I am DocumenTrey’s mom, I am a teacher and now have to teach on-line 😳 I need his help, but he’s too busy working on a sermon, or working on RUclips. So, I think I could really use that cord. 👍🏼😉
Hey Mrs. VanCamp. Happy to hear from you. Your son is definitely busy for sure. But, I think lavalier microphones like this would be an amazing source of help for teachers like yourself. We definitely want those students hearing what is being taught.
I liked the idea of the camera being the same height as our faces....no bats in the cave! LOLOL. Also the rear camera tip was great. Never thought of that.
Ah, thanks brother. Yeah, you got that audio game on point already. And I must say, keeping it under 3 is so hard. There was a lot of stuff I wanted to keep in there, but realized it wasn't "necessary". 🤣
Nice tips, man! Right now is a great time to adapt and use what you have. Good, affordable options are definitely out there (and thanks for the tip about the rear-facing camera)!
Thx for being a trailblazer and being a valuable service to the church and to the works. Keep it up man. I’m preaching on May 17th and I’m looking at making it more of a vlog so wish me luck.
I subscribed to you sometime ago, but forgot to follow up on the notifications. Today, I did. And, I'm glad I did. Great stuff, brother. Love from Messenger TV, India.
All good info Josh! One other tip that i found the hard way is to make sure you get the right cable or pick up an adapter for the TRRS to TRS if your microphone doesn't match your phone jack needs. Audio is the reason I convinced our lead pastor to still film the sermon from our sanctuary last weekend, best audio we have and its easy enough to sync up to the video. I ran my camera for backup and glad I did because my DSLR has an 11 minute limit because of file size! One other thing is depending on the camera, try a different camera app than the system one. Will give you more options usually. I didn't like how mine focused on the system camera app. Do have one follow up question though... Lighting and glasses... how do you not get glare on your glasses? I finish shooting a video and get frustrated with glasses glare when I go to edit.
John, those are all excellent tips. Don't be shocked if I use some of them in a future video (especially that cable one). And yes, camera app is huge for pre-recording videos like this. My built in camera had some stabilizer jumps when I talked with my hand in this video, which is why I had so many jump cuts (tried my best to hid them). As far as glare on glasses, it is a struggle. I try to place the lighting source 30°-45° off center from my eyeline and 30°-45° angled down towards me. With something like this ring light kit I couldn't move it to the side, so I just elevated above my head and angled it down at about a 30° angle. *An anti glare coating on glasses helps, too.
@@JoshuaVerwers Use them all you want. I had thought about doing a zero cost video creation video, but have so many other things that just seem to creep in and take time. We have limited budget for this kind of thing, and like either you or Jarrod had said, usually its the pastor or someone in leadership that has that desire that ends up funding it. We're blessed to be able to use our T3i that we bought way back when for family pictures, and an inexpensive Takstar shotgun mic, along with either cheap adapters for microphone stands (one is 3d printed for free) or simple desktop tripods. All the software we are using is free though, just takes a little getting used to for the interfaces. Audacity for audio recording and cleanup if any is needed as well as VSDC for the video editing. Last minute before we left church one day my wife said she wanted to record a video for our women's ministry. Used her cell phone because after a few tries, she decided she was going to read a script. Downloaded a prompter app on my phone, rigged up another flexible tripod and away she went. Did awesome and kept her on pace. Will try to find a pic we took of the setup. It was comical in my own mind anyway. I'll have to try the trick on lighting. Not too thrilled on the color of the bulbs in our house anyway with the videos, but hate to run into town only to record a video too.
Yeah, it sounds like you are definitely getting creative and making it work. I've owned a Takstar shotgun mic. They are really good, regardless of the cost. I've just recently started hearing about VSDC. Sounds like a great option. And I'd love to hear how you come out on the lighting. Keep me posted. 👍🏻
Great tips, but the lighting is the tip idea that I didn’t have before! I mean, in terms of not having a portable lighting system that works for the videos. And you can get it at Walmart?? Hmm... might have to send someone out to brave the danger. That’s huge!
Haha, yeah Wal-Mart could be the Danger Zone. Oh great, now Top Gun is running through my head. But yes, I picked it up at Wal-Mart minutes before recording this.
The one I got from Wal-Mart isn't on Amazon. But there's a comparable model on Amazon that has a longer cable. You can find it at www.amazon.com/shop/JoshuaVerwers The problem is that it's now on a huge shipping delay as Amazon has delayed "non-essential" items being delivered. But if you look at a Walmart, any lavalier mic for a smartphone (TRRS plug) will be pretty good. Definitely better than a built-in microphone.
The tripod that was holding the phone (and the phone clip) are part of the ring light clip. I've got a comparable model (not sold at Wal-Mart) in the description of the video. It worked really well. 👍🏻
Haha, I'm wondering if they day will ever come when Wayne becomes a fan of coffee. 🤔 It might be one of the signs of the times. 😉 Thank you, my friend. I appreciate you.
If you could even ship me the mic, which you can’t, it would cost you 5 or 6 times the price of the mic in shipping and then they would make me pay international tax. Hahaha, even thou it was made here
I think I'm still on Thailand time. 🤣 At least the tips were only 3 minutes long. That's better than a 30 minute TV show that has 10 minutes of commercials, right? 🤣
I am DocumenTrey’s mom, I am a teacher and now have to teach on-line 😳 I need his help, but he’s too busy working on a sermon, or working on RUclips. So, I think I could really use that cord. 👍🏼😉

