RJ seems like a genuine cool and nice guy. He's not awkward like 90% of CEOS are, and he comes across as really passionate (almost geeky?) about his cars. Cool to see that for a change!
RJ is the reason I bought an electric car. Unfortunately I couldn't afford his product, but listening to him is what drove me to make the jump to an EV.
My dad meet him and his ex wife, he said they were really nice people. My husband works for rivian and said he seeing him at the factory here and there.
I noticed that as well. He's not Elon awkward and weird, and he's not like some major brand CEO that has clearly rehearsed all of the talking points with marketing before the event. He seems like he is very hands on and very much a part of the team, and fairly humble and reserved. I am beginning to become fond of their brand. Something about what they are doing here really resonates with me, from the clean software, to the physical controls, to the unique look that combines clean lines and unique colors with something sporty and adventurous for a reasonable price. I'm impressed. They are definitely at the top of my EV list when I upgrade from combustion in a few more years.

@@tier1detailingif they could just wrap the tail lights around the back door like the r1s but also keeping a similar design I think that would make it legal
@@tier1detailing More accurately, there must be brake lights on a piece of body that can't move. The 2017-2020 chevy bolts switched to the lights on the bumper if the lift gate was open. It looks like the R3 has itty bitty lights in the bumper.
@google_was_my_idea123 bruh there are tons of normal cars that cost way more on average. Just look at the price for pickups these days, I just saw a 24 tacoma sr5 for 45k, didn't even have powered seats.
@@KenDotCom The Jeep Renegade has diminutive dimensions and I see quite a few of them in grocery store parking lots. Gen Z is delaying having large families, so smaller more affordable vehicles may make sense. I see what appear to be retired boomers driving Renegades too. It seems like a good opportunity for the Rivian R3.
@JHunter_ love the thing. My only issue with Rivian is the absurd wait for repairs and the cost if it's not something under warranty. A friend of mine got rear ended in a parking lot...hit and run. It wasn't that much damage but almost nobody would fix it and he waited 3 months for a repair(insurance paid) that would have taken a week for a Ford or Chevy
That R3X looks like an absolute blasty-blast... I'd love to rip around on some trails with that thing. Instant electric response times, loads of torque, low center of mass, wide wheelbase. I can dream... ...but with a 6 month old and perhaps one more in the future, I'll have to plan for the R2 if anything 😅 they all look pretty sweet
I am so excited to start seeing these vehicles on the road! I love how Rivian kept their now iconic design language and brought in a more traditional hatchback shape for the R3!
I'm really fond of this CEO; his humility and enthusiasm for his product are incredibly refreshing. He's deeply passionate about his work. The entire interview came across as a conversation between two gentlemen who are both genuinely excited about the technology, engaging in a relaxed and enjoyable chat. Super like !
As someone who prefers small sedans and crossovers over all the big giant ass SUVs. R3 was a massively pleasant surprise. Really glad to see Rivian is going to have something small in the future if they can make it long enough to be profitable.
@@jake-ly yes, we are going to be in the market specifically for a Crosstrek later this decade when our Outback is about toasted, and I wanted to get something electric for our around the town car. This seems like it would be a great option, if the price is right.

