    I agree that initially as you come out of being insulin resistant a 72 hour fast is not a good idea. Start with learning to do intermittent fasting. Then push it and push it until you can go to 24 hour fast. Then go to 30. Then 36. Then 40. Then 45. Then 50x then 60. Then 72. It’s well worth it. I wouldn’t worry about the heavy metals. That’s a rare condition. The 72 hour fast makes you feel amazing. Don’t do it if you are extremely skinny to start with. ❤

    Over the past 3 years, I have fasted for seven days without food at least once during the year. 3 of those days was without water and the last four was with electrolytes and my daily vitamins with light exercise. I did not feel lethargic or weak during that period. I also do 72 hours fasts every so often as well as fast intermittently. I was able to reverse Metabolic disease and my doctor took me off of high blood pressure medication and Statin. My blood/sugar levels are normal and I lost 70 pounds and have kept it off for 3 years now. So, all of the advice I have been hearing from some of these so-called experts is driven by the profit agendas of the food manufacturing and pharmaceutical industry to keep us fat, hungry, sick, and medicated. Simple visits to my doctor for labs and blood work have debunked their claims every time.

      I'm sorry to hear he deterred you from prolonged fasting. The autophagy (for cleaning out and replacing damaged cells of all kinds) and mitochondrial (giving you more brand new power generators and cleaning out old ones) only happens with fasting longer than intermittent fasting. I've done 5-day fasts simply for that reason. No one could guess my age of 52; most guess 40ish. Collagen is boosted, damaged skin "eaten" by autophagy. No wrinkle cream can do that from the outside.
      His problem with it is that people try to do it before they are "fat adapted." If you do IF (OMAD with keto) enough before you move to 36-hours, 48-hours, and then 72-hours and beyond you'll be 100% fine. But, I guess not many people want to put in the effort so he says to just not bother.
      You do get SOME autophagy from 17 hours, but it's a dimmer switch kind of thing. Your autophagy switch is JUST barely turning on at that point and then BAM you eat and it turns off. Sigh.
      As for what and when to eat there are tons of good resources out there but if I name any my post will likely be deleted. I found them; so can you.

  • @s-g-j
    @s-g-j 2 месяца назад +7

    if you are fat adapted, meaning you can make and use ketones (flexible metabolism) and you have weight to lose, regardless of how you lose the weight, you are going to release toxins into your system. So, take activated charcoal or even Gundry Detox to mop up the toxins and (literally) flush them out of your system while losing the weight. Fasting up to 72 hours has been shown to be the most effective time length for the main benefit of fasting (weight loss with minimal muscle loss, autophagy, inflammation reduction and many others). So where is the downside?

    • @allhimwithme5115
      @allhimwithme5115 2 месяца назад

      There is no downside. I take "Bind" when I do a prolonged fast. I've even done a 3-day dry fast and it was the easiest of all and I ended up avoiding needing to take antibiotics (gasp) for an injury that was starting to get angry. Nipped that in the bud and I wasn't "fat" either - even slim people have PLENTY of fat to spare for a healing fasting regimen. I'm slim but a LONG way from "emaciated."

  • @RobC1999
    @RobC1999 2 месяца назад +1

    So, how long does it take for the body to switch to fat burning if you’re not metabolically flexible? Perhaps, maybe, about 72 hours? I agree with a previous comment, to avoid excessive muscle loss switch to a keto diet or larger and larger intermittent fasting windows for at least two weeks before doing 72 hours. Most of us overweight people have lots of muscle mass due to excessive insulin for so long…

  • @allhimwithme5115
    @allhimwithme5115 2 месяца назад

    Loving prolonged fasting _with_ metabolic flexibility and _Bind_ activated charcoal. Great points, Dr. Gundry! I became metabolically flexible via intermittent fasting (23:1 OMAD) and eating a ketogenic diet. Then I did a 36-hour, bumped it up to 48 and then I started finding 5-day water fasts easy except for emotionally missing the activity of eating. After a year of doing IF and prolonged fasting, I tried a 3-day DRY fast, and that was the EASIEST by far - no hunger, great energy, and guess what, I did it because an injury was showing signs of infection and by the end it was GONE without antibiotics. Autophagy to the rescue.
    I'm 52, female and used to suffer from hangriness if I didn't eat every 4 hours. Now, I can go as long as I want...I have only broken prolonged fasts because I plain ol' desired to have a meal, not because I felt weak or even hungry, per se.

    • @allhimwithme5115
      @allhimwithme5115 2 месяца назад +2

      Yeah...he kinda dismissed that. Autophagy "turns on" at about 17 hours of fasting and turns up the heat until about 72-hours. Once you eat it shuts off. So, that's why my prolonged fasting time is about 5 days. I don't want to get to max rate autophagy and immediately turn it off.

    This is the silliest thing I have listened to this year. If you're not eating, your body has no option but to liberate glycogen from your fat cells. This is the very basis of metabolism. Now, should you take someone who is insulin-resistant and stick them on a 72-hour fast? NO! Obviously not. You put them on a time-restricted diet first, then intermittent fasting with a 24-hour fast every week, then to a 48-hour fast every week, and then a 72-hour fast once or twice a month. 100% of normal people who do this will lose weight and be healthier!

    Tou need that your fasting muscle start to work out by baby steps. Begin with 24, then 48, then 72 and son on. Break it when you need it. Id you're feeling bad, you need electrolytes. Nees to update your info

    Dr Mindy Pelz claims to be an expert on this, but I don't believe her and believe we are all different and for most people, either sick or healthy, 48 hours is enough thanks!

      She doesn't "claim" to be an expert; she cites the studies she's read and based her advice on.

    Surprisingly in the comments below show some just do not get it...a 72 hr fast is silly after this explanation stupid...brain transplant instead
    72 hrs fast there are better ways to fast and more natural...
    Like running a marathon, no point...... there are better ways to exercise ...and its well documented ......

      I don't think it's silly how I healed a severe asthmatic auto-immune disorder by IF and prolonged fasting at 52.

    If you have a problem with entero-hepatic recycling (reabsorbing things your body is trying to get rid of in your bile) ask your provider for some cholestyramine - a bile sequestrant. So if you are forced to go long periods without food, you won't reabsorb those bad things (such as heavy metals).
