I love hearing David Oistrakh play Bach's concertos. I prefer his playing of Bach's pieces more than any other violinist. The Adagio in this concerto is divine. How I wish I could sit next to Bach when he was composing it. How I wish I could know what he felt and thought when he wrote this heavenly music.
Brilliant performance!! Scintillating. Vibrant. Adagio: filled with his radiant tone, beautiful dynamic contrasts and precise, delicate ornamentation. Bach deserves nothing but the best -- the extraordinary -- and Oistrakh delivers a fully-fleshed, stellar performance. Bravo! Bravo!
The opening Allegro is perfectly wonderful. The choice of tempo allows Oistrakh space enough to create deep, centered and beautiful music. One gorgeous phrase after another fills our hearts and ears. The attunement of orchestra and soloist is outstanding throughout the entire Concerto. The Adagio sings to my innermost being. The strength and sweetness of his tone is wonderfully intense but never cloying nor distorted. All-encompassing. Pure. Simply gorgeous. The closing Allegro is a great summation of a spectacular performance.
Bright 'singing' violins, crisp clear sound for a '56 LP. This is my absolute favorite Bach Violin Concerto. Ormandy & the Philadelphia Orchestra at their peak. This is so beautiful.
the E major violin concerto with David Oistrakh, Happy Birthday J S Bach, your music is Celestial, nad Oistrakh's version some of the most beautiful ones.
We used to listen to this and other classics for breakfast on Sun. mornings, what nice memories! Grow up with it and you really love it. Decades later I end up listening to mostly classical music, unless my cool jazz, rock n roll friends come over.
I have never heard a better performance of this. His pacing, phrasing are fabulous. Perfect intonation. How about 16:42 in the last movement. Wow does that dance!
Wonderful - this and Grumiaux are for me unmatched performances. Though modern ones with better recording yield up more detail, they somehow aren't as satisfying. Thank You.
It's wonderful, one of my absolute favorite pieces of music played by very favorite violinist. Thank you, davidhertzberg! If I may ask, is there a slightly better reproduction (technically)? Isn't there a performance of the same by Oistrakh on Deutsche Grammaphon (from the seventies)?

Great performance. And I love the pic of the old-school Columbia label.

Maravillosa interpretación del LEGENDARIO VIOLINISTA DAVID OISTRAKH . Bravo

The most sincere and touching performance of this concerto I've ever heard.
The best violinist ever heard

Thanks for your nice comment. Are you perhaps related to the conductor Paul Paray?
the E major violin concerto with David Oistrakh, Happy Birthday J S Bach, your music is Celestial, nad Oistrakh's version some of the most beautiful ones.
To say I enjoyed this excellent performance spoils what I really felt while listening.
My favourite violin concerto. This performance doesn't feel "rushed", as some do. Brilliant ... Exquisite.
Both Bach and Oistrakh were genious.

Great! The hit of XVII Century!
And has become immortalized.
So beautiful. Amazing performance.
Listening to Messr. Oistrakh is always a transformative experience. Bravo, bravo, bravo!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Thank you very much for sharing this treasure!
My pleasure, thanks for your note.
This is truly a valuable performance. Thanks for making it available.
A superb performance of one of my favourite violin concertos! Don’t appreciate the ads in the middle of gorgeous slow movement!!🌺🌹🦋🎻🎵🎶🎹💜❄️🌸🌞🦟😀👍💐
Understood... unfortunately the greed of large music companies is bottomless.
Magnificent. Thank you.
Thanks for this video!

A lot of outdated glissandi in the Andante, but what an intensity and how well the musical line is conducted....
yes, we say Oistrakh and mean Bach... thank you
So very satisfying ~ thank you!
The 2nd movement is BY FAR the best part of the whole piece. C# minor is the best.
Excellent show!