I'm a GM guy and I love that Rivian is pushing boundaries and forcing the other companies who've gotten complacent to act. These vehicles are pretty damn cool.
that’s what I’m saying the car industry milked the consumer for decades for old technology. Imagine if they pushed for innovation we would’ve been miles ahead now. I’m glad companies came to have them clean up there act in terms of innovation
The contrast between Rivian leaning into Marques and Fisker whining about Marques could not be more stark. Kudos to RJ and Rivian for leveraging Marques here. Brilliant PR move.
@@dustybaguette The thing was Fisker is their software just needs work, needs more time to get bugs fixed and mature. Rivian is notable for having great software already, that is a strength for them. Fisker comes across as just not quite finished and needing a bigger team to get it all tweaked.
I've been wanting a rivian for so long. Invested in the co since the beginning, so this makes me happy that I will be able to afford one in the near future.
The R3X back design strikes me as something that will become a sought-after style. Really interesting blend of vintage and modern design elements. Like how the makers of Back to the Future 2 would have an old VW Golf look in hovercar times.
my initial reaction was that I hated it. I thought it was trying to look retro in a way that didn't work. I can see myself liking it more with time though
I really appreciate that Rivian is actually trying (and doing very well) to make cool/interesting/fun EV's. I really hope it becomes a successful brand.
The impression I got from the CEO was more like "I just bought this car that I am super psyched about". Rather than "lets sell some product!!". Very refreshing!! I look forward to these cars but mostly the R3 being a fan of small hatches.
I can't believe that Marques still film these himself. Running the #1 unquestionable tech channel on RUclips... Still humble keeping the experience as if a buddy of yours just sent you a video of something cool they just found. That's amazing, FANTASTIC JOB!
While it is quite nice, have you looked at the first video of this “Auto Focus” channel? He said he wanted to do this channel in a way that helped show people who wanted to start off their own new channels that they can do it with their own stuff, they don’t need the awesome equipment and setup his main MKBHD channel uses. That said, it is definitely appreciated to see he still clearly creates quality content while going to a more “basic” setup… even if it is being shot on a top end mobile device. 🙂
The UI style of the central screen is really impressive and unique, especially the dark mode theme and wallpaper, love it! the whole has it own design language in exterior and also interior
Totally loved R3 and R3X compact SUV retro styling with futuristic tail lights. Really appreciate what Rivian is doing by bringing out more affordable and compact EVs ❤
I did a shoot at the Rivian plant and got to meet RJ. He's just like in the videos. Super nice guy who's really excited about making awesome electric vehicles. He's smart and knows how to put a great team together. I expect big things from Rivian.
My family's first car is the Suzuki Swift, which is a fun and practical car. The R3 is a breath of fresh air for those who prefer smaller vehicles. This mighteven be competetive here in Asia.
@@AnthonyBullard There is ZERO EV adoption here because even the chinese brands are having a hard time getting the people's trust and of course, wallets. People here are very loyal to Japanese brands. Hybrids on the other hand are on a steady rise. My family for example is considering buying our next MPV, which is a Suzuki Hybrid.
I am hoping for so much success for Rivian. I adore the styling. So much more natural than a Cybertruck. Classy and understated is how I would describe the R2 and R3. Great job
That R3X is freaking sick!!! That’s just what my next car is gonna be I already know it. I love hatchback wagon things, and that thing is just so cool looking! R3 I genuinely feel like will become their “Iconic” car. That design is going to be popular, it’s got this futuristic vintage look that just works so perfectly. And with them all having 300 miles of range! I’m hooked and I’m sold!
I agree, but considering the R2 isn't coming out until 2 years from now and they don't even have a date for the R3, I'm concerned that it won't come out or at least won't come out the way you saw today. I mean, when is it coming out? 2027? It's too long!
Wow R2 really looks like a miniature R1S. The steering wheel controls look awesome and the fold flat front seats are genius. Also that R3X is giving rally hatchback vibes, I dig it.
@@arion9696 I'm loving the recent trend of more small "crossovers" getting closer and closer to classic hatchback styling! Ioniq5, Mazda CX30, Volvo EX30, and more are essentially hatchbacks in proportions and styling. I think the extended wheelbase of EVs are one of the reasons the EVs in particular are resembling hatchbacks more than the ICE crossovers. When you push out the wheels farther to the front and rear, it naturally seems to lend itself to the hatchback shape with proportions resembling the early VW Golfs and similar cars.
The R2/R3 models are maybe the first Electrics that I would consider. Much respect for bringing us this report so soon after the drop. You should compare to Tesla model Y. Tesla has a lot of things that are comparable or better than these cars and its available now. By the time the R2 is out there will likely be a updated version of the model Y that is even better.
@@5893MrWilson You make a good point. In my area there are also many value priced used Teslas available and I do see a lot of value in those. And Teslas are proven, known quantities.
Yeah, having these two smaller options make me really consider a Rivian...FARR into the future, when the US is better equipped for charging stations. My area seldom has any and the ones that are present, are in shopping mall lots mainly. Not very convenient for me. I pray they stay in the running and give Tesla a run for Their money going forward.
I love that people who designed this really thought about particular use cases like in car camping and stargazing. Having that red screen mode so you keep your night vision is amazing
I don’t normally care much for the EV market but I’m not gonna lie… I REALLY like that R3X lol. I have a GTI currently and the design of the R3 gives off the vibes of an 80’s hatchback and I love it. The Tri Motor is just icing on the cake
This has got to be the most practical EV I've seen with features that actually make sense. I mean an EV with a glovebox! who knew that would be such a luxury feature in this day and age! but seriously this looks really well thought out. Looks like the kind of EV I would love to own
WTF? an EV is just a car with a battery instead of a gas tank. Nothing new about this Rivian that wasn't done 10 years ago by BMW. Using recycled lightweight materials and having a glove box isn't new.. What consumers want to hear is that in 10 to 15 years time that there will be battery replacements for their electric cars that don't cost $30k to replace. Obviously as technologies improve, these cars will charge faster (no one wants to be sitting at a charging station for 40 minutes while road tripping).. Tesla won the industry charging standard, now other cars will be made with the Tesla charging port.
I have to say. This CEO appears to be one of the best in the entire industry. He’s very smart, approachable, and explains things like a human! Not a robot… (Elon) I’m super impressed by the R2 and R3. Rivian needed a little Boost, and they just got a massive one. It looks great. $45k R2 RWD 270 miles vs $44k Model Y RWD 260 miles is on par. Although the 4695 cells are only made in China by EVE. So unless they have some company making them in the US in 2 years, it won't get a credit.
R3 is gorgeous and exactly what most people actually need. A good quality, small electric car. As soon as it’s possible to actually buy these easily, I’m sold.
Yep. People in the US keep getting upsold on larger vehicles than they really need and unfortunately makers are starting to discontinue everything except the biggest vehicles because that's where the biggest margins are. Very pleased to see Rivian offering a smaller option in the future.

