- An easy step by step guide to help with checking and adjusting the valve clearances on the XR400.
It's exactly the same procedure with the XL/ XR250, just check the clearances in your manual first as the ones stated are for the XR400! Авто/Мото
Great video Magoo! Appreciate your time and efforts. Thank you!
Thank you for this video. Simple and helpful.
awesome but simple video mate, well done!
Thanks, I tried to make the video as easy and straight forward as I could. Hope it helps!
Can anyone tell me where they got the metric feeler gauges to do this? I can’t seem to find anything other than a .10mm and .127mm, but not a .12mm. Any suggestions?
Saludos desde Ecuador, el mismo reglaje es para la XR 250R??
but what size is the ring spanner?
Excellent.... Thank you...
make sure you're at TDC of the compression stroke not exhaust stroke.
John Fowler is cam lobes up or down
And how do you know if the TDC is exhaust or intake?
@@CharlesCarabott Put your finger over the spark plug hole when turning over the engine, you'll have air rushing out past your finger on the compression stroke
Filler mm is the same for Xr 185?
Are the Measurements all the same on 400R and 250's ?!!
will oil come spilling out when you remove the timing plug and central access plug?
+Kevin Hamilton No mate, Just make sure the engine is stone-cold before you start.
This will prevent temperature effecting the valve clearances and give the oil time to settle at the bottom of the engine.
You may aswell throw in an oil change while you're having a mess around though, its what keeps em alive! XD
If the bike is on its side stand it may particularly if it has ever been broken off and re-welded on at a lower lean angle than designed. Ask me how I know….. LOL. Try and do this work with the bike supported straight up and down.
On my bike the timing mark is aligned but I don’t have any slack in rocker arms?
Crank it over one further Revolution, and align back to the T.
This will mean you are at top dead centre
Okay, thanks for the quick response
would it work if you just tightened it up and then backed off a 1/4 turn? hrmm ...
Why not do it the way the service manual instructs you. It ain’t that hard
HI iv just got a Honda xr400 put ne spark plug in and clean carb bit still bog abit any Isea what it is thanks
Normal way to start is to pull the decomp lever in, fuel on, give it three big kicks with choke. Decomp off then crank it round to top dead centre, one last kick and it should start.
If that doesn't work after a couple tries check the jets aren't blocked in the carb. If it's a bike that's new to you check the jet sizes incase someone pissed around with them.
Hope this helps!
@@magoomagoon iv cleaned tge carb it was working fine znd just start bogging wen pull tge trottele back and just cut out any idea please
@@baztaz922 if it was running well before and is only now bogging it is usually an air / fuel issue. Just double check the jets are clean and gunk free. Inspect the throttle slide While you're in there and check wether the float level is set correctly and moving freely. Check the carb for air leaks and make sure any vent hoses are not kinked. May be worth inspecting the air filter too.
Hope you find the fault!
@@magoomagoon iv order a new a filter for it I have has tge bike for a while was run good then stared do tgat so took carb of cleaned and put new sparky in so gonna wait and see if it is the air filter thank for your help I'll let you now
@@baztaz922 what was the problem?
which is the intake and which is the exhaust? Sorry but my first attempt to this.
Robert MTL exhaust valves towards the front and intake valves the rear
Intake is the carburetor side and Exhaust is the exhaust pipe side.
We'll both of the answer down here are different so I don't know which one to trust
@@robertwilson7959 same answer actually if you go look at the bike and where the parts are located
what size ring spanner?
24mm
Whats a ring spanner? First time attempting this.
Its a box and open ended wrench.
Hahahaha omg 😆
Will it work on a 2001 Xr250r?
Nathaniel Dickinson yes it's the same principal, but you will need to check the clearance recommendations for your bike as these will differ from the XR4.
Magoo Magoon, ok tnx
I need 79Honda250xr
fuck me i need a beer now
