Nice. I am 52 and started to lift about 2 years ago after 20 years of Ironman racing. Two years ago while I was still good at endurance sports I could not walk down the stair without knee pain. It was time to make some adjustments. While I was very fit, I was not healthy. I stopped triathlons cold turkey. Started to lift. Almost immediately I felt 15 years younger. Now that I have build some strength and mobility I am introducing jogging back into my life. No plans to race but only to regain some of that cardio engine. Lifting 3 times a week, jogging 3 times a week and a day of whatever exercise I feel like does the trick. Thanks for sharing some good information.
By heavy weight training you get more testosteron in your system, that is why you feel much better. Stop that endurance training no use at all. Do interval short stints, much more return on investment.
@@nukenabber7228 there is no reason why both cannot be done. As we get older focus on strength and cardio. Being strong and not being able to jog or briskly walk 2-3 miles without being out of breath is pretty much as useless as being able to run a 40 minute 10k but not being able to carry more than 2 groceries bags at a time.
@@FitAfter50I am 52 and a distance inline speed skater. Inline skating has almost no wear and tear on your body. I can easily skate 20-30 miles, that is leg day and a great workout. Lots of tutorials on YT how to do it right. Best to wear full protection - Even though I'm doing it forever I do because of the high speeds. That can really compliment upper body workouts!
@@alb12345672 that's is pretty cool and a rare sport. I have seen endurance skaters when I was tri training, those guys were flying! Winter is pretty much here. I will stick to the indoor bike for a bit and if there is snow, cross country skiing would be fun. Snow shoveling maybe. I just refuse to purchase a snow blower 🙂
this is a really good video Paul....you not only demo'd the exercise you also explained the why's of doing it the correct way. Wish more folks did their videos this way
Thank you for showing the instructions on how to do these correctly. I'm forty and trying to get myself in shape. Something I wish would have done a long time ago. These videos are well appreciated
Paul. Thank you for making these videos. I am 62 and have been lifting since before I went into the military. These workouts are super challenging and inspiring. Keep it up.
It's about time you finally broke out and showed us how to look like you!......I've looked at you for MONTHS and wondered.....Why doesn't this guy give lessons?....Hats off my brother! You've given me pearls! Thank you!
I have been waiting and waiting for this. Great no bull shit presentation without silly big talks and research papers. A big Thank You from Sri Lanka.💪💪💪💪💪
Just joined your channel.I’m 55 years old and keeping myself in good athletic shape. I’ve watched your biceps exercises very carefully-and I’m going to tweak my technique just slightly. My arms are almost where I want them in proportion with everything else. I’ll let you know how I get on. Thank you very much. Best wishes Richard from Liverpool uk
Here's a trick I've used for years to help me keep symmetrical. When working bis, tris or forearms individually, I always do my dominate side first. This has a phycological effect on me, because it raises the bar for my non-dominate side performance. If I do my non-dominate hand first, the goal is too low for reps. Thanks for this.
I have always performed dumbell curls buy starting and finishing the movement with my arms by my sides. Keeping palms up and resting on thigh at bottom for curls makes a massive difference. Very impressed with this simple tweek to add time under tension and take the shoulder out of it when I tried it tonight. Great superset with hammer curls to thigh. Brutal finishier after pull ups. Great video Paul.
Hi Paul, thanks for posting great informative and motivational exercise content. I am really appreciating these videos longer in length, and that go in-depth and step by step in the basic exercises - and the main pitfalls. You go for efficiency and effectiveness. The books and magazines I have, seldom hit the level and content you publish. So as 50+ doing regular exercises, thank you for the great stuff you contribute. Greetings from 🇳🇱
Literally just followed this session to a T (almost, I couldn't do the arms out push-ups) absolutely outstanding, Paul. Burnt my biceps/triceps out completely, and I had an amazing pump going. What I love about your videos is the way you explain everything and give us reps/sets. What a guy 👏
Amazes me the first thing never discussed for arms isn’t pull-ups and dips. Best superset for arms there is. Work up to 50 or 190 of each and you’ll leave the gym swole!!!
wow thats was one of the most informative video and straight forward instruction and to the point without any bla bla i just love it keep it that way man yo are great 👍👍🦾
I disagree. I have wide and broad shoulders so I don't need to pose at all. However, yes, arms are also a good indicator for an overall strong body. But arms alone - no.
