  • Do you want to start your own business, but aren’t sure how to do it right? Getting a mentor to guide you can be a huge help. Nic Reed’s mentor Mike Andes is teaching him how to start a lawn care business, and he’s sharing his lawn care business tips with us in this video.
    Nic made a smart pick choosing Mike as his mentor. Mike paid his way through college mowing lawns, then used that experience to start a landscaping business after he earned his MBA. Today, he helps other business owners succeed through his work as a consultant and his podcast, Business Bootcamp.
    A lawn care business is a great choice for a first-time entrepreneur because you don’t need a ton of money or experience to get started. A lawn care business start up has a high revenue potential, too.
    Nic’s goal is to reach $160K in revenue in his first year. In this interview, we’ll learn how he plans to market his new lawn mowing business and build his client list to hit that benchmark.
    There are a lot of steps to opening any successful business. We’ll walk through them with Mike and Nic and find out which step they’re on. Part of starting a lawn care business is getting the right equipment to do the job. In this video, we’ll find out which tools Mike recommends and how to source them to get both quality and a fair price.
    If you’ve ever wondered how to start a landscaping business, you’ll definitely want to check out this video and keep an eye out for updates as we follow along with Nic’s progress.

    Most people can start with a good push mower weed eater and a leaf lower. I bought a toro push mower from Tractor supply for $500, Poulan pro leaf blower from tractor supply for $99 and a Husqvarna weedeater from a dealership for $300. Say trimmer line, gas cans, gas and oil for $100 total. I already had a pick up truck. About 1000 bucks is a good start. The hardest part (which really isn't hard) is going out and looking for yards. I did ol fashioned door to door and it seemed to work well. Just don't get discouraged when they say "no, I don't need you to cut my lawn." All of this extra stuff in the vid is great. But I would advise starting off on your own 1st.

    • @rjskum688
      @rjskum688 3 года назад +18

      Make sure what ever brand you buy can be services locally. So if you buy a toro mower, make sure there is a toro dealer nearby that can service it when something breaks down or goes wrong.

What I've done to improve myself in my business is to take the ideas or little tricks or different methods of doing things paying attention to the small details of how stuff to organize being the trailer everything is about saving time which saves money and applying that to your business. The man the myth the legend! Keith Kalfas!!!!!!!

    • @BeeDedicated
      @BeeDedicated 2 года назад

      Keith Kalfas, I listened to your book as well as Mike's. I started in lawn care, or more specifically, mowing, as an 8 year old. By the time I was 18, I had to choose between playing ball in college or pursuing my 6 figure business in a less than ideal market. I left the business behind. Fast forward 19 years and this past spring, I'm standing on my lawn when one of the three biggest names in my current city drove by and stopped. He got out and said, "man, I don't know what you know, but this is the best lawn by far in the entire area." Exactly one day later, another of the big 3 stopped and said, "how the hell do you do that?" Finally, two weeks later, the third pulls up, gets out and said, "do you mind if I walk on it?" Of course I said "go right ahead". He took his boots and socks off and walked around for 5 minutes. At that point, I went to "80% go". I own 4 other businesses, so I am no stranger to systems, procedures and time management. After some calculation, I began structuring my business. I added 134 accounts within the first month and expanded my services slightly. I now have an additional 300 on the books for fall and spring service. So, I can't say exactly how motivational the shade tree conversation in your book was, or Mike's book was for that matter because I was committed before I listened, but you guys were a confidence booster, and I appreciate you for that.

    Essentially what Mike is doing is taking the idea for what McDonald's has done to the food service industry and applying it to Landscaping. Making things simple less-skilled less personal which in terms will increase profit but it's a customer service industry and for me there's nothing better than at the end of the day when you trim this little old ladies bushes and and she was so nervous cuz she had the same guy doing her bushes for 30 years and then you come in and do it better and she's just so happy you made her year by making her yard look better that's what it's about. And of course making some money. I'm in no way trying to hate on Mike because he does on for a lot of good advice and does want others to succeed which is commendable and I respect him for that but if you're just starting out your business doesn't have to be Augusta for you to be very successful and happy

There's nothing wrong with doing what a guy like Florida Turf Pro has done and grows business to the point where makes him a good living he's happy comfortable in the business can almost run itself cuz you have good guys. People need to realize they don't need to have a million accounts in 2 million dollars in Revenue to be happy.
