  • Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease & Diet | Diets to Prevent and Reduce Severity of NAFLD
Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) is the most common type of chronic liver disease worldwide, with much of its etiology due to insulin resistance, which can be a byproduct of dietary and lifestyle choices. In this lesson, we discuss diets and dietary selections that are associated with onset and increased severity of NAFLD, and we will also discuss diets that have been shown to help prevent and treat NAFLD.

I did my blood test yesterday after 5 weeks of 100% no carbohydrates no sugar no fruits no starch no red meat diet. My Liver panel test result shown AST , ALT , GGT level all perfect! Far from its top range. Just 5 weeks. My fatty liver is reversed to healthy normal. I lost 4-5kg just from dieting and stop eating after 7pm till next day lunch. 2 meals a day. Only boiled using water, steam Fish , tofu , cabbage broccoli veggies , chicken breast , black coffee no sugar for afternoon lunch and green tea no sugar during evening dinner not later than 7pm. After 7pm I fast till next day lunch 12pm. The fasting time is extremely important as this time allows digestion and some hunger which makes our body burn the fat within without exercising. Exercising barely able to reach the fat around our liver. So fasting is the effective way. I had No milk (contain high fat and high sugar) . No snacks. No all kind of bread which still are carbohydrates. No cake. No biscuits. No rice. No noodles. No fruits especially as it’s fructose are directly process only by our liver! Just 5 weeks and fatty liver is back to normal with proven liver function blood test compared to my previous test result 5 weeks ago. I feel very lively light and positive. I lost 5kg. Also My cholesterol and sugar level were also extremely good blood test result! I m looking way younger and my body is nicer too. I m 33 years old male. Non smoker non alcoholic. Didn’t work in a toxic environment. I didn’t exercise. But I ate much rice , fatty red meat, and milk and cookies and fruits. I slept late before. Now I kicked those bad habit n bad diet. After recovered from fatty liver, I continue my way of eating n fasting n sleeping time. I reintroduced some healthy carbohydrates back into my diet. Such as some corn carrot , some wheat bread, a little potatoes. Please make sure u do not overdo it. I really mean only some. Lack of discipline and taking it for granted will cause regrets. I’m sharing for mankind and for those who were helpless from useless doctors. And I’m sharing in memory of my late father who passed away due to end stage liver disease.

Thank you for posting this! I have been in a lot of discomfort and from all the videos I have watched I have come to the realization that I have liver damage especially after watching this video and his very clear explanation. I believe it is the early stages because it does feel inflamed and very uncomfortable even to the point of intolerable. I cannot afford to go to the doctor because I am on a very tight fixed income so I have been looking for help on all the RUclips videos I could find offering solutions and I came upon this one today with your comment! Thank you for explaining what you did and didn't do so clearly! I am going to follow what you did and hope that this will work and reverse my damage starting today! God Bless you and I hope you are still doing well! I will come back and report my progress!

I hope by now everyone has learned more because it is fructose, which makes up half of table sugar, that is really bad. It is not fat. Vegetable oils are toxic. Cholesterol is not the problem we've been told it is. Use heavy whipping cream with coffee & with some blueberries or strawberries if you like; not milk. Use butter from grass fed animals. Make sure chicken is organic pasturecraised same for eggs so the omega 6 is lower. Use IF or extended fasts. Statins are not good. Paul Mason, Ken Berry, Eric Berg, Jason Fung, Pradip Jamnadas.

My first sign of when my liver was in discomfort was after I had a large bowl of Pho (vietnamese beef noodle soup) with a vietnamese iced coffee. I felt some slight pain on the right side of my abdomen area. I thought it would just go away until finally the pain was unbearable I went to my doctor to get blood and ultrasound done. He told me I have fatty liver. I believe a combination of red meat and rice noodles (processed carbs) and iced coffee loaded with condensed milk (sugar) triggered the pain and caused inflammation. I wish I was one of those humans that can eat whatever and whenever they want and stay lean and healthy.