I believe the rear facing camera tip was awesome! Total game changer!
Such a simple tip, but like you said... Game Changer. 👍🏻
I liked the idea of the camera being the same height as our faces....no bats in the cave! LOLOL. Also the rear camera tip was great. Never thought of that.
Haha, those bats in the cave are even worse when these phones can record in 4k..., especially if you protect it to a big screen TV like I do. 🤣
And yeah, sometimes it's the little things that we don't think about until someone mentions it. 👍🏻
I don't want the mic, I just like the video. AND you made it in three minutes. Something I've yet to do...👊
Ah, thanks brother.
Thanks Jared. And I totally agree, we just need to start and use what we have first. Glad you enjoyed the rear-cam tip. 👍🏻
Thx for being a trailblazer and being a valuable service to the church and to the works. Keep it up man. I’m preaching on May 17th and I’m looking at making it more of a vlog so wish me luck.
Ah, thank you so much. And I'll definitely pray and ask God to use your mightily through that. 🙏🏻

That's so great to hear. Glad you are enjoying it.
That was short and to the point well done.
Good stuff!! I sent this to a few of my friends who are new to video!
Hey Clint, I appreciate that. I hope it helps them out.

I liked the rear facing camera tip. Whenever I take a selfie it looks like I’m looking off to the side.
Yep, for sure. I do the exact same thing. It's why I had to switch to the other side. 🤣
videos on a budget!! Greats tips my guy.
Hey, thanks Carlos. Really appreciate that. These are some tips that are definitely needed at this time.
Helpful. Thanks
Bazinga! 📱🎥
It's amazing what a mic, some lights and using the right camera will do. 😉🤣
@@JoshuaVerwers I think you eliminated every excuse with this one. Well done
A Bite of Brownie Agreed! No 👏🏽 excuses 👏🏽
This is great
Hey, so glad you enjoyed it.
nice princess bride reference their at the end, my friend 🙃
Wait, I had an unintentional princes bride reference. 🤣 I didn't even realize that.
Joshua Verwers 😂😂😂😂😂

Joshua Verwers So which one did you get at Walmart but apparently can also order from Amazon?

I don't like your coffee and I don't ring your bell.
Great tips friend.

Thank you, my friend. I appreciate you.
@@JoshuaVerwers If you read Revelation in the Message you'll see that it's in there.
Just did a video like this earlier today. A lot of the same tips. Especially the nose hair one lol
Oh, that's awesome. 👏🏻 We got a lot of our brothers and sisters who could use the help. 👍🏻 And I for one I'm honored to be able to help.
I'm a poet and I didn't know it :) hahaha
Haha, sometimes the thing that come out of my mouth make for excellent outtakes.
Adding the little microphone thxs. ps I want the microphone
Yeah, audio is often overlooked when it comes to video, but so important. 👍🏻
Sorry Nick...it's mine. :P
Haha, time will tell.😁
If you could even ship me the mic, which you can’t, it would cost you 5 or 6 times the price of the mic in shipping and then they would make me pay international tax. Hahaha, even thou it was made here
Haha, this is true. Although if someone international wins, I'll figure out to hook them up. 👍🏻 Amazon... PayPal... oh, I'd figure out something. 😁
This 3min video is 5min long. Unsubscribe 😅
I was just schooling Pastor on some of these basics on Wed night.
I think I'm still on Thailand time. 🤣
At least the tips were only 3 minutes long. That's better than a 30 minute TV show that has 10 minutes of commercials, right? 🤣
And that's so cool that you were educating him on that. A lot of us pastors just don't think about these things until someone mentions it to us.
Oh, and BTW. Micah said the exact same thing about the video length. 😂 Kindred spirits, I tell ya.
