  • had a 2003 renault clio 1.2 116valve with 107k miles on the clock traded in for one hundred pounds, after a full inspection of the vehicle we decided it would be too costly to fix it up and sell it so we scrapped it, shame as the bodywork was very good.

    Some kid would love that for a first car. Sell it 'spares or repair' for £500. Winner winner, chicken dinner!

  • @BigPaul62

    For £100 you ought to buy that for your boy to practise on. It would be done for when he passes his test. In my opinion It is more environmentally friendly to fix up an old car like that than build a new one.

    Renault learned their lesson from the 70's when cars like the R.16, R.6 and R.4 used to rot underneath really badly, although usually quite easy to repair the flat floor, which rusted on the corners. The going rate around our way is £325 for a car like that, so maybe as well to compare other scrap companies prices Alan.

    Great stuff Monika, Alan and Tyler, its a shame as the body work on all French cars hold pretty well, but yes there was a little too much to be done on such an old car to make a few pound on it👌👍🙏😎

    Renault still makes the Clio, unlike a Ford Mondeo. Not having a go, just saying. Love the Mondeo and the channel. Cheers Alan 🍻

    • @gimble447
      @gimble447 9 месяцев назад

      True but only because that size of car has been superceded by the small SUV in demand, the Mondeo was a very competent large family hatch ( I only say large family hatch because really a focus is the idea of a family hatch these days)

    most of those are common problems with the clio and easy to fix as i had a 2001 clio . water coming in the footwells will be the front scuttle drain plug blocked which is at the bulkhead inside engine bay .quick poke of wire up the pipe soon cleared it .... all clio sunroofs leak after 10 years as the cork gasket degrades , its a quick unbolt and replace job and only an hour job and £10 part. my headlights were worse than that and a quick buff with cutting paste and they like brand new . took me half an hour to get them like new ..... i had no rust at all on my clio as front and rear wings are plastic . they seem to have common problem with rocker cover gaskets leaking oil though as they were factory crappy cork gaskets from new . replace that for wot £50 and good as gold ..wish i had kept my 2001 clio now cos it was in mint condition but i thoought it had serious engine issues as could smell hot metal burning at top of engine like camshaft not getting oil but in hindsight it could have been sorted cheaper than buying another second hand car which i have done and now and face repairs because the head gasket has blown from when i bought it and previous owner has put gasket sealer in and its buggered up everything costing me nearly £2000 to put right now . gasket sealer or radiator sealer is a quick fix as a last resort , not a permanent repair , soon as u can get it repared properly.... oh by the way all clios have a high biting point on the clutch for some reason. they have very short travel clutch on the pedal and i had brand new clutch fitted and it was still high... rear coil springs must last forever, my car was 2001 on original springs , the fronts snapped in 2 places but i didnt know about it as it still drove ok with no nocks or rattles but it did look cool being lower on the front ,lol

    I believe the way for the garage to get away with giving warranty is to sell it as a part rather than a car. You charge value of the car + VAT or something, read it in Car Mechanics magazine some time ago, but I suppose it's too litle money for the effort though.

    Alan, one question about 2.0 tdci mondeo mk5 😊 How to clean inlet channels in the cylinder head? This is some kind of nightmare that inlet is integrated with cylinder head… Is there any safe way to get rid of that tar and soot and don’t let it get to the valves or cylinders? 😮 Without taking out whole cylinder head od course 😅

    yeah my first car was 1.2 cleo 74k on it was actually a lovly car too but problems with them. i say problem there were alot with mine over 4 years owning it i did love it and i do miss it but even i knew throwing money at a car that isnt going to last much longer it wasnt worth keeping it especally as mine did 114k in the end and heading towards the 120k mark. just scraped through it last mot. just cost more than it was worth in the end. but for a starter car you really couldn't go wrong with them 2003 cleo expresion (yes the bog o standered one) with just electric windows no air con so you deffo felt heat in summer jeasus and a sunroof that actully worked. all in all i did love it and was sad to see it go now i have a 10 plate focus ive now owned just over 5 years and will proberly be looking to change again soon with cost of tax and insureance going through roof and running it. but good video though and shame it couldn't be saved but hopefully scrap yard can make most of it and put it to some use.