    *Some real quick tips:*
    - *Exercising regularly* is a great way to detox your body, and can help flush out toxins in the process! Stay away from sedentary activities like watching TV for hours on end or long stretches of sitting at work - you may not realize it but those things are slowly killing your liver!
    - *Reduce sugar intake*
    _Hope it helps!_

This in conjunction with PCOS, I still need to stay away from too much caffeine.
Been consuming more raw tree nuts, raw berries and herbal teas in the morning.
A 2 tsp serving of water soaked ground flax seed once a day.
Non-sweet fruits, like: bell peppers, cucumbers, avocado and cantaloupe (which is sweet but high in protein)
As a woman, I still like my daily Greek yogurt.
I use unsweetened almond milk as needed and regular butter/olive oil blend.
If I do cook, I use EVOO & Coconut oil or Avocado oil.
More raw kale, beets, spinach, radishes, celery, ginger, garlic, turmeric, Pink Himalayan Sea salt.
    No pork.
Transitioning into Turkey for beef, still a chicken fan.
Eating more shrimp and lean fish.
I've also been drinking 8oz water per 25lbs. Of total body weight.

Keto works great for lots of us as does carnovoire. I'm not sure what you did. If you really did either of them correctly and with IF did not lose weight there is likely a reason why they did not work for you. By the way, if it doesn't have pesticides, milk thistle is excellent for the liver.

I did a meal a day fast with a 48 hour fast on the weekends, Totally fixed my liver functions within a month, I started burning a pound a day until I was lightest I've been since middle school.
Now that I'm stable I have a little more lax system with three rules:
    1. I will fast 48 hours once a week.
    2. I will have one meal a day.
    3. I will stick to a no carb/no sugar/strictly keto diet.
I am allowed to break one of those a week, but I will have to do the other two. Most weeks I only break rule 1 because 48 hour fasts are dreadful to me, so if I'm going to cheat my diet it would have to be a VERY special occasion but this system works out for me.

HFCS's, with too much fatty foods, and an ongoing inflammatory diseases in my body all worked in tandem to trigger N.A.S.H. liver disease in my case. At the point I got my liver biopsy, I had Hepatosplenomegaly, portal vein hypertension, and piece necrosis. Still rather vague symptoms outwardly as you said. Tired a lot, I did have one pain that was bizarre, but I believe I figured out why it could have been happening. I would have a strong electrical surge pain shoot from the outside of my right great toe that shot straight up into and under the edge on my right rib age occasionally. Those two are along the same meridian. It was telling me that the liver was blocking a flow. This was in 2002 and they( VA) were talking about this being a relatively new problem, told me not goon any starvation diet as it had been seen to speed up the process and therefore the disease. They told me nothing real could be done about it, but we'll give a parmecuetical strength Vitamin C and E mix. This all had me convinced that there was really nothing much to be done. Almost four years later I developed official diabetes, and that is when I took the issue in my own hand and did go on drastic calorie reduction. Cut sugar out and did lower fats and only took up what I called "power walking' and a year later, I had all levels under control. As you bring up in other liver videos, only my ALT levels were rising considerably. By the time it became official diabetes, the AST had started rising by about high normal plus 25%. Medical field was just sitting back and watching saying I will need a liver, someday, and many die waiting.

Very informative. and food for thought. Something I've often wondered regarding negative vs positive effects of Keto . As Keto is based on high fat/ protein low carb, and ketosis doesn't seem to be determined by the types of fat, (ie saturated vs non saturated) Could the negative effects of Keto be caused by high saturated intake and the positive by high intake of healthier fats. I've seen people lose weight both ways on Keto, but often wondered how high saturated fats could ever be healthy and sustainable

It's not healthy. Get your fat from olive oil, flaxseed, chia, and nuts... and fish if you want to eat that.
Keto diets don't have to be high protein, full of foods like beef, bacon, and battery eggs. In fact excessive protein won't help your body with autophagy, when the whole point is to get rid of old, toxic proteins.

Vegetable oils are not made from veggies and they are toxic. No one should use them nor eat anything that contains them. Good fat, animal fat does not make people fat nor hurt the liver. Cut sugar our (it is not a food) cut grains and vegetable oils, one can lose weight and restore health. IF helps a lot.

He may live with one disease, or 2 (heart diaease) but he will have many symptoms ie fibromyalgia, could lose his feet, no energy, could lose his sight etc. If he takes meds he will have side effects from those. They now blame statins for causing diabetes type II; hear Berry. Good fats are fine; sugar is not nor sugar with fat. Coffee with organic heavy whipping cream is good; I've done this for almost 4 years, keeping weight at 120 lbs; I'm not on any meds, 71 years old. Get half gallon cream at Costco.

