- This is the all-new BMW M2!
Mat’s headed over to America to get his hands on this all-new sports coupe, and he’s about to find out if it’s a worthy successor to the previous M2, and whether it can compete with the likes of the Porsche Cayman or even the M3!
Well when it comes to the design, it’s had a serious overhaul over the regular 2 Series. It’s got a large squared kidney grille up front, bulging wheel arches over the side, a carbon fibre roof and quad tailpipes at the back. All-in-all, it’s certainly meaner and more aggressive than the regular 2 Series.
It’s a similar story on the inside, with several changes made over the standard car. As you’d expect there’s a smattering of M tricolour to be found throughout, a fair bit of carbon fibre, and M-specific digital dial graphics. It also comes with sport bucket seats.
Then let’s take a look under the bonnet! It comes with the same 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six as found in the M3, but the output has been dialled down slightly, so it’ll produce 460hp and 550Nm of torque. This power is delivered to the rear wheels only, and unlike the M3, you can pick the M2 up as either a manual or an automatic!
The price starts from around £65,000, but is it really worth it? There’s only one way to find out - stick with Mat for this all-new review!

One thing I’ll say is all BMW’s new cars in real life have a lot more road presence than the Benz’s. They’re so many and they all look unique. The I7 is wayyy better than the EQS in person.

Bruh come on its not that blocky, i have seen one of them in real life which was an M Perfomance too to be exact and it wasnt that ugly looking and blocky
1700kg for a 2 series without 4wd, that’s madness
And we all cry that Nissan gtr is heavy 😄
And manual M2 is 1730kg
I have an E91 330xd, its 1705kg..
I’m astonished that people praise how magnificent this car is, although it weighs exactly like an M3 and has horrendous design:/ no need for sophisticated marketing - people tend to accept and embrace anything they are given. But maybe I’m being a pessimistic car enthusiast)
that's almost an Audi S5 :P in coupe, it's very similar
E39 M5 back in the day was 1795kg and with V8 under the bonet.Something went wrong in car industry in the last 25 years
Best cameo ever! Jakub and Yuri!
I remember driving the old m2 manual gearbox and like you said matt the gear changes are not so good, very long but it is more fun than a automatic
The last M2 looked so unbelievably good, and now we got this...
This looks much better than the old one. You'll agree 5 years from now.

This car looks like my first low poly car I made in Blender
And it still looks much better than a nasty toy Honda or a boring Audi that looks the same in every model, as if from a template.
It just looks cool, the haters can only attach to the appearance. You can see how good this car is. 😀
Looking at what kind of crap you put on your channel you should like it. And seriously in my opinion the M2 looks good. It has its angular character.

@Damar Fadlan what.
I like the older generation better. This design has to grow on me. However, The power train is amazing !
The square grilles, ugly gauge cluster screens and the flap type door handles (the worst part) of the new M2 makes the old one an instant classic.
@@brakinglate8828 cmon man, they took the old squareiness and modernized it
I don’t know who’s signed off on the new, messy design language, but it has to be hurting them in the realm of lost sales. I won’t even consider this brand anymore, except for older models, before their designers lost their freaking minds.
I have the f87 and yes I havent yet got used to this.
You have to see the car in real life. It looks so much better than on videos
Great review Matt, cheers. Great appearances by Jakub & Yuri too! I'm divided on the looks of this car. I think the front is a little too square.
The last bit of the video is hilarious 🤣🤣🤣
Insane how the designers put 5 rectangles with one blunted edge on the front, stood back, and thought, "yep this is it, we can't improve it any more"
I just can't... It looks like they also may have run out of time once they go to the rear.
@@hellobooom this BMW M2 looked like BMW M3 ALMS in the back but looked like 2002 TURBO.
The soft feminine/baby design at the top half, doesn't complement the artificial persona of aggression displayed at the lower side. Use of juxtaposing design language with conflicting geometrics translates to a hideous spectacle which is abhorrent
Idk man but I like it. Very dtm-like.
Yep, it’s atrocious
Cant believe they went backwards with the design, the last version looked so much better
This is true to every single current model of BMW range 😂
@@kyronrc wish Mat reviewed Honda RC211V.
@@kyronrcnot the 5 series
@@kyronrc 8 and 5 are mint but slightly cheaper on the build quality imo compared to last gen 5/6.
In my opinion the only models that look better now than the previous gens are the 5 Series and 1 Series (conditionally). 5 Series LCI is absolutely gorgeous whereas the previous one looked a little fat and grotesque in my opinion. The newest 1 Series is better looking ONLY with the blacked-out or M Performance grille. The standard (I think) chrome grille looks fucking hideous and like buck teeth. However a 1 Series spec’d properly or the M135i look really handsome.
The new M2 looks so weird yet one the coolest Bmw’s
I used to hate this car’s design but now it’s kinda grown up on me