He looks like steve o 💀
He's a great dude!
R3 and the X are absolutely gorgeous. Seriously no other EV got me this excited. I wish Rivian great success.
ioniq 5 N is most exciting EV to me, but i love R3. love the design and it's something i can see myself driving. just not sold on the brand yet though.
@@joec.5009The 5N is really a looker, isn't it? Rivian really seems to know what they're doing, too. They've got their corner of the market pinned down.
Don't believe they can use the rear light design on the R3, but hopefully I'm mistaken because I think that's gorgeous.
What's the law? Brake lights aren't allowed to be on a movable piece of body work?
@@tier1detailingif they could just wrap the tail lights around the back door like the r1s but also keeping a similar design I think that would make it legal
@@tier1detailing More accurately, there must be brake lights on a piece of body that can't move. The 2017-2020 chevy bolts switched to the lights on the bumper if the lift gate was open.
It looks like the R3 has itty bitty lights in the bumper.
I dig the "all seats fold flat" feature. That's nice.

I'm wondering if all the seats go down in the R3 as well. Or at least if the back is long enough to sleep inside with just the back row down 🤔
The R3X color scheme is CRAZY, I want it immediately. Hopefully the price will be revealed soon.

Didn't think the r3 would be appealing

The R3 looks like the 1970's Fiat Ritmo/Strada...!?!
It reminds me of a group B ralleye car
I am so excited to start seeing these vehicles on the road! I love how Rivian kept their now iconic design language and brought in a more traditional hatchback shape for the R3!
I'm really fond of this CEO; his humility and enthusiasm for his product are incredibly refreshing. He's deeply passionate about his work.

How is Marques filming a video like this unbelievable?
While it is quite nice, have you looked at the first video of this “Auto Focus” channel? He said he wanted to do this channel in a way that helped show people who wanted to start off their own new channels that they can do it with their own stuff, they don’t need the awesome equipment and setup his main MKBHD channel uses.

When you push out the wheels farther to the front and rear, it naturally seems to lend itself to the hatchback shape with proportions resembling the early VW Golfs and similar cars.

all evs have gloveboxes
WTF? an EV is just a car with a battery instead of a gas tank.