i have fatty liver. my dad have cirrhosis and passed away due to it. i spend months after months testing my diet and studying about nutrition. even the dr here have some error. first of all, make sure u do not suffer gallstones from gall bladder.. fatty liver can be due to liver disease mistaken as "Fat", but 99% of doctors who follow books and each other do not consider deeply from an art perspective that it is actually due to prolonged inflammation due to enzymes not being able to pass down the duct because the duct is obstructed on and off by gallstones. there is such cases whereby gallstones pancreatitis is the cause of liver inflammation. this case, first we need to stop eating high cholesterol food as 80% of stones are form by cholesterol. you can do your research about what food are high cholesterol. next, DO NOT DRINK alcohol as they are turned sugar eventually, if u continue then there is no point studying here, just die eventually. Next, we focus on the real fatty liver as underlying cause, is due to bad diet and inactive meaning no exercise , stop your excuses and do justice to your own life my friends. the number 1 poor habit we have is eating too much carbohydrates (white bread or even whole meal still have carbohydrates by the way, pasta, noodles, RICE, even brown rice red black ... all rice have carbohydrates , corn, potatoes, cakes, biscuits) these carbohydrates are everywhere out there selling to us just to keep us full but served tiny nutritional benefits to our body. it is just a habit. if you dont understand what is carbohydrates, it is another word glucose , which mean SUGAR! they turned into sugar in our body. more than often, we consumed more than enough carbohydrates and the excess are all unhealthy. supposedly if we exercise, our metabolism increase, and "burn" of calories and glucose in a form of energy. that is fine because it is math. but often we do not exercise, even if you are not obese which i am not, i am slim yet i have fatty liver, i do not drink and smoke ever, i wasnt on any medication, i had no other diseases ! it was because of all sugar, i ate lots n lots of rice! sometimes noodles, and extra bread everyday as snacks with kaya. i eat cookies too.. they are all sugar eventually. i did not exercise at all for years. i eat fatty red meat too. i used oil to cook. but it is actually the carbohydrates that is causing the fatty liver. now i exercise and lost 7 kg. but its no use, because it barely able to directly burn off liver fats even after we lost lots of weights from other part of body fat. the right way instead is to cut off all bread, potatoes, starch, corn, sugar drink, refined sugar, and FRUITS!!! apples, watermelon, banana.... they are high in fructose! which is sugar !! im serious here, cut off fruits ! now, we r left with veggies, tofu, carrots, beans, mushrooms, fish, chicken breast, coffee no sugar, tea no sugar. COFFEE AND GREEN TEA IS EXCELLENT for liver. thats it. seriously.... and boil or steam them only... no oil please. boring isnt it? but you need to reverse your fatty liver back to heathy liver isnt it or die. which do u choose? one way to know is ultrasound, but another is simple blood test for AST AND ALT level ! simple! if they fall back to healthy range, you are likely succeed. just 2-3 months and u can have SIGNIFICANT improvement ! also, you can continue to exercise as it works hand in hand with your diet ! no smoking please at all. stop that lame useless "cool" habit. if your friends smoke, then just don't stay beside. lastly, we need to eat on time, after 7pm, do not eat anything until next afternoon 12pm is best, to allow our body to digest, and to burn off fat, when our body do not source from food intake, it will source from our body fat, that is how without exercising, fat can be reduced. that is a superior way to burn off fat from liver just by fasting! again this is temporarily until you reverse fatty liver. I REPEAT as summary, 1) EXERCISE AND SWEAT IT OUT. 2) EAT NO CARBOHYDRATES, SUGAR AND FRUITS 3) SLEEP WELL ON TIME SO WE DONT STRESS OUR ORGANS LETTING THEM REST AND HEAL FROM INFLAMMATION 4) EAT AT THE RIGHT TIME TO PREVENT ORGANS FROM NOT ABLE TO REST AND RECOVER FROM INFLAMMATIONS AND TOXINS. 5) FASTING AFTER DINNER TILL NEXT LUNCH, OR AT LEAST NEXT BREAKFAST (NOTE THAT YOU DO NOT OVEREAT TO MAKE UP FOR THE HUNGER, THAT IS FASTING MISTAKE AND WILL BACK FIRE). YOU ARE ALLOW TO DRINK WATER AND MAKE SURE YOU DO. last tips, whole milk are high in sugar and fat too ! you think milk sound good, but not for diabetes and fatty liver patient. also no butter ! and i do not eat egg while trying to reverse my fatty liver. IT WORKS! im sharing you and the world, because i lost my father due to liver problem. and i have fatty liver. we were very uninformed and uneducated with our lifestyle. doctors often just see us 5 mins and we FO. they do not explain to us , they just say its fat. its wrong. its sugar and carbohydrates we do not understand at all. doctors like to condescending us. they feel like they r so high to behave like a real human and we r just another animals from part of their job. TRUST ME, you tell whatever i said to any doctors, they cant disagree, BUT THEY DIDNT SAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and ginger, we must not over consume! while it is good, over consume is too heaty, and liver cant take it! heaty is bad for liver. so dont be theoretical .

