems like an intentional set back from the company, for more sells to repair the damage 🤔. Fully subscribed behind that nugget of information.
Straight to the point. Thanks for the tips. I live in Minnesota and I want to seed my yard because I have a lot of brown grass. I was going to seed any these days, but I will wait till fall
Thanks. I'm also in Minnesota. Let me know if you have any questions once spring actually gets started. I feel like we're still a month away before everything really starts to get growing.
Hi. Thanks for the great info. I have a question, how can I bring back my lawn back from over fertilizing? It’s all brown in many spots. I live in northern NJ. Thanks.
Hi at lawn life, great video. I’m a beginner looking to cut the cost of paying for all them fertilizer, grub and insect control, fleas and ticks control services. You mention the Scott’s 4 step fertilizer, i did looked it up in Home Depot and they include some insect control. Two questions, 1. Is that 4 step all I’ll need to cover insects, grub, fleas and ticks? 2. While using the scotts 4 step can I still use the milorganite? Thank you sir
My town's land fill composts collected leaves and grass clippings all year round and offers the compost free to all local residents. Compost acts like a slow release fertilizer similar to Milorganite. I highly recommend it to improve your soil quality because it is free and effective.
Nooo. If you have a small amount of it, kill it off now. if you're infested, just mentally prepare to live with it. I have it in my backyard and there's no getting rid of it unless I renovate. It drives me insane.
Great video! I am in Minnesota, (north metro)! Looking to use that scotts early spring preemergent fertilizer. When should apply it? Also do you have a budget spreader recommendation? My lawn is about 19,000sq ft. Thanks!
New to the channel! 👌🏼 having trouble with my yard and been putting back breaking work in day in and day out. Just curious what the sprinkler heads are at 4:42 they look very similar to mine but I do not have that same pressure and wonder if that may be a problem with my watering?
You can change your output by changing the nozzles in them. You can also screw down the screw to change the spray pattern. Watch my video titled "why do I have dead spots in the same spot every year" I talk about the spray pattern in that video. If it's a pressure problem, I'm not sure what to do about that honestly I have hunter heads btw

Dealing with a bad weed problem, Ivy, Creeping Char., Dands, Crabs, Cloves, and others. Any advice for product, application, time of year, temp, ect. for a complete lawn noob.
That's the best advice for the spreaders- it's a tool- spend a bit more and get a professional spreader- which will be a life long tool that will last you for as long as you are a home owner. And don't ever use it for salt spreading.
If you have a hollow wheel spreader, I wonder if you gorilla tape the inside of the wheels to block access for the falling fertilizer. Yes - it will look weird, but maybe it's worth it for the more budget option over full plastic/rubber.
I was wondering that too. I have a Scott’s one and it’s been leaving chunky lawn stripes. I don’t wanna spend $200 on a new one so was thinking of doing something like this
I have not. The window was too small to apply. Don't worry if you didn't, everything will be fine. I put pre-em down on my neighbors lawn about a month after I should've and they still ended up with zero crabgrass. We're good 😎
I saw the text about recovering from snow mold. Could you share what your recovery plan is? Mine looks the same. Raked it out, watered, it’s not greening up enough.

My understanding is that Scotts updated the design to change how the seeds are distributed to prevent the issue mentioned here.

Scott’s Turf Builder DLX, with the honeycomb wheels is terrible, it left burn stripes on my lawn as the wheels filled up with fertilizer.