I love how the manual shift knob is the same one I had in my 2001 e46 330ci. I think BMW will use that knob forever. Why change perfection?
That's nice..... the shock tower brace shows you exactly how much of the engine sits ahead of the front axle.
Still curious to know if Matt is fine after the Porsche’ engine explosion
It was an April fools joke. There was a cut before the explosion when he moved away to a safe position.
Plastic surgery is at a high level. XD
This feels like an older video. Man's in the USA when he shot this, presumably at the same time he recorded the videos on the other new BMWs like the XM.
But yeah, Matt was presumably *away* from the blast radius of the Porsche engine.
What is Porche??
Pretty sure I saw an arm flying into the Mercedes windscreen.
I had the previous gen, loved it, looked amazing. This version looks like they've left the disguising bumpers on that they do when testing it for releasing the car.
Mat Coleman, the Bugatti Veyron imo looked cool.
True that, I honestly like the looks of the new 240i over this.
they forgot the test bumpers on it mate xd
Are those Bumpers not the ones US Cars have to have because of some weird Law in the US? I guess they're not on it here in Europe.
What i learned about BMW the past 20 Years is that everyone complains about their Designs whenever a new one comes out and then say the previous one looked better.
Then People get used to it and then when the next one comes out they wil cal the one they used to call ugly before "Much better looking" etc.
I think BMW gets so much Hate for Designs because they're the only Car Manufacturer who does actually change the Looks of their Cars the most from Generation to Generation.
Audi in Comparison, doesn't. So People dont have to get used to new Looks.
As much as i dislike a lot of BMWs when theyre released, i'm aware that in a Year or two i'll either end up gotten used to it or liking it.

Yeah but to be fair it would heave been around 4 seconds even without that. But not necessarily under 4 seconds. Which is alright considering it’s claimed time is 4.1 seconds to 60.

Tamas Hathazi, this 2023 BMW M2 looked like M3 ALMS, you know the cover art car from NFS SHIFT?
I love this guys sense of humor. He has never not made me laugh. Just a funny side note, my glasses are so outdated Rex wise, from the thumbnail I thought this was a Shmee video 😂. Time to make an appointment. I didn’t realize everyone converges in Arizona at the same time and how that all works. Joe Achilles, the strait pipe guys, The Smokimg Tire, BMW Blog guy, a big ole M2 test drive party.
All I can say is that I cant wait for the facelifted version.
They will probably crash it into a wall and call that the facelift version. It's the only way they could make it look any worse and no doubt the way BMW is going, they will. At least when you are looking at the front of this car you're not looking at that revolting screen display on the dash.
I think I prefer the previous less boxy shape too. The front thankfully doesn't have BMW's new snarling oversized grills but they still look a bit thick. Still a great car though
Yeah. The M240i's less boxy shape is way better but I'm glad this M2 actually looks okay. It could've been better but it's not as bad as I'd thought it'd be.
I think the M2 looks very cool has its own angular style. It definitely looks better than audi rs3 or honda type r
This M2 looks like they used cheap plastic aftermarket bodykits to fit onto the car...
I actually quite like the design and i like the fact that it is based on an actual 3/4 series chassis, unlike the old M2 which was based on the 1 series. Much more quality in the interior, these amazing seats (probably the coolest seats in the entire car industry, even beating Lamborghini and Porsche!), one of the best powertrains ever made, great transmission, RWD with an LSD and the option for an manual transmission. They even made a complete Bodykit, the entire car looks different to the normal 2-series coupe, this is insane to me. Mercedes wouldn't even bother to make their 140k C63 a widebody and spec it instead with 255 rear tires.
I consider this as one of the best BMWs ever made and the best new car for under 100.000€ of all time!
I think the front looks way worse than the m4 actually
Best moment is Yuri and Jakub!
Great video wish I had the cash for that car.
I've been waiting for that crossover!
I have the f87 and this design is something I havent quite got used to. Maybe in a few years we'll see some design change. The rest of the car is great!
This design of M2 2023 looked quite ahead of its time.
That radiator situation is a disappointment especially how it’s already dented…
That car looks amazing honestly 🔥
One exactly the same where I worked today, what a machine tbh I was speechless
I know people say this design will grow on you, but no, the older one is simply better, the lines are more futuristic, this looks like an m240i that gained weight.
you don't usually upload at this time mat watson, but it's great that the Asian region is still in the afternoon.
I like your review, the car is cool, especially this BMW M2 speed test
The M2 was always my dream honestly, I love the new one but the front just looks Lego like to me, still though might just get my order in 😅
Amazing to learn that this car weights almost as much as my F10 5 series

