  • The thumb is the most mobile digit on the hand. It is used to help diagnose hypermobility through the Beighton score. For many people with hypermobility it has far too much range, causing pain and difficulty with every day tasks like writing or gripping. I decided to treat the thumb the same as any other joint: relax, control, reduce range and strengthen. This video looks at some ideas to do at home to help alleviate painful Hypermobile thumbs.

I am very grateful for my fellow Zebra Philip Quigley, a musician from Leyland in Lancashire UK, who wrote the music for this video and just for this channel. Thank you. I am delighted to have my own theme tune.

Thank you so much. My thumb joint hurts off and on. I usually just put on a soft hand brace to sleep in and it helps. Not this time still hurting. Going to try these exercises. Should I try seeing a OT/PT?

Double-joined in both thumbs, so get pain in hands with work. I do wear a brace only some of the time. Using a soft ball helps. I also find increasing the dia.of things like bike grips and tools helps a lot

I have hypermobility and lately I have been experiencing terrible pain in the joints of all of my fingers on the right hand. I am right handed. Do you have any specific exercises for all fingers to relieve pain? Thank you for all your videos on hypermobility.
