You're right about the grotesquely high prices of static models, and these FMS vehicles, as well as having RC play value, make perfectly satisfying alternatives. In fact, this looks so realistic that, when I saw the giant oil drum lying on its side @ 7:06 I experienced a moment of genuine astonishment till my brain recalibrated my idea of the size of the truck I was watching.
These things are awesome... I wish there were 1/10 and 1/6 scale versions with actual hard bodies instead of lexan. Just as detailed. That would be pretty awesome. Lol. It just sucks that the RC world is SO expensive when in reality, the things they're comprised of really aren't all that expensive to produce.
What hurts the most is people justifying that expensive thing. Like a set of 3 bolts for "rc" are as costly as an entire packet of those same size bolts which contain probably 80 90. Also its all plastic, maybe a little metal here or there but plastic. People are making tons of money in the rc world

So many RUclipsrs out there refer scale to a wheelbase or size. Its refreshing when someone just compares it to a 1/1 properly. 👍 That rig is so nice, but to find out what vehicle is closer to 1/18 you’re gonna need to know the length of the two 1/1’s? Pretty sure the Chevy is a half ton and the hylux is a quarter ton? So the Chevy should be a bit bigger? They both look amazing regardless! Thanks for sharing Phil! 👍👌
Yes, it’s more than just the wheelbase, but I also think a lot of manufacturers also use just the wheelbase. I also get a lot of comments on the smaller 1/6 scale stuff, saying ‘it’s to small for 1/6’….because it’s not the size of an Xmaxx or similar 😅
Oooh, I absolutely love this! How long until someone makes a 3D printed cab extension to turn it into the Xtra Cab version? I'd love to make a Marty McFly truck! Edit: upon further inspection, this is definitely an '84 or '85 Hilux, not an '83. The scale works out to 1:14.5.
Would you happen to know of any after market smart chargers that are compatible with these tiny batteries? Not too fond of using the included USB charger. Also do you know of any adapters for the battery and ESC power wires? It’s an absolute pain to unplug the battery from the car and I can only imagine it’s only a matter of time before I pull a wire because of how tight the plugs are. Not to mention the wear and tear from unplugging and plugging in. I’m trying to find a female JST adaptor for the battery side but I cannot find anything.
On my friend's Civic, I know it's full scale, but I used a couple zener diodes and resistors to get the taillights to work. They had 2 panels and had to work with 3 functions. I wonder if there's something smaller, but I only took a year of electrical engineering at a community college.
My grandpa had a blue 2wd with the 22r engine I think , that's where I learned to drive a manual trans. I might just have to get one and paint it blue. I haven't looked to see the color options yet. Not sure what they called the American version pickup like my Grandpa's. Many years ago. Sucks getting old. Lol.
Would the Hilux be safe to use on pavement or just dirt & off road? I'm seriously considering purchasing one but don't have much actual dirt or anything like that around where I live & would be mostly using it.

Really surprised that you don't have more subs. I always assumed you had over a million subs based on your channel quality and how much you spend on the hobby.
