I am a firm believer that art should be personally satisfying. If your little Rembrandt spoke to you then that's all that matters. Don't feel like you have to have approval from others. Certainly has an old world vibe to it!❤
Wonderful haul Hilary! You always find the best things. I loved everything: the sweater, the blue and white pieces, the vases.😍Your wild card is amazing!! He hangs in the National Gallery in Washington D.C. If you and your family ever go to Washington, you should pay him a visit. That's King Wladyslaw IV Vasa of Poland and he is clothed in elk skin.
The portrait has a very dark academia feel to me. Would look great in a library or shelf with books and an old brass chamberstick in front. I love unique pieces.
I love the Polish nobleman! I have a Rembrandt print of a centurion that a dear friend watched me admire in an antique shop but couldn't afford the $15 decades ago. She secretly went back and bought it for me. Very special.
I have had that same pampered chef spatula for more than 10 years, and it's still going strong.

The original of that Rembrandt is in The National Gallery of Art! They say,
"The penetrating expression of A Polish Nobleman and the striking resemblance of the sitter’s features to Rembrandt’s, particularly in the area around the eyes and nose, make one wonder if this painting is not, in fact, a fanciful and liberally embellished self-portrait."

Hello from Poland😁! The Polish Nobleman, cool 😉😁. It may seem a little exotic for you. In our country such historical paintings are common in many places.
I would also keep it for the sake of the author himself. Classic.

I like the portrait and it will look perfect in your home, especially surrounded by all your decor. My feeling is that if the object "speaks" to you, purchase it. Trust your instinct.

Someone mentioned that whisk works well for eggs, which it does; it's also great for sauces and puddings as it keeps the bottom of the bowl/pan scraped so nothing sticks/burns.

The strawberry vases are darling and would make such cute lamps! My mom used to convert tins and vases into lamps all the time! As long as you love the portrait that’s all that matters 😊and gorgeous basket!!
The delft style bowl would be perfect for forcing flower bulbs for different seasons...it could sit by from door or on center of dining table.
My husband calls anything framed that is a person instant relatives. So tell me…if I buy pretty dishes to throw junk and stuff in my kids will quit telling me I have a problem? I throw things in butter tubs, sour cream tubs and lids of various sizes. I might have a problem but it sounds like you just gave me a solution!!!:):):)
Nice haul as usual, you always find such unique pieces. I like the portrait, I think he should be in your gallery area of the stairs to the basement. I agree with other comments, make up a story and give him a name. I really like the nut cracker, my favorite of this haul.
I have that whisk , sadly I discovered it while clearing out my late mother’s home.

I LOVE your Polish Nobleman. A random piece like that really livens things up and makes your style individual and unique. I live in an English terraced town cottage in Cornwall, which is down at the bottom end of the UK. It's very beaten up, tiny, nothing straight, beams on a low ceiling , long, thin space, I have a mish mash of things from Ikea to street finds but try to make it comfortable and a practical yet fun place to live. It's quite the challenge but it's just for me so I can do whatever I like, ha ha!

@@Anagrams458 Thank you, my favourite part atm is a fake rook (a black bird) that I have sitting on a real branch covered in moss and fire cones which is set across a small window. I have quite a few fake birds in unexpected places!

Great moustashe man painting...I would put it in basement barhroom and have a little shelf that displayed an old fashioned shaving lather brush, a moustashe comb and cup. Kind of "tongue in cheek" surprise.

I recognize that blue and white bowl…several years ago it was sold with an amaryllis bulb. I had a couple of them.
The whisk is great for beating eggs for scrambled eggs or French toast.
I work for an estate company and my best advice is to use the google lens feature on your phone to investigate pieces with missing or worn markings. You learn some amazing things!

Loooooove the basket, the pottery is so pretty, the painting definitely can fit in with your decor and I think the specific portrait is classic but the man quirky enough to be a REALLY fun surprise as guests go through your home and I’m sure he will make you smile when you pass during your day for years and years to come. I like the portrait a lot, but has autumn & winter vibes for me. Moody, darker colors. I'd pick a spot and have a floral ot landscape for spring/summer...then switch to dignitary for fall/winter.

That was a steal for the pampered chef mix and scrape. You are getting ping to love it. I have had mine for almost 20 years. It is still going strong. It scrapes your bowl clean. The Rembrandt is definitely a wild card. 😁
Love the portrait!! I would have paid $19 bucks for it! I do love a random portrait that brings individuality and character to a house!! I have a half bath where every wall is pretty much a gallery wall of random thrift portraits. Guests are always entertained by the 1/2 bath!😂

I was astounded by a toddlers pair of nikes for 50.99 at a goodwill, I'm almost certain those could be bought at a store for the same price. We all donate to goodwill for all to buy when they need a bargain(I like a bargain also) and this place is marking donations up so the people who have a strict budget can't afford it.
One of the thrift shop chains near me here in central Pennsylvania is called Jubilee Ministries. Their “ministry” is helping released prisoners get back on their feet,nice idea. However,their prices are so high sometimes that I feel like saying, “How about making it affordable for those of us who have never committed a crime?😵💫😖. 😅😂🤣
That and the fact the ceo has a salary of over a million dollars. We do not shop or donate anymore to Goodwill. There are so many more thrifts that are not corporately owned.

I have been blessed by the thrifting gods this week, I made out like a bandit, three skirts with tags on from loft, and INC, softest material with the little floral flowers on two, and the third skirt was black with tiers of ruffles also Loft.. $4.79 each I am set for summer skirts now, have been collecting them all spring… I now own 6 of them …I am obsessed with wearing them..I also bought two designer silk scarves for the fall…

There’s appears to be a chip on the rim of the planter but it could be something on the video. You should check out the prices on that painting of the nobleman. I think it’s awful but those prices online are shocking. Some are in the $100s, some in the $1000s. 😮
I love the white strawberry decorated vases. I have that exact large planter. It was part of a set of three. My son and his wife gave them to me many years ago. I love them they are always in style

I like your picture and love the frame except for the sponge painted finish you mentioned. I would repaint that part just a pretty gilt or gold leaf it.

Hi Hilary. The haul was great! The planter pot, the two strawberry vases and the pampered chef spatula were my favorites. You can actually use the spatula to cook as it is heat resistant. I have had it for years. They had a limited time edition with a burgundy head and that’s the one that I have. I think the painting is unique and in the right area in your home could be cool. 😊

I think that portrait piece is exactly the style you like and will go well in your home. But for me, in the kindest way possible😘, not my style😬. I do however have photos of great grandparents, grandparents, my parents from the 1940s era. It’s nice having them around me😍
