1997 Honda XR250r Valve Adjustment Job

This is how to adjust your valves on a Honda XR250r. If your bike is not starting or running right then chances are it's your valves. After I did the valve adjustment on this bike the bike fired right up with one kick and no choke. Awesome.

Nice, Just picked up a 96 xr250l with some noisy valves. This made things a lot easier than digging through the clymer manual.

Being a 4-stroke engine, it is not enough to align the TDC mark as shown, you have to make sure that all the valves are closed. You would know if it's the true TDC by slowly turning the crank back and forth with the T mark aligned. The valves should not move, if they do then turn the crank one full revolution.

I'm glad you added this comment. The piston has to be at the top of the compression stroke NOT the exhaust stroke or the valves will be under load and not loose.

Thanks for the helful video!! I finished my valve adjustment with the help of your video and the bike's manual and now my bike's exhasut valves click when I turn it on. Like rapid clicking when it opens and closes. I did loosen the decompressor cable but I put it back on and followed the manual for free play in it. Would anybody have any ideas on why my exhaust valves still click?

On my '97 xr I had oil pour out of the lower cover (where you turn the engine over). When I worked on my 1993 xr no oil came out of this cover. Which one should have had oil in it or is should the '97 have oil and not the '93?