Hi Paul, I'm 43 years old and in good shape. I've always trained with a lower upper twice a week. I want to try a full body workout 3 times a week every other day. At my age do you think that workout split would be effective or should I stick with the lower upper twice a week?
If you are seeing the results you want, don't change anything. If not, a change is needed. I split my workouts and train 5x/week. It's all detailed in my training program.
Im a new viewer. Your workout is close to what I'm already doing and im older. Im curious about your dimensions, height, weight. Great stuff and obviously great results.
Physical dominance? It's your neck. You can tell if a man is a real man or not based on the size of his neck. Maybe his ankles and his wrist also but basically it's from bone structure. This guy knows without a shadow of a doubt there could be an overweight construction worker with thick neck and thick wrists and tiny arms and he would easily destroy this man. It wouldn't even be close. Some of those men have grip strength over 240 pounds per hand
No, do a video about how to get bigger and still fit in the clothes you had before, none of you ever think about that, so maybe not bigger, unless one can afford a completely new wardrobe of clothes, maybe reduce fat and increase muscle a bit
The reason everyone thinks your on steroids Paul is because either you have 1 in a million genetics or you are indeed on steroids. You are to thick and ripped , one or the other would be believable but both is almost always trt at the very least. If you are one of the people that thinks trt even at normal doses is not cheating or any serious advantage then you must be delusional.
Love your channel! I am 52, but l look younger. I have a decent upper body, but my abs need work. I had a severe low back injury that required a spinal fusion on the L-5 S-1. I have titanium rods that support an insert where the disc used to be. What kind of exercise can I do to get my abs strong again? Thanks!
Paul I really Appreciate this video but I think I've already hurt my shoulders doing curls with what I thought was the proper form until I watched your instruction. Maybe it's a tendon tear. I've always had great difficulty in building any kind of strength and muscularity but started taking the creatine/HMB product you suggested to see what happens. I've never been able to feel a pump after an exercise set. Is getting that pump important ? Anyway, I have to say again that you look incredible. Hard to believe that one could maintain your level of physical perfection into his 50's. The size of your bicep peaks is astonishing. You look like you have rock bulging from under your skin ! I know genetics has to play a role in part but at the same time you obviously work very hard at it as the videos show.
This is a great training video! What makes it GREAT, you visually explaining the benefits of proper body mechanics, as well the cons of bad form. By your example, I have been performing incorrect hammer curls (I'll bring them more fwd). Seeing a fellow "Veteran Gym Bro" crush it, I have to SUBSCRIBE. I'll check your content. Semper Fidelis!
Paul, great video! I was looking through your video library trying to find content as to sets, reps, and days in the week you do arms. Do you have push/pull days or focus on body parts like; chest/back, biceps/triceps/shoulders and then legs. As an older lifter with a goal to have a well rounded physic, it makes sense to copy/follow what is working for older guys that have great bodies. Any feedback would be great. Thanks.
Paul great explain, may I ask you a question. I'm 64 year of age and starting to go to the gym again after a lot of years. Someone told me that there is no program for 60+ years and that I should concentrate on cardio? What is your opinion about this. I love to hear from you please and keep up the great work educating us. Greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱.
That’s a load of crap that someone told you - cardio is great but resistance exercise is a must. And there’s nothing special about being 60 vs 30 other then you might need to use less weight and take more time to recover. Just pick a basic plan with push-ups/crunches/air squats and some sort of row movement and do those for a few months and see where ur at.
Hey Paul, Paul here. As others mentioned in their comments, this was a great informative and structural video on the correct DO's for bi's and tri's. Thanks and keep up the great work. You got me hooked !!
