    This one of the better reviews I have seen of these speakers. Quick tip though, I noticed the camera was focusing and refocusing a lot and I think you should find were it sits best and leave it there. Otherwise, very nice review!!!

    I don't consider the A7Xs an upgrade, but more a substantially good addition to any studio. I'll be honest, I get very far with 3 sets of monitors. I use the HS8, HS50M with a low cut at 80Hz, and a pair of Avantones. I'll say, if I was to get any pair of speakers having a pair of good monitors already, I would suggest getting the Avantones first. Hands down. The A7Xs to me are like a pair of Sony MDR7506, I would use them to find high frequency artifacts. For the lows, I use the HS8S sub and the Beyerdynamic DT880. I've really put some consideration in getting the A7Xs, but considering what everyone says about the highs, I think what I have already, they would just be redundant. With that said, a pair that I really think would add another dimension to my mixes with be the Genelec Series, maybe the 8341 SAM. I don't know...I'd say, save the money and but a pair of Avantones first before anything if you already own a pair of primary monitors.

    Did you try the high shelf or tweeter volume?

  • @nicko5566
    @nicko5566 4 года назад +1

    Your mic actually provided a different sound between the two with the Yamaha sounding muddy.
    Curious if you if you adjusted the low or high shelf as well as the tweeter? Those adjustments would align the two closer from an eq curve starting point. Do you also mix at 85db? That seems very hot. I wonder what your calibration would look as well as sound like at a mixing level.
    Seeing how my comment is a year and a half after the post, I wonder if you could do a follow up if you still have the Adam's?

    • @YHRS
      @YHRS  4 года назад

      I was surprised at how different the speakers sounded to my lav mic. I'd say that the ADAMs have more high frequency detail, but much less bass than the Yamahas.
      I've been meaning to do a follow-up video on these monitors, so hopefully I'll get around to it before too long.

    • @DamnDealDone

      85db is around where the human ear has the flattest frequency response, so it is perfect for analysis.

    Does the Yamaha's have the 3 dimensional soundstage & instrument separation like the A7X?

    • @YHRS
      @YHRS  5 лет назад

      I think that the Yamahas have very good stereo imaging. As for the "3D" sound, that's kind of hard to define. Since the Adams have such a good transient response, I think they can better represent both quiet and loud sounds at the same time. That might contribute towards a "deeper" or "3D" kind of impression. But the Yamahas are still nice and detailed, just not quite as much high-frequency detail as the Adams.

  • @neoaureus
    @neoaureus 4 года назад

    Adams are known to have a bright higher end.. is this agreeable ? secondly it is said that some kind of listening fatigue comes in after a while at the higher frequencies .... hear say , nothing authentic... would you agree?

    • @YHRS
      @YHRS  4 года назад +1

      Personally, I don't find the A7X high-frequency response to be fatiguing or unpleasant at normal volumes. If I crank them up past normal monitoring volumes, they can get a little piercing. But up to 85 dB I find them to be very detailed.

      I'd had them about a week, so maybe 5 or 6 hours of listening before I shot the video. I'm not a huge believer in how much the character of a speaker changes as the mechanical parts break in. It still sounded like an A7X right out of the box :)

      Can you please tell me how your mixes translated to let’s say your car????

  • @djvar94
    @djvar94 3 года назад

    Listen, there's nothing wrong with using MP3s when testing speakers. Yes, it might be a compressed format and blah blah blah, but 1) If you're using the highest quality MP3 320kbps with constant bitrate you really can't hear any difference in quality from an uncompressed .wav file, and 2) it still doesn't matter because you're still going to use the same file on 2 or more set of monitors, and if a monitor is good it doesn't just sound good with the most brilliant, shiny audio file format, it will sound great with the greatest ever, to the shittiest ever format. If you can hear the faults in the audio files, then that means you have yourself a really good set of monitors which allow you to really hear the faults clearly and make up for them when working on mixes and instruments/FXs.
    By the way, I think the Adam A7X are maybe not twice as better than the Yamahas but they definitely are a lot better. I mean heck, even just the front facing bass reflex ports and the front facing on/off and volume controls are incredibly important features. And the folded X-ART tweeter that doesn't cause ear fatigue nowhere near as much or as quickly as the traditional crappy 1" dome tweeter of Yahama & others cause even after just 1 hour or 2 even at lower levels. I have my Yamaha HS7s and after 2-3 hours working in my studio my ears feel like drunk and bleeding for how much fatigue they cause me. I can't wait to upgrade to Adam and finally be ear fatigue free. Oh, and also, you say the Adam sound very hot in the upper mid and high frequencies, very bright. Just as I read some others saying that. Well, I would bet my life that you didn't take the proper time to break them in for many hours. Trust me, break them in properly first, then judge them. I've seen other people saying that they sounded quite bright at first, quite too enhanced in the top end, but after breaking them in they really sounded a lot better and more balanced as they should be. You will never get the real experience from a brand new set of speakers or headphones before you break them in.

    I have never seen any of your videos I am making Home studio for TECHNO / INDUSTRIAL / EBM and heart of this room will be my monitors which I will be buying next week. I wanted to buy Yamaha HS7 but they cannot be shipped to my country for some reason from germany to Georgia (eu) the shop Thomann tells me that Yamaha prevents shipping into your country and all other monitors that I have seen comparing to Yamaha hs7 are crap Genelec and Neumann is too expensive where KRK sucks a lot for producing with its muddy unclear and incorrect sounding woofers also Tannoy sounds like bookshelf speaker not revealing anything at all and ADAM T7V is somehow not ENOUGH in the low frequencies Presonus looks too much for the POP and flashy vocals and I was like getting mad because I could not build studio of my dreams in my room which suits perfectly for a home studio so today I found your video about this beasts ADAM A7X which is ofcoarse a bit expensive but is worthy to buy with excellent control and sound you kinda saved my life here and made me do a decision since I cannot buy Yamaha hs7 I will go for A7X and thank you and your review was so clear nice and going to the main things that was interesting for me and you exactly explained how both speakers sounded like I did to a musical shopkeeper in my town. And you saved mine with this comment. I am on the exact same journey as you. I just bought he TV7's and I have no clue where the bottom went in my studio. I have used the Yamahas I like the HS10's; I have never tried the 8's and the 7's Seam to do something I don't like in the mids (compared to the TV7's), and 5's are stale. I previously had some Rokits ...you hit the nail on the head with the mud (learned to mix on the pretty well, though because they were "my" first pair. The rest I have never tried. Since every description you had about monitors I have tried match my sentiments, I find your opinion would more than likely parallel mine or vice versa. So there are now a few I am not interested in trying and I will check this video (haven't watched yet..I wanted to see if I was wasting my time). One suggestion...You might want to check the JBL 308p's for a crystal clear imaging with a fascinating low frequency response if you haven't already gotten the a7x because they are $1000 less expensive. Cheers.

    These are two-way speakers, there are no accurate mids on either. I have no idea what makes you think the mids clearer. If you want mids, but a pair of Avantones. A pair of Avantones + whatever other pair you have, will be superior to a single pair of either Yamahas or Adams. If you know anything about audio, a pair of Avantones or Auratones, is absolutely imperative if you are more than a hobbyist.
