  • 2008 G37s coupe valve cover job. Random multiple misfires due to worn gaskets on the rocker cover causing oil to drip on the plugs resulting in my misfires. The car wasn’t driven when the CEL came on. I was home about to leave when the car started up but then misfires with no lights(cel). So I shut her down and put the scan tool on it. Started her back up she immediately misfires and CEL on bank 1 cylinder 1 showed on scan tool as misfire, then I received the random multiple misfires as I let the car run for a few seconds as I scanned. I’ve seen a little oil on the boot when I did a spark plug job about 60,000 miles ago. But it was minimal so I put it off until now when it failed completely. Lucky for me it happening at home. I post this video for those who may want to tackle this job yourself to save money. Comment Below👍🏼

      That's the situation I'm in now literally..Had a misfire so I replaced all coils. A year later changed the 02 sensor. Misfire reoccured on new coil again. Mechanic said oil was getting into the spark plugs causing damage on new coils. He told me I needed to change the valve cover gasket. My issue was how come he couldn't detect that the first time he changed the coils..I dropped him....I'm going to infiniti and have them do it..

    Hey man I hope you can help me out. I have an 09 g37 base sedan. I put it new spark plugs, new MAF sensors, cleaned the throttle bodies, reset the ecu, and did the idle relearn. However it still runs like crap. Rough starts, idle all over the place, poor acceleration until about 3k + rpms. Could it be time to change the ecu ? Would greatly appreciate any help.

      Hey Fam I appreciate that. Now it’s about a 3.5 to 4 hour job in the book. So all you really need to know is how much the shop charge per hour. This can vary from shop to shop. It’s not that hard to do. It’s just a lot of hoses and wiring harnesses to move out the way. It can be done by yourself but you’ll need someone to hold harness out the way on install. Other than that I used wire to hold shit out of my way. Just have the proper tools and it can go smooth. I changed spark plugs too but didn’t film that. Good luck. 🤟🏼

    Hey man, sorry I'm back with more questions. Your video is quite good so I can't help but ask and I'm trying to get the correct parts ordered.
    1. What torque wrench are you using? I only have a large one for tire lug nuts, but need a smaller version for jobs like this.
    2. What cleaner/solvent are you using @13:09 to clean covers?
    3. On the G35, the seal/gasket at spark plug tubes are integrated into the valve cover themselves, but it it looks like you were able to replace yours at 14:01. Is that correct? Maybe this is something new for G37 which prevent having to replace the entire cover if oil is getting into spark plug tube.
    4. Other videos report of a "valve cover breather Hose" cracking due to it being brittle. Did you have any issue with cracked hoses?
    Thanks again!

      The plug gaskets are replaceable just made differently. Same steps tho. If you got stock hoses, you might want to replace them. They do crack with age. You’ll get a vacuum leak if you let em go to far before replacing. I got one that’s cracked but not enough to cause a leak yet so it’s on the list of parts needed. I did use a water hose and my detailed brush to agitate the degreaser then I air blew it dry and let it sit til next day. Just didn’t want any moisture left inside. All you need is some degreaser water & some rags (towels). I got those scrubs from a friend who get it from work...Hope it help bro. Good luck with it..just get in there and you’ll figure it out as you go..The video will just be the guide you need to get it done..I’m no mechanic by any means.

    How many miles did it have at that moment? Did you have oil in any spark plug tubes?
    An advice for anyone wanting to do this, It's also a good practice to change the long part of the coilpacks as well once you are there for the peace of mind, they cost about $50 for a Denso six pack.

      What’s up Fam I was at 240,000 miles when I did this work. I did have oil on the boots, I had seen this at least 30,000 miles before I changed it because it didn’t present a problem at the time. So I continued to drive her an the day before I was going to just do the work she decided to fail completely. Misfiring on one cylinder on the first start up. Then on the second start up she misfired on multiple cylinders. I had scan tool hooked up after the first misfire. Lucky for me it happened at home in the garage. I also changed out the plugs too. I feel there’s no need to change coils unless you’re getting a misfire. If the coil is failing you’ll most likely get misfires first because the computer will count all the voltage drops that fall out of range. An will throw a code after so many drive cycles. Shouldn’t be a hard job to do if you got tools and a good back..Thanks for Watching 👊🏼

      What’s up bro. I only change out my spark plugs, because it was almost time and I was already in there so I changed them. Coils was fine. But if you got oil on plugs then you probably need to change out the gaskets and plug gasket too. You might be able to get away with just doing the gaskets and not the plugs. • @tgreen200
      @tgreen200  3 года назад

      Sorry to hear that. I would start by checking for vacuum leaks. Usually it’s around the TB, intakes, pvc hoses, any hose connected to the upper intake collector. Or spark plugs could be fouled. Just remove em to check. Does the code just comes and goes? Could be coil about to fail. If you haven’t changed valve cover gasket on a high mileage G u should do all on that and change out to new plugs too. Let us know what happens. Thanks for Watching Fam

      @@tgreen200 its only 45k miles, plugs were only a year old but changed them anyways going from denzo to NGK with no change. CEL only came on once, i cleared to see if it would come back and it hasnt. But the car feels off, less power (inconsistently feeling between 70%-90% power). But motor feels like it runs a little rougher as well. Like not horribly but a little. And it was and will every once in a while idle drop (stutter) at stop lights.

    • @tgreen200
      @tgreen200  3 года назад

      Bro sounds like to me you got a vacuum leak. You got stock air box or aftermarket. If stock check the plastic breather it has two hoses connected to it one is on the intake and the other on the valve cover. It may be cracked. I replace mine along time ago due to it creating a cel and rough ride lose of power and fuel trims was way off. I would check the fuel trim if your scan tool has a drivability function..You want to selective live data and let me know what you got. This will definitely tell us if you got a vacuum leak because you’ve rule out some other problems. Let us know Fam.
