- Mercedes c220 manual gearbox had no reverse gear and second gear was very difficult to select so replaced the gearbox as trying to repair the box would be far to costly

Alan knows his audience - put the Monica content right at the end so we watch the whole thing. Great video as always 👍
Thanks for a longer drive Monnie, you're still looking great.
I've never watched anyone work on a Merc before but the way this thing bolts together makes it look like a lot of thought has gone in to the repairability compared to other makes.
Maybe they knew it needed a lot of repairs ?
Suppose at Merc labour rates they thought well after 1 hour fix we make a fortune
All them covers under the car has kept the body and mechanicals in nice condition.
Except the brake lines that rust away out of sight.
GOOD to see you back miss HAR-monica ❤❤❤
This is testament to how well engineered the W204 is. Mating a gear box to an engine is like having to dock with the ISS. It is always a relief once the garbox is back in place. The replacement gearbox is peace of mind for the buyer. Did you check the rear subframe? They're prone to corrosion but the 30 year corrosion warranty that Mercedes-Benz offers will cover this.
w204 is same as 203 its just the body different i work on mecrs
@@nemzrepairsthat's interesting are they not the ones that were made cheaply and rust alot so really the w204 is old technology underneath
ISS is fake news
That release bearing is worn where it meets with the cover plate fingers. Just dealing with this on my 2008 Audi S5. Rough pedal movement on a hot engine, bite point too low and vibration at high RPM. Audi replaced loads under warranty. The revised bearing has a metal face instead of the dumb plastic original. Thanks to LuK for trying to save a few pennies!
Oh, Moni!😍😍😍
Excellent explanation throughout and a job well done! 👌
Fantastic content Alan!! "Thank You"😇
Speaks volumes of MB build quality if a gearbox lasts 70k miles
Great job Monika, Alan and Tyler👌👍🙏🙂
Hi Alan,a job well done as usual. This merc should sell quite fast.
Hello. The ladies in the office are beautiful and funny. You are also funny and a person I like to watch.
Great Info, Thanks Alan.
Monnie has the best chassis by far
German engineering is not what it was 40 years ago, anything German these days needs constantly fixing.
Rough old engine in the 220 as well, a good spec Mondeo is a far better car in my opinion, many times more reliable, smoother engine, gearboxes dont fail and you dont have a badge tax at garages for repairs.
Yes I've had a Merc C350 Estate and it was a total nightmare for things going wrong.
Never again.
I have a Mk4 Mondeo and a w204 both purchased 10 years ago. Both great cars but the maintenance and repairs have been 3 times as much for the W204. Partly I think because the Mondeo has been incredibly cheap to run rather than the W204 being a bad car.
Great video excellent price. Lovely car
It will be the selector mechanism in gearbox there’s a spring that breaks causing this issue done quite a few
How difficult is it to replace the part.?
@@DatsDone not to bad couple of hours
Monika s knees are looking good.....i still would have sent the old box for diagnosis.....more of the knees please....
Perv
Another good video alan, good to see a merc on the channel, last merc i had merc vito 2007 ,, taxi 418k on the clock when i sold it,,, not bad cars but as everyone knows merc main dealer are way to pricey.
Dont trust modern Mercs but well worth watching lovely Mons. Thanks
That SAC looks knackered judging by the length of the springs on pressure plate
If the gearbox is out best practice is to change the clutch
Agreed if you own the car, and you are having the work done. But if you are selling a car, you need to make a judgement call and weigh up how much time you have available vs having a cars problems sorted
Then you're into a slave and master, dual mass.....
Absolute minimum no matter ho owne the car is to change the slave, If its internal
@@pellepp9628 but it’s easier to do the job whilst he’s already got the box out than possibly get it back under warranty in a few months time he’s halfway through the job with the box out
I'd normally agree, but it looks a dead easy job to remove the box on that Merc - so why would you if it's fine as-is
Nice car - Seats arent leather in these though - they're Mercedes synthetic 'Artico' vinyl. The drivers seat bases always split - my mates a trimmer and repairs at least 2 a week. Some logical engineering making the gearbox swap stress free. 👍 Hill starts with the foot handbrake and manual box arent the easiest!
Oh Alan just buy it you know you want it😜I’m sure they will give u a decent discount and favourable finance👌
My friend James Josh the leprechaun would absolutely love this beauty
Alan i love Mercedes cars and the ford focus st focus
I have one too.
It's the only 6 speed manual in Australia.
I appreciate the video.
Having a box that wants to not go into reverse. And slips into 4th to 5th.
Still hoping it's a linkage issue. Just because after stolen.. it feels different.
Would have an old merc any day over these modern ones. Nice to see monika and her leg's 😂
Can you confirm if the dpf is cracked i noticed quit a lot of soot after the dpf
Alan wonder if you could give me advice,, ive a 2009 ford galaxy 1.8 tdci ,, ive got a squeel from a pully wheel ive been spraying it with wd40 silicone spay to take away the noise,, should i do a timing belt &pulleys ( think its a bad pulley) while iam there
I went straight to 17:00 when Monica made her appearance and doesnt that Merc suit her.
Thanks for posting
Cheers pal
Morning Alan, hope all well m8
Mondeo Question - occasionally on my Mark 5 the wipers seem to catch on the down position when on - doesn’t stop them working but have you ever come across it and is there a fix ?
Ive got a problem with ds7r 7000 from mk2 s max 2.0D- replaced the gearbox but IT slides. Any idea if IT needs to be programmed into the car with sth more than forscan tool? Cheers
Dobra prace
Handbrake on them cars is daft IMO
put oil in before mounting saves the agro
67,000 miles isn't a lot for a gearbox.
why would you not change the clutch
Would you buy a 63 plate automatic c220 with 140k on clock, I use it daily, faultless.
Can I pick your brains - my wipers occasionally catch on something - on the drivers side I can see that the wiper arm touches the bonnet and the passenger side doesn’t - that means the bonnet needs adjusting, is it easy to do ?
I’d have put a new Starsky and Hutch in that all day
I only clicked for the thumbnail 🤷♂
That Monica is well fit
After you have fixed the car its value also should raise
Not long ago rebuilt one of these boxes and probably one of the the easiest gearboxes to rebuild and best of all every tiniest part available from Mercedes
Perhaps you could give Alan a heads up on what the issue with the reverse gear is and repair before he throws it in the scrap.
@@DatsDone simply selector mech was broken about £400 from Mercedes and it’s a common problem reverse and first gear wouldn’t engage in my case
Can you state the part location and tools required to remove n replace. You said you recently rebuilt a gear box.
If Monica came with the car worth double
Should have removed the DPF and cleaned it out.
Nice job Alan, must have made a refreshing change from those rusty Fords
Looks like a Renault gearbox.
should have dropped a clutch in it ..
This looks like a very low mileage gearbox fault.
you are getting worse with your videography, every time you looked at the gearlever, monica's legs were in shot...
more rear action is possible now, should be more fun on a quick ride
did you chuck a clutch in?
The Germans build the best cars
Oh dear, those ZF boxes, some of these had riveted ring gears, which promptly grenaded after xxx miles
