I just saw all the rot in the overhead at 5:00. I thought you two pretty much had all the rot ! I've done boat and aircraft restoration -- I would not fancy doing all the work to that overhead. God Bless you two! 12:00 Make a template out of sheets of cardboard. You can do it with a razor knife and straight edge ans tape the pieces together to form a 100% template quite easily. Well worth the time. In that case, measure once -- cut once... The quarterdeck is looking good. Hang in there and keep punching...
Like most people watching, I am in awe at the amount of work you have taken on. Thank you for your efforts to preserve our nation's heritage.
Cheers Mark, big job and many years ahead of us! But we will get there in the end!
I am in awe at the amount of work they have completed already in a relatively short time period... much beyond my expectations.
Amazing to think this vessel took part in D-Day. Can’t be many wooden vessels still around that were there in 1944.
just finished thumps up all videos . i no see but you guys are worth it ) god bless I'm sorry i miss out. one wet day i will watch all cache up. god bless you guys . mick Australia ) you guys are worth it. )god bless )
ps i watch from number one . but truly no time but thrum up helps god bless. )
Kudos to Robbo for all his “behind the scenes” work!
Robbo is awesome!
Hi Simon and Gemma, you now when your cutting of all them copper nails and what nots lol, why don't you either melt the copper down and make an exclusive model boat or statue that you can auction off to help pay for the rebuild lol or make a Ship Happens medal or a badge but only with genuine copper from the boat. love the show guys but have you ever thought of when you will be ship worthy to sail or when will you ever finish the rebuild, 5 7 10 ,15 years time or is this just your life time hobby together. Next time I'm back over there I'll get in touch and if you need something painting or sanding I'll put my hand up for it ok . Keep up the good work you guys .
Moist Bilge ? Never doubted it Gemma !! Yet another cracking episode folks.
Gemma, great attention to detail.. nice plumbers "-----" Simon..
Love the show and the humor . You Brits say " Crack on " , then Simon bent over and we actually saw what you meant 🙂 Keep up the amazing work ☮
🍑🤣
Love the t-shirt robby,, and the one Gemma bought you too mate 👍
Another great vid folks, well done for doing that little bit more
Two priceless announcements from Gemma - "I'm hot" and "My bilge is moist".
That is in addition to the usual painting, cutting and possibly making progress?
Look natural she says........in front of 60 odd thousand people 🙈. Was great being able to spend some time there again, you've done so much work in 2 months!!
What a chillaxed episode! BTW I am amazed at just how OK the hull is. See you next time!
Coming along nicely , you've got a real gem ,, and a beautiful boat ! That goes for both of you. ALOHA
You don't get many friends like Robbo!
Very true!
"Paint is like make-up on an ugly bird", my sides are aching. The hull in that section is looking fantastic and if the deck above turns out as good as the upper deck has that must give you a lift and a sense of pride. I know it would me. Keep up the great work. My daughter is a Gemma and I cringe every time someone call you Gem. 😄
Such an inspiration. I'm painting a 38' ferro sloop and I think I've got problems. All I need to do watch yous in action and your colossal project and my project seems so much easier.
Yeah I prefer you at the boat as well bud, thank God you got a Robert seems like a great lad. Cheers Simon.
It’s looking great. Such vast space to repair and paint nice work
Great to have help, stay positive and keep going, thanks
G'day Robbo, nice ta seeya. Its always busy work that get in the rode of fun work. Nice 1 m8s thanks. heaps

All jobs lead to the end result, thanks for sharing.
You have come a long long way..sooner than later, your haul is done.
Incredible work by the way...Keep at it..
Dig in...Be proud of your work..
Thanks Robert! It doesn't feel like we have done much, but then when we look back to the beginning it's amazing really!
@@ShipHappensUK
Yes for sure
Soon enough just maybe, you find something close enough to home and put it on the hard .
And make some extensive gains,
Relatively faster..
Haha love Robbos T Shirt
Best entertainment on small screen. Regards from Lancaster 🥊
Cheers Simon! X
Hi guys I just love your enthusiasm it’s like you don’t take the foot off the pedal You are still full on to restore this boat and I just love it so much keep up the good work love you video Cliff from Logan city Queensland Australia from the big island ❤❤❤😊😊😊
The foot won't come off the pedal until we are finished!!! We are determined people!!!
Ever little helps to achieve the end goal
I was waiting for you to say you had to clean up the mess Simon made with his caulk. Lol
Spend my life cleaning up after him 🤣
That’s what she said.
She is looking great and I’m glad I found your channel.
