5. 2tbsp water
6. 1 tbsp of vegetable oil
7. 1 tsp of sugar

This video is almost 12 years old and still, to this day, the absolute best bok choy recipe I’ve found on RUclips. It is so delicious that every time I make it, the family is at the table waiting. I love cooking, and this video makes presenting baby bok choy, very easy. My wife and all five of our kids just love this recipe. It’s rare that they all agree on the same dish, but this one is a hands down first place winner!
RJ .. thanks for the compliments. I am really glad that you and your family likes it. It means a lot to me.
TRULY. 😊
Ridiculously good. So glad I found this recipe as well.
Si pusiera la receta en español la podríamos hacer
Have made this several times. One of the BEST dishes I've ever eaten. Family LOVES it! Thanks Chef Jarod.
I'm willing to accept garlicbreath for this, it's heavenly! Thank you for enriching our skills :9
b.t.w leaving sugar, and adding spring onions and sesame oil makes it even better.
Thank you for the suggestion
I tried this today using a ginger garlic purée and cooking some mushroom in with the sauce before putting it over the steamed bok choy. Absolutely delicious! Thanks for a simple, easy-to-follow recipe!
I tried this recipe tonight and I paired it with rice and tilapia. It was really good! I substitute cornstarch with flour and added more water to balance out the saltiness of the soy sauce. This is a must try! It was my first time to eat bok choy, thank you for the reminder about cleaning it thoroughly, because it really has sand in it. Anyway this is really a good recipe. Thank you for sharing! :)
I am so glad you gave it a try.
Thanks LaTisha because I was wondering what I can use instead of cornstarch
LaTisha M
any idea where to get the same veggie steamer he is using
LaTisha M Why do we steam vegetables?
When buying vegetables can you pack and save them for the next day?
Wow very nice and yummy looks
How cute to see your boys watching you cook! That is a very excellent thing! Not only do they bond with you, but it teaches them self sufficiency! Bravo!
I made this and OMG!!
Best bok Choy recipe ever!!!
Thank you chef!!!
I made this tonight .... OMG !! So tasty. Baby bok choy is now my favorite veggie. This is only my second time eating this veggie. I had no idea how delicious it is until tonight. The sauce is so simple to make but the flavor is terrific. I can put it on rice, beef or chicken and even shrimp ... anything actually. Thanks 🙏 .
I am so happy you tried it and liked it.
I used to boil the bokchoy every single time without any extra ingredients because I had no clue how to cook it. Today I tried your recipe and I forking loved it! Very easy to make, healthy and delicious. Thank you Chef Jarod. You saved my life.
Thanks for giving it a try. It made my day.
I’ve made this dozens of times. OUT OF THIS WORLD GOOD!
Thanks RJ.
Looks much easier than other types on RUclips. I like the sauce and bok choy is so good. Start making it this way - simple! Can't have gluten so cornstarch is a win-win.
Made my mouth water! Also, Liked how you filmed. Not complicated and showed what was important. Thanks
Thanks.
Aloha Chef Jarod I'm adding this to my Christmas dinner this year. December 2020
🌺🌺Aloha🌺🌺
I love Chinese food, nice video thnx for uploading 👍
Made this for lunch today. Absolutely delicious and super easy to prepare. This will be one of my favorites and go-to dishes. I added a few cooked shrimp to the platter before pouring the sauce over. Fantastic.
Would this work with steamed Kale as a substitute?
Sorry for the late reply. I think it will work fine with kale... but you will need to steam quite a bit longer, as kale are much sturdier/firmer than bokchoy.
Andrew Rolnick chinese lettuce it works better with
LOVELY! I'll probably add some ginger to the garlic...might try this tonight as I scored a beautifuly bunch of baby bok choy at organic farmer's market yesterday! Thank you for the simplicity of your presentation too!
That's great. I think you will enjoy it much. Thanks for watching.
i could imagine add a tiny amount of finely chopped dry roasted peanuts to this and a touch of lemon juice. looks very delicious. thank you for sharing.
Yes blue man .. that's a good suggestion .. anything crunchy to add texture to the veggies. Thanks for watching.

Looks good ChefJarod! I just bought a bunch of baby bok choy yesterday and wanted to find an easy method to prepare. I, too, will leave out the sugar, swap out the soy sauce for Tamari, add some ginger with the garlic and top with sesame seeds. Thanks for the inspiration! 👍🏻
That's great Beth. Thank you for sharing your version, it's creative.
Thanks for sharing yummy and easy,
Partner with fried fish and steam rice.
I love this recipe. It is so do-able. Thank you so much.
Very tasty..I steamed it in my steam/rice cooker. Instead of sugar, I used sweet sesame oil, and garnished with chopped walnuts.
Ok I just made this and WOW! what a wonderful and great tasting sauce! Hope there is some left for supper.
Just try today, tks to ur recipe, simple and delicious.
Amazing!🎉🙏🏻subscribed.
Delicious and simple. Chicken stock works well in this, as does a dash of rice wine, a drop or two of sesame oil. But it's fine the way it is.
Wow tried your suggestion of seasome oil and rice wine and it added an entire new dimension to the dish- awesome! Thanks
Robin Betts yes I wud def. Doctor up the sauce. An I wud of put the book choy in the sauce pan an not drizzle it over the veggies. He's not a cook. At all. But. It's ok.
I trippled the sauce and added baked tofu and rice. Very easy and tasty. Thank you ChefJarod! Next time I am going to add the mushrooms and ginger, too...
I like your kitchen very neat and wide.
I do love the menu as well.
Thanks for this recipe chef.
I felt a sense of comfort when he added the vegetable oil 😭

Hi Joshua, thanks. I am really glad you gave it a try.
She did a GREAT job and your recipe was both simple and delicious! The sauce was so good I pretty much licked the plate clean!
I made this yesterday, really good fast and easy.
I'm glad you tried it Jose. Thanks.
very nice. i like your techniques.
an adapted version with few additional techniques/options to save time and energy for meal preps:
blanche the bok choy in boiling hot water just 60 seconds and then scoop them into an ice bath right after (you can use the remaining bok choy rest of week, just make sure to strain them completely and line your storage bowl with a rag or towel paper underneath the bok choy to help collect all the water, its a resto technique and works great)
for stir fry (adapted version):
Add some sliced ginger into the oil with that garlic
some oyster sauce into that soy mix
throw in blanched bok choy, add bit of salt, msg and white pepper, dash of shoaxing vinegar, some meat/bone broth/stock (instead of water), fry it up and stir quickly on high heat for a quick 30 seconds and voila
its resto style, easy to mimick at home too.
How did she do? I try to engage my kids as much as possible when I cook, so they can see how food is made at home. That's what I did when I was little, watching my mom cooked every single day of her life. Those memories are part of my recipe book.
Thanks Chef Jarod, I like your homemade recipes! Very delicious and good use of vegies!
