Having heard the lesser Adam T5Vs and T7Vs, I can only imagine how good these are. Their ribbon tweeters are so nice, like getting your ears licked by angel. I would agree as well with the sentiment that it's better to go something like 5" with sub over 7"/8" without. Next time it would be good to have a few sound demos to go along with the video, because there is little here about the sound quality.
bought the same setup. i have recieved the sub8 a few weeks later and i have to say i should have listened to the more experienced people. in my 13 square meter room the room modes made their presence known quite a bit after adding the sub so i have spent alot of time measuring and moving the thing untill it sounded acceptable. to everyone with a smaller bedroom studio thinking about adding this bundle or a sub in general...treat your room. the sub will bring out room modes even more and those will allways be there no matter what system you have. also decouple not only your main speakers but also the sub. last option is to save up for bigger main speakers like a7x and save yourself from the problems a sub adds. wouldnt recommend this setup in small room like mine. especially if the room is untreated.
getting an a7x instead of a sub won't save you the trouble. instead this time, you will be dealing with weird bass problems 'in stereo' (believe me; placement of two units that generate bass instead of one sub is more difficult). if the room is untreated, regardless of whatever is generating the bass frequencies (a sub or the speaker itself) you will be running into problems. (source: i am an acoustical engineer)
ayy I know Im late, but connecting is really easy. You connect your cables that are going from your interface to the sub's input, and you connect speakers (called satellites) from sub's output :) Thats it :)
Thank you for this video! I have been trying to discuss my situation with people for help determining which AX's would be best for me. What made you choose the A5X as opposed to the A3X?
Great video! I'm also upgrading directly from Z5500 to A5X + SUB8! Think I saw what looks like Acer XB271HU stand, same monitor as me also. You have great taste for sure :)
hey stan,,i really enjoyed the vid on these speakers,,i just got the A5X yesterday(listening to you now with them)im happy to see this cause i was wondering about the sub,,so im gonna get the sub8 after xmas....silly question where did you get that table behind you,,i need something that big for my setup,,,,my a5x are jammed next to my audioengine A5+ speakers and i need to spread them out.. cheers!!
1st time watching you and understand that 2 A5X + Sub 8 is better that a pair of A7X's. Thats fine. My question: How do you connect your music source to the speakers? Assuming your source has only 1 LEFT and 1 RIGHT output (Bal or Unbalanced).. where do you connect these? I think you also said that each. of A5X speakers have a OUTPUT connector to connect to the other speaker? If so I assume the amplifier in the "satellite" will NOT be working and so the amp from one speaker will be driving both units? Surely the sound would then be NOT as good if the amps from both speakers are used? But assuming you connect left and right speakers to your source, how then do you connect the SUB? Assuming you connect your source to the SUB and then connect the output from the Sub to your A5X's individually, would the A5X's be powered by the SUB's amplifier or ??? Apologies if I am too long winded...I am 57 yrs old ;)
There is a crossover in the sub. Connect your audio source to the sub's inputs. Connect the satellites to the sub's outputs. Read the sub's manual. I have a similar setup.
Hello, I like to comment that the signal from the sub8 to the satellites is made by the line signal not by the power output. Each satellite works with its own power. The sub 8 only forwards the audio signal and its control handles the entire system with a single control.
Hey. I have a computer with an ae-9 sound card and would like to buy these speakers. How to connect them to this card? to take full advantage of the quality of this card.
Depends on the studio size, to get a good sound from a7x you will have to crank up the volume a bit more aggressive than with a5x, hence if your studio is not that big and you sit right in front of your speakers then a5x+sub would be a better option. A good feature which comes along with monitors+sub is an option to disable sub and use only monitors if it's too late in night and you don't want to make your neighbours come for you.
Sorry for a dumb question that I'm having a hard time finding out in the specs. Does the sub volume (and sub remote volume) also control the satellite out levels together (so basically you can use the remote to turn the whole system up and down in sync like a good old fashioned hifi volume)? thanks.
@@SuprUsrStan does it crack under pressure when you turn it up? Does it fart? Id really like it to reproduce a low c ( around 31hz i think.) without any effort really.
@@futurebeats898 Oh sorry, I don't know the technicals about exactly how low it goes. It is able to keep up without cracking. It is substantially better than the Sub7 which does fart when turned up too much.
Thanks for this review. You said the magic words I needed to hear about the choice between 5's with a sub and 7's without... I just ordered the 5's and was thinking I made a mistake because originally I was going to get the 7's. I was wondering if I was going to need the sub when I didn't get the 7's. Now you're making me think this was a happy accident and I just need to pick up the sub. Wondering how you've been liking them since you got them? I'm upgrading my home studio from KRK 5's. Thanks!
Definitely. It's pretty common for the subwoofer not too match the monitors, as sometimes subwoofer manufacturers don't make speakers and vice versa. I use JBL monitors and a KRK subwoofer, works great.
That's some upgrade - Logitech computer speakers to Adam monitors! No faffing about with HiFi speakers in-between. I have a similar setup, but with Genelec 5" monitors and 8" sub. The Genelecs have built-in tilting isolation stands, so they aren't that much more expensive overall. You are right, this is definitely the way to go if you want quality sound.

You'd need a sub with 7's regardless (in my humble opinion). For pure extension I'd get a Sub10 Mk2 rather than a Sub8 for A5X's.

How do you detach the legs of sub8? so it can place on the iso200SUB