I'm glad your here! X
You should get a airless spray for painting it will speed the process up and will coat more evenly in few coats
Yer doin REALLY well...👏
Looks so good
looking Shipshape
Thanks for a great video, lots of laughter a great indicator that things are going good but not necessarily in the way that you wanted. This methinks is the best way to handle whatever the universe throws at you. More power to you all!
oooh i so miss using words like Minging and Gopping ! - i'm with you Gemma, love restoration, and repainting stuff to look all fresh again, its almost the icing on the cake - actually the icing on the cake is meeting the people who built things, worked on them and used in battle etc
now you see my logic is this - i see that finished bow end, all looking nice, you need more floor space, so you put down some floor panels, great - i see all them stringers? (the horizontal ones, yes) doing nothing, you could add some temporary shelves across the end from port to starboard side giving you even more space, then when you don't need them, pull them out, you could even add a longer one to give you a temporary bench, how you like that for an idea
Adding the extra supports is definitely a good idea! Enjoying your progress
You are going to be doing a lot of painting, have you considered airless spray gun/system specially when you do the outside, you could probably hire one rather than buy, a small hand held for inside, a larger unit for outside, perhaps the paint system you use is not recommended for airless, but if it is the time saving is massive.
Have you guys heard of workaday?
You can sponsor travellers with all sorts of experience by putting them up and feeding them for a place to stay and they work for 20 hrs a week.. you can stipulate you want them for short medium or long term. It's a volunteer program
Looking great, ship does happen 😉
Getting there one bite at a time!
You two are really the winning team 🙂 top content again 😎❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks Peter x
I noticed that those ships was all had there difference configurations when it came to armament . As you was saying your engine supports run 3/4 of the length of the ship witch makes sense if she had the larger gun mounted on her deck .
Sarinda seems to keep a dry bilge compared to the footage we've seen from Medusa, which is interesting. It could just be because Sarinda isn't always afloat while Medusa is. An old wooden hull without a skin, such as fibreglass, is bound to have at least some water intrusion. About the only way to stop it would be to haul her out and let her dry for a few months and then skin her and I'm pretty sure you know what that would be like.
If you're going to feed Wonky, then swing by Tesco or somewhere and get him/her some prawns, fish or calamari as the chips etc won't be very good for him/her.
Working on an old hull can be a nightmare of effort compared to a new build, but working from the inside out can have its own advantages as you've seen with the weather delays.
The coat of paint over sections you've 'completed' should be a morale booster, because you can actually gauge your progress. Initially you'll feel like you're not getting anywhere, but if you go back over older photos and videos you'll see huge changes.
Well done team!
Have to say Robbo a fantastic asset to Sarindra an you both,
He is a trooper!
@@ShipHappensUK don't forget give Ribbo a good cabin onboard looking forward to more episodes all.
HAHAHA! your foot "accidentally" pushed the floorboard right into place when Gemma left... 🤔👍 Really like your pet seagull's name!
No it was gemmas foot when she turned around! Not sure if it will come back out like!!
@@ShipHappensUK hahaha, I'm sure it will with a little persuasion!
Loving this series, nowt but respect for you both and all your helpers👍👍🏴
Invest in a Titan paint sprayer guys. Reasonably cheap and good bit of kit. Just a suggestion lol as I bought one and havnt regretted it
Full of admiration. Watched every episode and always look forward to the next. I like your real world solutions and hope you appreciate and enjoy these times and not just look forward to the finished product. Can we have a sketch (nothing fancy) showing frame progress please? The very best to you and your helpers.
I am in AWE of what you have taken on, and everything that it requires!! Congrats!!
Thanks Earl, hard work but we are loving it!
It sure was Sarinda lucky day when the two of you took her on it’s been great watching all you have done so far 👍
Thanks Alan, getting there 1 frame at a time!
Looking good keep up the fantastic vlogs
It's coming along little by little. She's going to be a beauty when you are finished. Thanks again for keeping us entertained!
скоро 100 эпизод надеюсь что то необычное покажите))))
12/11/2022 Hello ship. Second thought. Perhaps you could place some ship hammocks across the bow areas. I believe I saw some on another video while you were on tour of a similar ship? I saw some in the engine room also but yours is a bit too small but maybe. It would show how some sailors and soldiers slept in shifts when she was in service. Just a thought. Seeing simon standing on the new floor, the renovated and repaired area space behind him reminded me of the tour of another ship. DId she bear the same military designation number?Again stay safe, and happy. You have finished an area from bulkhead to bulkhead. Great success. Don. usa
LOOKS GOOD KIDS 😊😊
Thanks guys, another great episode
Cheers Richard!
What a difference a coat of paint makes 👌
Amazing work from all the team and every day you are making progress. Can only admire your effort and endeavour on such a worthwhile cause of saving Sarinda 👍👍👍
Always great to see yall and the progress ya makin.
Keep slapping paint on, it makes it look better and easier to clean. Well done.