Thank you for sharing your experience & diet. I am just newly diagnosed with severe fatty liver. I am in my early 60s & haven't been exercising & had been eating a lot of carbs & fatty foods. My doc. told me that I need to eat more veggies & healthy fats. Now that I read how you reversed your fatty liver disease I am going to try your method. I have already changed my diet even before I was diagnosed with this problem. I had started eating chicken, not breasts but drumsticks & thighs, but I realised now why you're using breast because of the non fat content. I usually baked my chicken & salmon with herbs. Chicken baked with salt, tumeric & rosemary. Salmon with salt, dill & sliced ginger. But now I see that by steaming the fish will be better as no oil is involved & there isn't any problem for me in boiling the chicken breast. I usually par boil my veggies & add salt later. But sometimes I added oyster sauce & now I have to cut that off too. Bummer! I have stopped drinking tea with sugar & sticking to drinking warm water & chamomile tea. I find my stomach is much happier this way. The only trouble for me will be doing the intermittent fasting. I have bad acid reflux & am prescribed with Lansoprazole just recently. I am going to wean myself off that meds. eventually but for now I am hesitant to do so since I am going on a trip. I get hungry & find that if I don't eat I feel terrible, jittery inside & tummy full of gas. So I found that by eating sour dough bread or boiled sweet potatoes helped to bring balance back. Now that you're saying no carbs, I will have to see if it's possible for me to not eat the bread, sweet potatoes & yogurt. But I will still eat oat meals with a bit of salt. No salt no energy. It will be baby steps for me to start doing what you're doing. But thank you so very much for sharing your diet & results. It really put my mind at ease that this fatty liver problem is reversible with a strict diet. I am not obese just lacking exercise. I am told to exercise by the dietitian 10 mins after every meal. I walked around my house briskly when I can't go outside to walk. Somehow I lost 12 lbs within a month & half. Didn't think I would lose weight this fast. It's my belly fat that needs to go 🤣.

As u sleep , u get by the hungry without knowing. But when u sleep, ur hunger is happening, ur body couldn’t burn energy from food, so it burn energy from fats , cholesterol, sugar … this is exactly what u want to activate. To reach the organs fats. If u exercise, u r burning at fast rate, causing u to become hungry fast, but because u r awake, u will eat something , that will again make up. Like - then +. Ur burning will never reach ur organ. @@zoya6681 My symptoms aren't the usual symptoms of fatty liver. I only knew l have severe fatty liver was after having an ultrasound. My first symptom was more related to border line diabetes & digestive issue. For two weeks I had frequent bowel movements then the feeling of emptiness in my tummy that set off my panic attack. During these time I thought by eating sandwich & a cup of hot chocolate drink would help me but it was only temporary fix. I went to my doc. for help & she got me to do some blood work which showed I am a border line diabetic with high level of iron & magnesium. Other than that everything is normal. Then after the ultrasound she said I have severe fatty liver. Anyway, I had been searching for a good plan to help me lose the fat & I recently I read someone followed a 28 days diet/detox plan which seemed helped reversed the fatty liver issue & how to upkeep the liver. I have bought the ebook & am going to follow the plan. It's title is "The non alcoholic fatty liver disease solution by Julissa Clay. It's much better explained by this lady. As to your other question, I don't steam my chicken. I baked my chicken. But I do boil chicken drumsticks to make stock & eat the meat. So I don't know if whether this answered your question. This is still quite new to me & unfortunately I am on holiday & is trying my best to do my diet which isn't that easy. 😬

If you already have some scaring that's irreversible. If your liver is just fatty then it can help and prevent long term diseases.
My sister had it, however she didn't change her diet, or her lifestyle, she was expected to live a normal life with the medicine and all that stuff, yet she ate cheese daily, bread after every meal and she drank coffee everyday. She developed liver failure and she's passed away after 4 years. She didn't exercise and she would sleep less than 5 hours.
All those things killed her, but it was her decision, she didn't want to give the "pleasure of eating" for a healthy diet.

