- BMW has finally done it… It’s released a BMW M3 Touring!
If you’re like us, you’ve been longing for BMW to release an estate version of the oh-so-popular M3, and the time has finally come! But does it live up to expectations? Let’s find out.
In terms of the design, it looks pretty much identical to the saloon version, apart from the extended boot. But of course, that’s no bad thing! It means you get the same quad exhausts, aggressive front & rear bumpers, and the huge kidney grille design as we’ve known to expect from all new Bimmers.
It’s a similar story on the inside, with the layout in the front and rear seats matching the saloon M3. Just like the saloon, the Touring is also treated to BMW’s new big infotainment and digital dial screen… And it looks incredible!
Under the bonnet, you’ll also find the same 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six as the saloon. This produces 510hp and 650Nm of torque, and unlike the saloon, the touring is only available with xDrive.
But of course, it’s not cheap, with the price starting from around £85,000. So what do you think - is this the best BMW M of all time?! Or would you stick with a saloon? Let us know in the COMMENTS!

I've owned my M340i touring for around 6 months now and I'd have to say it's 90% of what this M3 is but sacrifices a small amount of performance for economy. I was hitting 45Mpg yesterday, in a car that does 0-60 in under 4 seconds, insane!
I have the M440i and it’s huge fun and plenty for what you can do legally on the public road… but as he said I’m always lusting for that M4 and wish I had that extra cash to get it but hey let’s enjoy what we have
Useful for getting to the front of the queue at the Mcdonalds drive-in . You won't be getting 45 mpg driving at 0-60 in 4 seconds Pal !!.
I had the M340i, its just an amazing car, obvs I would like the above, but I dont have 85K LOL.
I’m renting an M340i Touring this week, what a car, crazy fast for public roads, super comfortable, well balanced, could never have an Audi ou Merc. But would maybe consider the M340d for the extra range at a 0,1s sacrifice in the 0-60. And an actual sports car for the weekend, would be the perfect combo.
I dont thi k a 340i is even an “M” no way near 90% of an M car. Its got a B58
That satin matte finish on the paint is so good at showing off all those cuts and curves. So freaking nice!
I haven't even finished watching the video, and I'm sure Mat will go for "just go ahead and buy it".

What you're explaining at about 5:30 minutes into the video, it's the M factor. It is the soul that gives BMW's M cars the little edge! I've actually come to like this new design of the kidney grill, it looks rather cool now :)
I wish the grill was something that appealed to me because a new manual trans m3 is otherwise soooo attractive. I have a 2002 330cic that might be upgraded. But it has to look great (to me).

I owned a 335d Touring (2014) and that was the best car I've ever had. 4.2 seconds to 60 40+mpg, load carrying, quick, etc. 4WD, you name it. God, I miss that car!! 🙂

I used to have one as well and DMS remapped it 820nm/400 hp and it was a weapon! Poor ride on runflats and had a few electrical issues with it but very good car! 👍🙂

My dream car. My 09 335D ruined me for every other car. Since a distracted driver crashed into me and wrote it off I've never had the same passion for cars.
A friend of mine works for BMW and he took me for a ride 2 weeks before it got unveiled at Goodwood and I think the way this thing handles is absolutely stunning. I thinks it drives way better than a RS4 for example.

This is one of the nicest Touring cars I’ve ever seen. Everything is so proportional. Everything fits so well. It looks so toight, almost as if it was born to be this.

I miss the simple days of my silver-grey Renault 18 estate - of which strangely I am reminded of (I think we got it for around 1000 pounds at the time - in the early 90s).. that car did everything I needed as a student (apart from acceleration) - with enough room to sleep in the back with the seats folded, many trips between the UK and France, 1000s of miles camping trips across Europe - a truly practical GT of its time.
I've never seen Matt so happy driving an M. And its still lighter than a C63e saloon, bigups to BMW.

It's a great and way overdue move by BMW to finally release M3 Touring!
Though I'd still rather sacrifice track capabilities in favor of that extra bit of additional comfort Alpina B3 Touring offers.
BMW ALPINA still better than this new BMW Saloon obviously.

The other advantage of the Alpina is that it's not saddled with that gopping snout fitted to the M cars.

I'd rather have it even sportier. With a manual and more direct and heavy steering. But the M3 needs to be sportier than the Alpina.

I love it, it actually looks very stealthy for what it is. If you are not into cars, it looks just like a regular albeit modern estate.
If I had the money (and I really don't) I'd get the Alpina. More exclusive, more subtle and I could still walk up to the front of it and not feel ashamed!

@@rg6982 hear what your saying about it’s versatility, but saying any car over the £100k mark is a bargain is a bit of a stretch to be fair, especially an estate car. that is unless it’s a true supercar manufacturer. That’s coming from a BMW fanboy as well 😉 still believe this is well overpriced and targeting those that have to have it crowd. It will loose minimum 20% after 12 months.