About the floor fitting, always remember the diagonal will be longer. Merely level the board for its shortest aspect. You are number uno on my list if I ever decide I can afford Patronage!
THe only way to ensure you Hoover is always ready for a good suck is to keep after the filter. However often you think you should change or clean it - do it twice in that period. And when you're doing really heavy cleanup - you may need to clean it twice a shift. Vac performance is all about a clean filter - no matter the brand :)
Great video thank from sharing keep the great work all 👍
Thanks Garry x
You guys have a great channel. And everything is always fun and entertaining. Today, I just don't know what to say About the title to this episode. Very entertaining.
I really struggle coming up with titles!!
It's a flashlight not a torch! LOL
coming along very nicely
good vid on channel thanks lee
Thanks Lee, hope your well! X
Great work Gem Simon & Robbo.
@11:54 wow that rain is coming down good.
It was terrible that day!
“I have a moist bilge”…. OoooooonMatron …. If your of a certain age you’ll know 😜
🤣🤣🤣
Here's a question........you're regularly coming across lengths of rotten wood on the inside, how come the wood of the hull that's attached to the same bits of wood don't suffer the same fate? Having got this far, would you now have a rough idea of a timescale and at what point would you be taking her out of the water?
Well done
Thanks Brad x
Bet that paint smells nice aswell
Why is Robbo painting the roof? Isn’t all that wood being replaced ? That’s the roof area behind the fly bridge which I thought was rotten?
Keep up the great work
Get that ship out of that place, get it up and refinish all that rotten wood
12/11/2022 Hello Ship. I am having a hard time adjusting to the bow work inside. It looks as good as a modern war ship with a lot of seamen with paint brushes trying to stay ahead of the rust and blistering paint. Some people said that their time on the paint brush was because of some behavior problem. A frieend of mine deliberately spilled a bucket of pain on the advice of an old salt. Master asked why and fy friend being stupid said that he did not want to work in the bulkhead of a double hull war ship. so the master placed him on another area to paint. That was on a bosens chair over the side to paint. Girl you surely have pulled your part in this project. Cleaning everything. Sometimes I think that you should stop more often, then I realize that it takes some time to make. You get your rest somewhat. SImon seldomly showes tiredness or stress. He must surely be tired also occasionally. My body could not hold up to this work or the pace. Best wishes for you guys 1 month ago. Don usa
The guys at Tally Ho make patterns using 3mm ply with strips that follow ribs shapes stuck on with hot melt or super glue. Simply trace the shape onto marine ply and you’ll have. (near) perfect fit.
You mentioned a 2nd coat of paint does that mean you are going to remove the ballast again !
You need a newmatic it's the maker of the Henry but it's a valuating one it has twin 500 w mother's and it's a wet vac perfect for the job
It is well pass the time to buy a Wagner paint sprayer. It is fast , gets the paint in tight places. Easy clean up. You can put down two coats faster then one brush coat.
Moist? ooh-err missus! Great work, carry on!
Lovely pair. Gemma is there to help Simon get his wood bit inserted properly, and Simon is always there willing to dive into Gemmas moist bilge and apply a bit of love until Gemma is satisfied. Lol
Spent all day handling his hardwood 😉🤣
@@ShipHappensUK I've seen you gently guiding those oak solid bits into place while he takes instruction on how hard to pound it in. Regular ship repair porn it is!
sealing in moisture by painting.. crazy .. get a moisture meter .. i bet the timbers are sodden inside
Nice gloves.
Hope your using 2 part paint. I've tried the one part polyurathane, and it's crap, especially if it's exposed to water.
Just wondering if Wonky is your answer to Poncho? Sarinda is coming along great.
Have you thought about epoxying the bilge to protect the wood
I figure your probably all doing it but if your not, take your used oscillating blades and grind them to a sharp edge . Works great for cleaning out old caulking and other stuff too.
Great idea! 👍
How did the wind generator hold up?
"She just kicked it and it fell in... " percussive engineering to the rescue..
Just switched the camera off, couldn't believe when it just fell in!
I know that it would be expensive and a lot of extra work, but could you throw down some epoxy resin across the deck to seal all the holes? Probably dont need the cloth just enough to seal it temporary
It would take more than epoxy to fill the holes! But we will be refreshing the sheeting before winter
Now that you have a floor in your forepeak, i think you should bring in a band and have a proper dance.
Still amazes me how you two started out looking like you made the biggest mistake buying that boat. But Oh No. Sarinda has been resurrected
👍🏼
could you apply for funding from historical boat organisations or grant schemes off the government to help?
They don't give grants for privately owned vessels x
I think they have a powder for Moist Bilge at the pharmacy. lol
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Love moist …. 😂
