  • In this episode, we kick off the first big projects to make our custom aluminum sailboat fully off-grid ready! We start by cutting into wood to install a 12V drawer fridge, an essential upgrade for living off the grid. Next, we tackle a big decision: keep the heavy hard dinghy or switch back to Patches, our (kind of) inflatable? After a test ride, we weigh the options. Finally, we dive into a DIY project to replace Yanmar engine mounts with a budget-friendly alternative, Ellebogen, on our Yanmar 4JH2E.
Join us as we take on these projects to turn our boat into the ultimate off-grid sailing and living beast!

The heavier density mounts on port are to counteract for the rotation of the crankshaft…. I was scratching my head and was just about to comment at the beginning when you were replacing the first one and said that 150 goes on port😊

Great video on the importance of engine mounts.. Patches on the dinghy hmm we patched the tar out of ours and it works but still leaks.. We have decided to buy a new Dinghy.. We really enjoy your videos and saving money doing repairs is right up our alley as well.. Small tricks that can be done on our boat. Thank you for teaching us..

Hi Guy's, check the air inlet on your outboard. With Suzuki there is a air restricted block that when removed makes the engine a 20 HP engine. I suspect your tahatsu is the same. Most manufacturers make the same engine fit for several hp ranges , by restricting air flow or fuel flow. Yamaha 6 hp is really a 9.9 etc . Having a dingy that can take a beating and not go flat is a huge WIN , as well as will last forever rather than 6-10 years . CHEERS AND FAIR WINDS Steve h
