Siwoo! This was just thrilling to watch! One of my favorite pieces from my favorite composer, Bach. I loved the warmth and genuineness of your performance. It was just a joy and a delight. Beautifully done, young man! Beautifully done!
The best performance of this piece I have heard anywhere. Talented instrumentalists. I loved the passion in the soloists performance, so smooth and flowing in his playing. He more than rose to the challenge of making his art look not like an art with beautifully timed ornaments and such a movement of his bow as made the notes stream unhindered from his violin.
This is my favourite version of the concerto. Thank you so much much much. I am listening to this performance everyday while I'm working. Thank you for this beautiful music.
Da gusto ver a tanta gente joven con esa gran calidad musical...le devuelven a uno la confianza en el ser humano...hay mucha gente haciendo maravillas por este mundo !!!!
Beautifully done - sublime, elegant and incredibly smooth. I wish that I could give multiple thumbs up! I particularly liked the emotion and energy at 12:20 as the Adagio made a slow crescendo towards its beautiful conclusion. Well done!
La opinión de un español melómano, este conjunto tocando la música clásica es una maravilla por la tonalidad,la afinación,el sentido musical y la maestría de los instrumentistas que hacen de cada obra una auténtica creación cautivadora que llega al alma,¡Maravilloso!
Siwoo is a very good Bach interpreter. We get brisk tempi and bouncy jolly rhythms here.... a fresh approach, crisp and sweet, instead of the traditional syrupy romantic slow Versions that we are used to. The Fast Movements' solo parts, while they are within the compass of any relatively advanced violinist, require such expressiveness & crispness & sweetness & vigour, that they are fiendishly hard to bring off.
Not a single person clapped between the transition from allegro to adagio to allegro assai. I must admit I am surprised. I have seen several videos where people applaud thinking it's over or cough and sneeze during the performance. Anyway, that was a good performance.I love Bach and in my opinion that was played beautifully.
Every concert I've ever been to or witnessed here at youtube has no applause between movements. Applause between movements is considered not acceptable. Why? I don't know, but this is the norm.
New York Classical Players I joined a group on Facebook called "Play your Bass in 5ths Man" which gave me the idea to play this Concerto on a 5ths Tuned Double Bass (the Solo part sounds 2 Octaves lower than written). The great thing about 5ths Tuning is that it not only makes it easier to play with the Cellos via same fingerings, but it also allows the Bassist to play solo repertoire that was originally not written for Double Bass (Cello pieces down an Octave, as well as Violin/any C Treble Instrument & Viola pieces down 2 Octaves are a good start). I once strung a 1/32 Size Bass up with Half Size Cello Strings, tuned it in Fifths, & it become very lyrical. They should make 5ths Tuned Double Bass strings for the fractional sized Basses from 1/16 to 1/2 size, (1/2 size Cello strings already double as 1/32 Size 5ths Tuned Double Bass Strings since the body is the same size as a 1/4 size Cello) since the intonation on them will be better in that tuning.
Whoever this guy is (violinist), he is freaking great! Some sort of magneticism when he plays, hard to describe! If I did not look at the video, it sounds like some great master violinist in Europe somewhere. Not at all forceful and rough as some modern violinists do.
I know these Bach Violin concertos were composed in the 1700s but the musical concepts sound modern nothing like the other music of the period , it is almost like he went on a time machine to the future and came back inspired
Surprisingly I enjoy this interpretation over Hilary’s, given her virtuosity and fame, and even though I am not a musician, I could tell Hilary’s skills and knowledge are superior.
The guys here who are saying the piece is too fast, clinical, and so on should really try listening to some contemporary recordings of Bach. Things have moved on CONSIDERABLY since Mischa Elman's time.
It's not just Bach that has been speeded up by modern classical players. Compare the tempo of just about any recent classical recording to a recording of the same work from the 1960s or 1970s. The difference is marked.
New York Classical Players The Bassist is Doubling the Cello part Down an octave cause he has the Double Bass tuned in Fifths (C, G, D, A) like a Cello but an Octave Lower. The really neat thing about Fifths Tuning is that it broadens the range of your Double Bass & at the same time fixes alot of intonation problems cause with Fifths Tuning, the Bass will play more in tune with the rest of the String section.
Kim is marvelous. The balance between soloist and orchestra is off - the tutti passages in general the strings should be softer and more contrast betw p and f: in part so the harpsichord can be more clearly heard, in part to clear up the muddier parts in fast passages, mvts. 1 & 3. Small quibbles, however. Bravo to all!
That 48 dislikes 100% don't know about Bach and Baroque's amazing place, I think it's fantastic! Siwoo! You are so amazing!
Maybe they don't like the audiences...

Adagio is by far the best & most underrated movement by Bach..

This is a fantastic modern recording! Bach endures! Long live Siwoo Kim!
I love the gaps filled in so naturally by the beautiful playing of the soloist.

really nice performance! best version of J.S.BACH's Violin Concerto No. 2 in E major
I notice that the Bassist was using the same bow angles as the 2 Cellists cause he's probably using Obligato fifths tuning strings.

Excellent liner notes, NYCP! Thanks for this. Far too often, not nearly enough is said, and even more often, next to nothing is said.

Too good to ignore. Good listening all the way. Thank you for the video. Bravo!
What an energetic performance!
De los 6 conciertos p/violín y orquesta, este es lo que más me gusta, en especial lo secundo movimiento! Es cosa de Díos!
Me alegra que te haya gustado. Gracias por escuchar.
This is a marvelous interpretation of one of the most beatiful violin concerts. Both the soloist and the orchestra display splendid musicianship !!

NYCP, you rock!
I do believe this performance is indeed a great boon to humans facing the pandemic. Thanks so much from Japan!
Glad you like it!
The music made me only say "Beautiful!!!"
Yes I love this version. Bach for Bach lovers.
I don’t like comments that insult other types of interpretations so I won’t even though I’m tempted.

This is a beautiful piece of work, certainly more thoughtful than the idiotic music written nowadays.

A tad fast and delicate for my taste. I like to hear more resolve and power in the E, G#, B theme.
