I'm disappointed that they caved and intend to move the charging port to the "Tesla" position (driver side rear). Yes having it on the other side causes issues when charging at Tesla Super Chargers (you may end up blocking a second stall), but that is a short term issue. Tesla's new dispensers have started to roll out and they have a longer cable that can reach either side so in a few years it will be a non-issue. But the long term issue we will have for mass EV adoption is providing more Level 2 charging solutions for people who don't have driveways or garages to park in. The most obvious solution to that is curb side charging, for which you would ideally want the charge port on the passenger side, not the drivers side. The best solution would be to put it on the front fender of the passenger side, that way it would still be in the optimal spot for curb side parking and work fine with existing Tesla chargers (you just pull into the stall instead of reverse in).

I have an R1T with 28,000 miles now, and it's the best vehicle I've ever owned. (More than 50 so far) I only hope Rivian can manage the $45,000 price point. It's 75% of the R1S at almost 50% of it's price! Not sure why Rivian can't hire the same architects, engineers and contractors to build their factory in Georgia. Why can Tesla build a Gigafactory, twice as big as the new Rivian factory, in a year and Rivian will take almost 3 years! C'mon Rivian, get it done!
My only complaint is that I wish Rivian had come out with this 3 years ago as a person who has always bought used vehicles. At a 45k starting price these would easily have been in my price range used after 3yrs of ownership and it checks off all the boxes. I was hoping to drive my Jeep Renegade for a few more years but fate had other plans. The 22 acadia I replaced it with fits most of my needs, but misses on offroad capability and is quite frankly, a little larger than I would personally like. This would fit into my garage (unlike the Acadia) so charging would be taken care of, and the front trunk combined with the rear cargo would be plenty of space to not have to remove car seats every weekend, the primary reason i went with the 3 Row Acadia. I like everything about it, from the exterior design to the interior. Its a vehicle I would really like to spend my time with.
Half the comments here are either negative or about the car, or Doug because people are mad about a deleted video. Yeah it was a bit tone deaf, who cares? It doesn’t affect my life any any significant ya where I can make it through the rest of my work day. As for this car, I have absolutely no use for electric car at this point in my life, I drive too much, and I have nowhere to plug it in, but I think this is a great option in a world right now where electric car sales are slowing, especially the expensive choices. I’d rather pay $45k for this over a bZ4x or a Dodge Hornet where are barely competitive choices.
Glad to hear that they will be moving the charge port location lol. Gives them easy access to Tesla chargers and opens up the charger next to them while charging

It will be interesting to see how these videos age as more and more vehicles become electric. By no means do I believe that will be soon, but comments like "under the hood there is no engine" will be kind of obvious. "An engine under the hood? Why that is unheard of."
Okay, so at $55k to $66k price points, there would be a few things that would be non negationable requirement for an SUV. Great stereo; seem like the R2 does not have door speakers. Second would be quad zone HVAC. When you have kiddos having the ability to ensure temp control is the rear to important. Love that about the R1S and really dislike that the R2 does not have it. Lastly, the range of 300 is low. EV owner's often talk about really accounting for 80% of full charging. So, really 240 miles. The ideal range should be 400. Maybe Rivian could do away with 0-60 in 3 second and work on optimize power delivery for more range.
Why would I buy such e-suv? The electricity prices and bills are skyrocketing here in Germany, prices of insurance got completely mad and without your own house with solar panels you literally have no easy way to charge this up in a city like Berlin. The best solution would be to put it on the front fender of the passenger side, that way it would still be in the optimal spot for curb side parking and work fine with existing Tesla chargers (you just pull into the stall instead of reverse in).
Awesome vehicle, should sell really well. Hopefully Rivian can get it to market ahead of schedule.
I call dibs on "D2" for the first personalized license plate!
That red filter for the displays should be available in every car.
Honestly worth it for only 45K
Gonna be like 80k-100k in EU.
Not a bad price considering what if offers.
$45k is for the base model. I'm sure this one is much more.
They'll be $60K with a few options
@@DG_427 nope
Doug is the type of guy to review a prototype that was revealed 8 months ago
To be fair, he had some interesting updates and new info on what is planned for production
Dead meme only used by those channel’s most pathetic and lowest IQ viewers. Grow up. Make millions of normal people happy and keep your inane comments to yourself.
It was going to cost 9 billion. The choice was to bankrupt or delay the project. Normal has more than enough capacity.