I have to say, the infotainment in BMWs rn is the most beautiful in a long time in the whole class. That screen has the perfect proportions, the UX is very easy and logically structured, ultra-high res screen. Just wow
The pre-LCI one looked better to me, much prefer the infotainment and gauge cluster separate and the graphics are arguably worse in iDrive 8 vs 7
This car looks way better in person. If only the front grill ran vertical and not horizontal b/c it totally changed the appearance of all Bimmers
For most of history, it was thought to be impossible, but this one makes even the Beemers with massive kidney disease look rather pretty

Did the designers play Minecraft before they built this brick?
Have an older M3 myself, which I'm planning to sell soon. Gradually fell out of love with BM. Their design language has just become muddled and cars very ugly. New M2 looks like somebody tried to make a kit car rendition of an M2 on the cheap and got it badly wrong. Love your video's Matt they're always entertaining.
@@24k__J for me i also love models on both gens.

M2 2023 is more like M3 ALMS 2.5.
How is that smooth?

Wasn’t smooth at all mate
Nope, I didn't, but I stopped watching at 30 seconds as it is clearly a car for drug dealers, like most high powered BMW's are.
Hi great review as always! What would be your choice between the M2 vs M340i? I know both are different cars, but which one would you choose & easier to live with. TIA
The M240. It’s as quick as both the M2 and M340. It’s £16k cheaper than an M2 and over £20k than an M340.

I love the BMW straight-six engine! It makes a lot of performance and it's efficient!
going for the photo with the guy is +1. thats makes the difference. +1 for Matt.
Took delivery of my '24 M2 last month. It far exceeded my expectations.
1:18 0-60 road seemed to slope downhill before going up and the second run at 1:41 starts downhill also?
Looking forward to a drag race between this and the RS3 and AMG 45s. The trio pocket rockets. These performance figures are just nuts compared to lets say 20 years ago. This was supercar territory if I am right?
20 years is a lot of time. Also dont forget how far tires progressed.
M240i is already on par with those cars. M2 will smoke them. Especially on track seeing how fast the M4 is.
@@MuppetsSh0w the m240i drag performance is very similar to m2. Carwow got the same 0-60 and m240i was 1/4 second slower in the quarter mile. I’m sure the m2 is more fun to drive by far though
@@MuppetsSh0w But m240i is 4wd, this is RWD. Although his 1/4 time in m2 was similiar to rs3's and a45's.

Can some one please help me out. Does the M3 and M2 both have the thuds in your back that is added in there as I test drove the m2 and could fell it and like that bmw added that in to the gear changes but is this the same with the m3 and m4?
Front bumper is like something out of a Max Power magazine in the 90s
Now even an M2 weights 1.8 tons... I highly doubt this thing is anymore fun than a lighter sports car.
Newer M3 and M5 are attrocious on B-roads.
Love the subtle crossover with The Straight Pipes !! Top tier car reviewers recognizing themselves 😎
I’m not even an Audi fan, but man the recent BMW designs is making those Audis look fantastic

Amazing power train, but pretty sure not too many people will be happy with the design. The exposed radiator is also very concerning.
Indecent exposure....
F***. Why do I like you videos even when the commercial is still running. Because I knows it's awesome 😂
12:05 the paint looks metallic in that shot
The reason why the M3/M4’s S58 engine is detuned for the M2 (460hp/550Nm instead of the M3/M4’s 500hp/600Nm) is mainly to prevent it from cannibalising sales of the M3/M4, because why would customers pay more for the M3/M4 if it wasn’t going to be any faster than the cheaper M2 if the two cars had the same power as each other?
They wouldn’t, so M3/M4 sales would plummet as a result!
Yeah, they know a smaller, lighter car would be faster. Same for the Cayman, which is a better basis than the 911 platform.
Also means you can ECU tune back to M4 numbers without any worries :)
It looks like a big toy car
Bu yorumu ben yapıcaktım😂😂
For the same price I could get 991 911. Would you suggest a ten year old 911, or 2023 m2 as a daily/GT/track car? I currently have an nd2 Miata so either will be a big upgrade (GT wise)
as daily i want a car where i can flip the rear seats to transport things. and i can‘t compare a new one to a 10year old used one.

I'm still trying to understand how the m2 with 460hp did 0-60 in 3.87, while the m340i with a frozen road, more weight and a less poweful engine did it in 3.81.
Just shows you how much 0-60 doesn’t matter.
