This is the only cooking show I know of where you will truly take the chance of utterly failing. And I commend that.
This feels so much safer than Hells Kitchen, even when getting served fish that is far, far from bone-free.
I saw an episode of Chopped where one of the ingredients was eel blood and one of the contestants just added it at the last minute without cooking it. He found out that eel blood is poisonous unless cooked so the judges couldn’t eat his food.
@@kenlangston3451 That seems like an insane choice by the producers lol
It proves to me that they aren’t lying on GMM about how some of the obscure food is great while other dishes are detestable and can’t be saved.
I highly suggest the pass it on challenge by sorted food there super fun
Josh must be the worst serial killer, if he constantly almost-kills people.
haha attempted serial killer.. Never quite follows thru
If there was a bronze medal in murder, Josh would have a room full of them by now.
No, no no....he's not a serial killer...he's a sadist. Killing his victim would end their suffering.😈🤡
he may one day become a cereal killer
The Horribly Slow Murderer with the Extremely Inefficient Weapon!
Josh *could* practice these recipes but he keeps it in the Josh spirit and just wings it
This comment highlights a missed pun opportunity in the first course, and now I'm disappointed.
@@cryssiLOVE this was also my immediate thought!
But apparently his wings are the best bit so…
of course this is also why he fails :3
There’s a fine line between creative genius and insanity. Josh has erased this line.
Josh is like Trevor’s annoying older brother. “Smile, don’t make too much eye contact” 😂
Her good spirit and the fact that she kept eating makes me like her SO MUCH. She is the kind of guest Josh deserves.
She probably did it to look good on camera but likely didn't want to be there at all.
@@TheCatnipCinema thats what you call being professional
I honestly thought that when the title said 'critic almost dies' Josh would of accidentally added a known allergen of Jenn's (if she has any), I am simultaneously relieved and disappointed that Josh just made edible choking hazards. For goodness sake mythical kitchen production team, don't dangle death in front of us and then snatch it away. Kidding, kidding (mostly). Great episode
I was going to post essentially exactly this! Lol
I was so worried the chicken wings were raw
I like the way you wrote this it sounded nice in my head 👍🏼
I thought that Josh almost made her sick bc he didn't wash his hands 😂
🤨 welcome to the watch list
Josh: Don’t be grossed out this is a cooking show
Also Josh: If you come here for cooking tips, why?
Josh desperately seeking approval and Jenn humoring but not lying to him is so freaking funny to me. XD
The idea that the food critic is potentially/likely just off camera watching Josh go nuts on the dish they're about to eat makes everything 10x funnier.
I love how josh started fishing for compliments “well what about the sound”
I love when sometimes if Josh stands just right, his smock says thic chef. I suggest get one made that does say Thicc chef and have him change to it for random shots. Lol
I legit hope Josh finds a forever growing presence in food. Like I hope mythical kitchen never ends. His embrace of the adhd is so refreshing for someone who also has it in a pretty similar way. I'm constantly laughing and being wowed. It's tough sprucing up the things he consistently does. Love the whole crew at Mythical.
Also heavy adhd here. I think why I'm drawn to shows like Mythical Kitchen and Bon Appetit's 'Gourmet Makes', with characters like Josh and Claire, is that they're more interested in creativity and finicky detail work, than conventional cooking.
And the reason that he comes off so authentic, lovable and weirdly funny doing it, is because were getting a stream of his inner monologue, while he gets to experiment with his obsession. With (almost) no rules.
It's literally the prescription to have a good life with adhd :)
@@37thraven it's the best! Absolutely refreshing to see the way my own mind works be displayed and represented in a positive light. The whole crew is amazing but I gravitate towards Josh just a tad bit more. But yeah I absolutely agree with you!
@@themarchhare154 I get why a few ppl find him "too much", but let's be real, I probably wouldnt enjoy their judgy company irl, if they can't appreciate this wholesome buff nerdy hyper man 😂
@@37thraven big time facts 😂
@@themarchhare154 If u can, watch Nicole's new 'Meat Cute' ep, and check the comments for the literal opposite take 😅
Josh’s appreciation for south east asian cuisine and particularly Viet food is just so warming! I cannot express enough how exciting it is to see him know and love the food I grew up with!
In real time Josh de-boning the wings would've taken up the whole episode. His stream-of-consciousness narration would've made it entertaining, though
I would definitely watch that
I think mythical kitchen is so successful because we all love food and it’s the only cooking show that’s completely non-pretentious and just fun.
"Tactile Dexterity Is Waining" The quote that defines 95% of my nightly cooking
This is amazing. She's awesome. Not afraid to just tell it like it is
I would love to see redemption episodes where Josh uses the same mystery ingredients but tries to make better dishes.
the most incredible part of this series is that not only do you take a genuine chance of failing with each dish with each critic, but the fact that the dishes are hardly even practiced is truly a new level of unhinged that I cannot help but respect
“She’s the foremost fried chicken expert in a city of 14 million.”
