Some people say that Singapore is very strict. I look at this video and I think the people seemed to be enjoying themselves. Unlike many countries, Singapore does not have a policy of assimilation because the government finds this a violent process. Instead, people get to celebrate their own language and culture on the condition that they give back to society. I think the Singapore political system works very well to bring people from all walks of life together.

    • @SuccessforLifester

Actually a policy of assimilation exists in public housings. They make sure that every block of flats is multiracially represented.

@@SuccessforLifesterThat's not assimilation, strictly speaking. The minorities very much retain their cultural traditions and beliefs. They don't have to conform to the cultural beliefs and values of the ethnic majority nor are they forced to learn their language.

@@aero.l I get what you mean. More like tolerance and acceptance. I have to endure my Indian national incense burning and his frequent loud voices, talking on hp and his screaming children who often stomp across my door and also probably broke a stack of my clay pots.

It must be on a Sunday or a public holiday. These are migrant construction and cleaning workers from India, Bangladesh on their rest day and they gather in Little India to shop and meet up with friends. For lesser crowd go on a weekday.

Fun fact: there is that sign about the fighting because in 2013, there was a big riot in that area among the Bangladeshi workers that caused much damage n injuries. And Singapore now has the no public alcohol consumption after 10pm because of the riot. Before that, people were free to drink any time they want.

Mustafa Center is a good solid departmental store where you can find almost anything you might want. It is said they offer better prices because they bring in products in bulk. Some items are priced slightly lower than market prices because they are brought in from countries that have better exchange rates differences but of the same quality. For household items, most locals will browse online for good deals or visit value stores like Mustafa if they are items that you need/want to view in-person to test or examine first hand.
And yes, it is fairly common for people to spend a couple of hours simply browsing Mustafa Centre simply because of how big it is and also of the insane amount of products they carry. I hope you've enjoyed exploring this corner of Singapore. 😇

Yeah cos it’s a Sunday. Its the time where the indian/bangladeshi workers meet up during their off day. Thus the crowd on Sunday. Other days less crowded.
Nearing to Deepavali will also have massive crowds and fairs arnd little india.
Mustaffa Centre usually are cheaper price than others out there. And u can find various brands/items there which u cant find elsewhere. Pple do currency exchange there too near the entrance. Used to be 24/7 but since covid they revise the timing.
You can try hmm azmi chaapathi for an awesome chaapathi, Usman Restaurant for pakisthani and naan. Also bangladeshi food arnd the area as well.

Nearly half of Singapore's workforce is made up of exploited cheap foreign labor from 3rd world countries. Nearly all the people you saw in the video are such people. These people are in Singapore on "work permits" so they have no rights to have their family members with them. These "permits" do not permit immigration so these very, very low paid workers must leave once the term is up. Without exploited cheap foreign labor, the Singapore economy would collapse.

At least these migrant workers are in SG voluntarily and are protected by labour laws, unlike some Western countries that build up themselves by genociding the indigenous, shackling foreign laborers in chains and enslaved them to get to their current level of development.