Next generation of M cars will be PHEV or Full EV, if I recall correct, so it might even hold or appreciate in value

I own a BMW x3 330i and I use Blinkers perfectly (right to turn left and left to turn right)
I love this car! Having driven the G80 M3 sedan I loved it soo much more over the F80s. This along with a 992 GT3 would be my ultimate two car garage

Wait. Do you own an F80? Or just road in one and now have an opinion. A F80 base with a $500 tune destroys the top of the line G80. That is a shame. For me F80 all day over the g80 by looks alone
@@CHEDDARANDWAFFLES driven a few F80 M3/M4s when I was working at dealerships. I did a photoshoot with a G80 one time and owner gave me the keys and I instantly preferred it, feels smoother and refined. don't care about tunes lol

@@CHEDDARANDWAFFLES Dont know. I owned a F80 Comp for several years but it never grew on me properly. Not even close to the E92 M3 I had before it. Faster on a track than the E92? Yes but not nearly as much fun.

Can you give more details on brake distance? What does it compare to the RS6 other similar cars? Love the fact, but don’t remember any other ones!

Wonderful car, so glad estates are making a return - finally, useful cars are back.
I''m sick of the SUV box fad. Got an estate . Bought it because the Reviewer who was Irish said you could get 10 dead bodies in the back !!. (ex IRA perhaps ?) It's a Skoda Superb Exec estate and at a push you can get 11 in the back 😆😆.
The netting thing that Mat took out the boot of the car can be fitted to the back of the rear seat when you have the folded down, so you can put a protective net between the cargo and the back of the carbon seats. Pretty standard feature on the Touring.
Looks amazing and as for it not having a dual clutch gearbox that’s because they’re not as reliable and long lasting as the old school/ new school torque vectoring boxes
Currently driving a 2002 325 xi wagon, think its such a cool carr, hopefully can get one of these M3 wagons one day!
They look so good from behind! Performance is mental as well. Not sold on the new ipad style display though...
Both are good...it all boils down to ones taste and preference .Just try both of them and conclude by depending on what works for you.

Literally the perfect car.. The only gripe I have is that digital dash. I could live with it though. But if only it had a normal dash...
It maybe cost $200k or 107k pounds.
Perfect apart from it looks like any other BMW and has a crap, fake sounding engine. Nothing special about it all.

@@markcampbell2491 RS6 fun factor is 2, if you have rating of 1 to 10. The heavy front makes it difficult to turn into corners. I haven't driven the last gen but if its anything like the earlier RS4 or RS6, its ultimate boredom. Great for gliding on the Autobahn but on some curvy mountain roads the M-cars are far superior.

They are unless you're a larger frame, having spent most of my life playing leg-growing sports, the centre carbon cutout really restricts thigh space, otherwise they're exceptional

10:12 Below the load cover that is! But let's not forget you can take that out and then you have a much taller space to work with plus you can fold the seats to down for even more space. Man I love station wagons...

Alpina is a different car totally. Much more refined but fun factor not even close to M-cars.

I have the M4 in that colour with those seats. Not an estate I know but its my perfect car
It does come rear wheel drive it has and option on the computer too change too rear wheel drive and you can change the traction control in the rear for optimum drifts
No mention of cup holders, large bottle of water, storage, glove box size, parcel shelf storage(or lack off), USB ports These seem to be really important in every other car. Makes me think that this wasn't an entirely objective review

although it is exciting to see the m3 touring, the alpina b3 touring has been around for a long time. ich wanna argue that the alpina,, with just a bit less power but much more torque and without the controversial m3 nostrils might actually be a better choice. it would defenitely be a very interesting comparison! and it has a lower sticker price with more features coming as standard! to me it seems the only win for the m3 touring is the wider m3 body. as alpina can only use the normal 3 series body. althogh i can't speak for the actual driving characteristics.
It depends what you want. I have driven several Alpinas but they never were especially fun to drive. Great cars for Autobahns, silent with great quality. But nothing for me, I would get bored really quickly.

This is the ideal wagon for the states. 4 wheel drive check, nice breaks check, solid engine power check, roomie interior check. Between this and the RS4 and the RS6, it's nice to see that German Automakers haven't forgotten how to make a sporting yet somewhat family ride more sport. The suv or the crossover seems like it would be more of the wonky everyday driver. BMW and Audi keeping sporting fun alive with their makes.
Ive seen this in real life and i was shocked to see how good it looks. Never thought bmw would do this but its like having nice melting marshmellows in a hot bath

Wish the states got more wagons, I own a CW2 Acura TSX Sportwagon/Accord Euro Tourer and it's so practical yet fun to drive I don't know what I'd replace it with.

Wish that the digital instrument cluster provided a mode for circular looking RPM counter and Speedo gauges, which almost all other manufactures provide. Retro looking analogue gauges from a previous BMW sports model would be cool. Similar to what Ford is providing with the new Mustang, providing a retro-style gauge cluster view from the Fox Body Mustangs.