**Keith Habersberger has entered the chat**
Keith and one or both of the Worth It guys +Jenn would make a badass fried chicken video. I feel like Keith and worth it folks are so used to being on camera they'd have good chemistry (after editing) and then Jenn would be keep the discussion food-critic-level.
@@organizerbmo Keith and Chris Reiancher, his friend who he did the annual fried chicken tastings with back at BF.
@@organizerbmo Steven did a fried chicken episode of Dish Granted for Keith, Jenn would be a great guest for him too
I have discovered that Takis make meat sticks of their own. You don’t get any spicy till about 30 seconds after you finish it and the flavor of lime and citric acid dies down. Right up your alley 🤣
Jenn was a great person to have on the show. More of her, please!
I’m so put off by “meat sleeve” lol. I love how well Josh takes criticism.
Giggity.
Not to be a bummer, but a lifetime with ADHD tends to train you to handle criticism.
His dirty puns are 10/10 tho **chef's kiss**
@@37thraven agreed, I openly accept criticism for the same reason.
josh- cooks michellin star level food
also josh- quotes Deuce Bigelow
I think this girl thinks 18 minutes is a short time to finish a meal
I’ve never in my life had a meal last longer than 4 minutes
this episode is a good example of "I only come here for the appetizers." 😂😂
When Josh said “you may be asking where the fish is” I thought he was about to make a fish out of Slim Jim.
Now I want to see Jenn debate Keith from the Try Guys on fried chicken knowledge.
Keith is the absolute only person I think of when someone says "fried chicken".
Goodness I love this show. So refreshing. It’s 2022. Out with severely curated perfection and videos edited beyond recognition, and in with realness. Also shoutout to this chick who really thought she was about to get jalapeño Slimjim PB&J ice cream as an appetizer 🤦🏻♀️
Love that josh put his chefs coat back on when they brought a critic in😂
Love seeing Josh and the blender’s relationship progress :)
josh's "bootleg caramel" is the first way i instinctively made caramel. i spread it on toast
You butchered my favorite filipino dessert. As a Filipino, I'm offended.
10/10 would eat again
Josh, I recommend you watch any video of "empanadas de platano" in order to do any dish with "bananas" like the one you use to day. it would be a really good aditament to your recipes
i would have boiled and drained the bananas first... then prob mashed them
I really liked this episode, all of the food critic people have been pretty chill but Jenn seems to be having a lot more fun than the others :D
Got to have as much fun as you can before you die.
Nah I think the Cap’n Crunch dude was just as fun
Meanwhile, in Asia, you can expect to pull about 50+ fish bones out of your teeth every time you have it.
Rsther than Carp, better order Gurame because it has less bones.
Unless it's a filet, I assume there are going to be bones and eat carefully
Yes, I've been told that if I were really Chinese (I wasn't the one who immigrated Dad!) that I would instinctively be able to sense and spit out the fish bones.
So hand be a burger.
yeah i had a rough time eating in Korea because they leave bones, cartilage, shells, heads, all kinds of stuff americans are used to having removed.
Beautifully shot and edited. Very entertaining, Great Job!
"What abaut the sound?"
See thats funny. Lol 😂👌🏼
The fact that josh knows what ไส้อั่ว is surprises me as a native Thai lmao. It’s not a very popular dish in the western world and it’s from Northern Thailand aswell !
No matter how your dishes turn out it's always a joy watching y'all 💙👏👏
Josh doesnt try the meal beforehand that seems dangerous
I've done a salt crusted red snapper before, but I put it in a casserole dish, the salt crust on top came off in one piece and everyone said "oooh."
I really love how much Josh reminds me of a real life Soma from Food Wars. Not necessarily in style but in willingness to completely go off the rails and experiment. Like I could 100% see Josh trying to make peanut butter squid happen and damn to the consequences
Well that was terrifying. Open video and josh says "hello maggie" 😂😂😂😂 thanks josh!!
I love that Josh is the only chef confident enough to invite food critics to his show for them to truly judge his food and he handles it with laughter and grace! Love this series!!
Josh displays great bravery and boldness in not bothering to try out the idea first before committing it to the plate.
Or maybe great stupidity and incompetence.
It's a tough call sometimes but either way it's immensely entertaining to watch.
So meat paste is typically called a "farce". Makes it a little funnier.
Second one, he should use fish fillets. Soaked the fillets with that blended spices and then grilled them.
aw i love her!! she seems like such a cool person, and i love this series too wahaha josh is such a fun guy to watch cook because you never know what’s going to come out of his brain and mouth.
also, i know the dessert didn’t taste very good but i just wanted to say that for turon they always cut the banana in half lengthwise so it’s not as hard and it gets cooked evenly.
@18:00 - “But if they averaged out you’re just whelmed!” - absolutely ruined me 😂
Ohhh, Also, any possibility of your podcast being filmed as well? The people over at 2nd try and then Rhett and Link have gotten me hooked on this filmed podcast thing, which is actually crazy-sounding, but for some personalities, I found I really appreciate being able to view it as well. I think Nicole and Josh and their fun banter would be amazing to watch!