It is much more complicated. First, weight loss can't be maintained in the long run by usual high-proteic low calories dietes. For 3-5 months, 1200 calories a day and then 800 calories /day leads to weight loss. But this regime is difficult. It could be replaced or followed by a keto diet. The Keto diet is basically a very low net carb (below 50 g/day) and high fat (a bit more than protein intake) for the calories balance. A Keto diet leads to rapid loss of weight as a result of reducing insulin resistance. You may find more about insulin resistance and the keto diet by searching YT. Bear in mind that the keto diet is also very complex. Much more complex than just "high fat, low carb". There are lots of metabolic changes that should be closely monitored and side effects controlled. Still, the keto diet is the ultimate way to significantly improve health status.

@@zairnermuller4960 At the origin of her health problem was most likely the excess in net carbs. Not the coffee, not the cheese. Coffee does not kill. Cheese (fermented!) is good for health. But everything in excess of 1 loaf of bread per day is too much. The human body is not designed to process high quantities of net carbs. Insulin resistance kills. It starts many years before any modification in the blood glycemia and slowly damages all organs, by destroying the blood vessels, starting with the fine ones (brain, retina, kidney)

Of course this might be (even) harder perhaps for the higher BMI group, but if insulin resistance is the key driver, then that aligns with a percentage of the population also having NAFLD while lean, right? Vegetable oils have been proven to be horrible for us. I don’t understand why they’re being recommended here

Sometimes it us not just the vegetable oils but the chemicals used in processing and preservation of the shelve life of the oil that causes most of the problems.

I just found out that I have NAFLD AS WELL AS TYPE2 DIABETES.
From what I understand I can reverse my NAFLD/Diabetes thru diet and excerise. Is this true?
And if so, what foods and drinks should l never have?

    • @calliegal235
      @calliegal235 Год назад

Linda, how are you doing? Yes, it is true. Check the comments on the topic of diabetes when you watch people I listed below. They know statins cause diabetes and they don't make a significant difference in longevity (Ken Berry). Exercise can help keep blood sugar low. Please see Eric Berg about the exercise; it has value but not always a help losing weight. No sugars, no vegetable oils, no grains. Must read labels. Heavy whipping cream is fine; not milk products like regular or skin milk nor almond or soy milk. No soy (see Berg). Organic pastured raised eggs (omega ratios matter). For fruits only berries and no juices. Lemon water (see Berg on vinegar, lemon water, kidney stones - as in how to avoid). I like Berg D3K2; K2 tells body where to put calcium. Everyone needs this supplement. Learn about magnesium; Carolyn Dean. You might like Dr Mary Newport's story on Alzheimer's because what helped was coconut oil and this is a good oil to add to your diet. I add it to my coffee with heavy whipping cream. Check out Eric Berg keto for beginners, Ken Berry, Jason Fung, Pradip Jamnadas etc.

Is this diet suitable with other conditions as well? I complained for years of RUQ pain. I had kidney stone issues so liver was originally over looked and I had my kidney stented. In the last few weeks I've also been diagnosed with UC, BAM and NAFLD. I'm low on iron and phosphate as my body is not able to absorb vitamins and minerals properly but yet fat accumulates on my liver while everything else goes through my system extremely fast.
I'm on a public wait list for a gastroenterologist but I've been warned it's a long wait.

Hope everything gets better. Had a gastro doc, never contacted me after ultrasound which said Fatty liver( since 2 to 3 months ago), even canceled last appointment on me. Keep looking and advocating for yourself. Still looking for a good one but not giving up.

I wish there were grocery stores that labeled foods according to what diet you were on or what condition you were trying to fox. There is no way I can take this info to the store and leave with the perfect foods for a met or keto diet. I'm just going to live on lettuce for awhile.

    • @calliegal235
      @calliegal235 Год назад

Dennis, no not just lettuce! You need some dietary fat. Your cell membranes are made out of fat. Fat helped me lose the last 33 lbs and maintain my weight at 120 lbs. Listen to Eric Berg on keto for beginners & recipes. I did strict keto with IF for 6 months. I'm more ketovoire now. You need to eat real food; avoid any pre made items, except some of the cauliflower crusts pizzas; read their labels cause some are better ingredients. Also Costco has a good grass-fed cooked, sliced, beef package in the refrigerator/freezer section. Don't eat sugar, vegetable oils nor grains. Eat organic pasture raised eggs. If you can, also pasture raised/finished grass-fed beef, wild salmon (even canned) sardines, shrimp; nothing "farmed." If you drink coffee you can have organic heavy whipping cream with it. Check out Ken Berry, Paul Mason, Jason Fung, Pradip Jamnadas. Also see Dr Roger Seheult on Vit D3 and K2 and light. Get rid of condiments with sugar or vegetable oils. Get healthy.