I’d bet $45000, it won’t be $45,000 when it comes out
The super dark feature was definitely made with stargazing and dark sky parks in mind
Yes, I made a comment about that.
😍😍😍 Nice job RJ and team!!
R2 was a Day One pre-order for me. I hope Rivian delivers.
I'm stoked for this and the R3x. Can't wait for it to be released.
Love it! do the R3X next!
Love the boxy simple look. Wish regular gas powered cars looked more like this.
Wait just realized this will be much cheaper than the ID Buzz and it looks more practical!
"Here's the R2 Concept car! Everything you see here will probably change, but hey, at least you know what it could be..."
Glad to hear that they will be moving the charge port location lol. Gives them easy access to Tesla chargers and opens up the charger next to them while charging
If they make a Maverick size pickup called the D2 I'll buy one!
Rivian is one of the few EVs that I would 100% own
Love my r1S! Pre ordered the r2. I’m hoping 3 car seats can fit in the back nicely
Damn 3 car seats…you need to work on your pull out game!😂
I gotta say I wasn't a fan of rivians at first because electric and expensive(and I dont like the headlights/taillights) but they have had zero scandals, major issues, quality control, or safety issues, no political bs or crazy ceo... I think they are growing on me.
They are growing on me. The headlights are a bit goofy, and look like the eyes on a mushroom from Mario video games, but besides that I like em.
Yay! It has an instrument cluster! It already has the MY beat, right there.
If anyone can make it long-term, I think it will be Rivian based on what I hear from reviewers and owners. I still want the R1T!
I really want this!! I wish we didn't have to wait more for it to be available!
Scroll wheels are a thoughtful idea. I’m excited for the R3.
Can't wait for R2! So cool!
That Model Y picture is incredible. It is from Istanbul
Sure it's smaller than the R1 but "Baby" Rivian is ridiculous. This car is still massive.
Rivian got Doug!?! They have influence for sure.
It will be interesting to see how these videos age as more and more vehicles become electric. By no means do I believe that will be soon, but comments like "under the hood there is no engine" will be kind of obvious. "An engine under the hood? Why that is unheard of."
45k is affordable? I'm poorer than I thought...
That's why the average car payment is $1000/mo+
Yes you are.
@@Christoph-sd3zi where did you pull that figure from?
Upcoming R3X and the phev Ramcharger would be a pretty neat 2 car garage
I love it aside from NO SPARE TIRE 🤦🏻♂️ it takes 10 min to change a tire and I don’t wanna wait an hour or three for AAA to save me…
This might sound bold to say, but i personally think Rivian has the best looking modern vehicles of all time. lol
This and the new Charger are the most interesting EV's to me.
Love the R2! Rivian makes quality and good looking vehicles.
Seriously thought that was a Renault logo on the steering wheel to begin with
The ev train has left already. Now the hard part convincing people who don’t want them. The problem is 26 is too far away.
I just want a freaking R2T... Make a Tacoma sized electric pickup that goes 300 Miles for less than $45k
Why would I buy such e-suv? The electricity prices and bills are skyrocketing here in Germany, prices of insurance got completely mad and without your own house with solar panels you literally have no easy way to charge this up in a city like Berlin. Makes no sense am sorry. PS: Doug I Love you and your videos🎉😊
You underestimate how much we love SUVs in the US, and how many of us genuinely take them into the wild. Also, Electricity where I live is $0.09/KWh, but it is going up. We have solar.
I doubt they even plan to sell these outside of the US.
How does the ground clearance compare to the Model Y?
Faraday Future is going to slap the ev market next year, sorry Rivian 😅
I'd love to see Rivian take off more, especially as people flee the Tesla brand. Cool vehicles and it seems like a lot of thought goes into their practical features.
great video. I almost bought a Model Y this fall, but did something else. Knowing this is a Model Y competitor would have been a possibility if released. Maybe I'll be in the market when the release the R3x
Very surprised DOug didn't mention the little windows on the stalks!
That's a really impressive vehicle. I hope it will keep the price point. May pull me away from a CT.
this is the most exciting car that i am anticipating to buy when it's released
Reservation fee of 100 bucks, estimated delivery begins 2026
Since when was $45,000 an entry level car
It’s around the average price of the average car buyer, I don’t the think this car is considered cheap, the electric fiat 500 is like 28 with insntivtes
But will it come with NACs on the back driver side? 🤞🤞🤞