The grandma cut only works because all their knives were last sharpened during the great depression.
The title suggest that instead of Link asking: Josh what did you do? , the police will be asking that.
"Eating is just a way to distract us from death, officers”
I would like a podcast of Josh just retelling fairytales. The way he talks is so relaxing to my brain 😂
I feel like Josh is just practicing for Chopped. Josh HAS to go on Chopped one day before Chopped is no longer a thing.
"For those of you who would come here for cooking tips... why?" XD Legendary Statement
"did you know wild fires travel faster uphill than downhill?" Yes, Josh. Turns out hot air goes up, not down.
That is a thing most people don’t think about, so it can still be like a fun fact.
Hence the C in class, lol that was the only thing he remembered
I love this lady. Please bring her back!
What an episode it always bogles my mind how you create such powerful dishes🤔🤯
Completely forgot about the title and just sat there watching Josh with a whole fish and my first thought was I wonder if he fully deboned that fish?
Slice the Saba bananas in half. That’s how it’s normally done in turon. I think it’s too dense to fully cook if cooked whole.
I love this series
This is probably the best series on this channel, maybe even RUclips.
i feel josh cooking for food critics is the new version of food fears cuz critics be shitting their pants with the weird things that josh might cook for them
Would love to see food critics taste the best dishes you guys have made, like orange chicken parm!
YES.
Definitely my favorite series on the channel!
11:16 in this instance we almost saw Josh stray from the light.
13:50 more on brand for Danny DeVito as the Penguin. Maybe that's what Josh was imagining? 🤣
Me in 1998: I hope I get a Nintendo 64 for Christmas!
My Grandpa in his recliner: Hoping doesn't steam the bananas.
Well, that was embarrassing. But that's exactly why I love this show. I honestly can't think of another show that does this, and that's actually really something special, in my opinion, because then when Josh DOES hit it off with a great "dish on a whim", it's all the more a beautiful moment.
Mythical kitchen should try give their spin on the Sorted's Pass it on. It'd be interesting to see what Josh, Trevor and Nicole would make..
9:37 *Keith taking notes*
Since Josh mention Macho Man, here is a sad fact. The day he passed, is the same day Slim Jim closed down the production plant in Tampa, FL.
How did Josh make it through an entire episode without using Slim Jims full name of "Slimothy Jimothy"......?
17:11 "Other than that, Mr. President, did you enjoy the play?"
I want to see an episode where josh just tries his best with what ever he wants no slim Jim’s or anything just josh showing his talent for cooking
I love how his critic videos always start amazing for the first course then it just goes way downhill further down each course
Fun fact, you can put whole garlic cloves in a garlic press and the garlic comes straight out leaving the skin still in the presser 👍
Josh definitely ate a banana right before adding the brown sugar to the butter.
Getting bones in fish that is supposed to be de-boned is one of my least fav dining inconveniences. But it is just that,
An inconvenience only.
Blendon Scallions is definitely something that someone who doesn't speak English would give to an American character in a story they were writing in the days before we could look up other culture's names on the internet.
"The Bucket List" where she reviews fried chicken.
I just subscribed.
Only have watched the food critic Jenn eat 1 course, but had to say, Love that shes in on the joke, not stuck up and full of herself, and just comes off as chill af. Not seeing many female food critics, its hard to picture one, so seeing someone that's NOT a stereotype, is nice, as nice as the guy from the magazine Josh worked on with was, he wasn't just the stereotype, I think he's who the stereotypes were built on, well, no French Accent, but still...
This would be the series to try and get Gordon on, impress him with 7/11 hot dogs.
I fking died laughing at the blender part around 6mins, LOL!
Imagine Hogging your Inbox so hard you see this video a minute after upload
This is the only show I've seen where the cook can both create a beautiful 5 🌟 meal, and make animal testicles edible, lmao
It is cowardly to puree these 'unusual' ingredients
"I should of cut the slim Jim's before i touched raw meat. SHEEEEEEEEEEEESH"
Random famous cook, crimea 1922
The backing track has the same drum pattern as Donell Jones' "U Know What's Up"
the most honest cooking show i have encountered so far
"Hoping doesn't steam the banana..." Amen!
I was half expecting her to pull a fish bone out of the dessert
The amount of cross-contamination in this video. Touching everything with those chicken hands.
can we get some episodes of this series with other chefs cooking for pro critics? i love josh, but the rest of the kitchen deserves a shot too.
Willie Mae's! I loooove their chicken. Anytime my friends and I are partying in the quarter, we stop there beforehand.
I love these videos, but I do also wonder how well their more pre-prepared recipes would do in front of food critics.
Cause right now it really seems like they're just kinda winging it and hoping for the best, and while that is entertaining, it also makes it a little hard to watch when a more experimental recipe goes horribly wrong.
This gave me anxiety because all three items are things that people are prone to choking on
Josh actually reminds of the dude that played Riddler in Gotham lmfao I can't unsee it
