I no longer play GW systems at the moment. But I do play OPR, so I can use whatever models I have. When I think of my metal storm rats, some of which are still from the 90s, or the plague monks, which are all from very old times.
My game I use what I want. GW brought this you have to use rubbish, when they went public, before that they supported the gamer in doing what they wanted. How do I know this, I was a GW employee when it floated and saw the policy changes in black and white when the marketing strategy changed to profit maximization.
Probably have mentioned this in the past, but I have always been a big fan of using acetone for stripping metal min's. If you ever come across a metal mini's that is very resistant to acetone (or a strong degreaser for that matter), it was most likely painted with enamels. I have found Dettol (the brown kind that cleans out wounds) to work well in those cases. It will be more messy though, that's for sure. If it cums up on you a little too much, that going back to LA's Totally awesome just to clean the gum away will help I found.
love any video involving the skaven...nice job on that jezzail. love to see different takes on the rats...have been painting them for almost 30 years and just love them.
They have always been some of my favorite models and there are so many awesome ways to paint them. I also really enjoy how they play in a game, really fun :)
That's mostly my plan. I do want to convert some of them to look a little more similar, but I have already been doing that with the older sc models anyway. I'm more excited that the older models will probably be dropping in price on ebay so I can get larger lots for much less money :)
08:00 come one now Casey, that's a bit of strong statement. Slimming down the range made a lot of sense for a bunch of different reasons. However the communication was extremely poor. If they would have packaged the message better, people would have taken the news less badly.
Thanks, Casey, for the video. I have been struggling with painting models for fun and using them for other games. This video really helped me through the imposter syndrome and realized I could paint what I wanted for whatever I wanted. Keep it up.
I got the old Stormcast Ballista given to me for free for me to use as artillery in any army for Hobgoblin, but also, will be using them as generic fantasy terrain as well!
Sweet video, thanks for the heads up and shame my stormcast will never reach a table but then I just paint lol though I came joint 14th in my first kill team tournament this weekend so maybe who knows lol
First tournament, nice! It looks like most of the sc models are being remade, so they will still be usable, although they've only shown a few of the new ones so far, we'll see how it goes.

yeah pretty much, but there won't be any rules updates after this edition, so no more books or new models, and that's more the sad part for anyone who eagerly waits for updates on their army. But for sure I will still be using these to play at home :)

I printed out some Rat Ogres from One Page Rules, they look pretty great, and there are new ones coming out from gw. It's an exciting time for new rats! I only ever use Acetone on metal models, but if that doesn't fully work then putting them in a concentrated degreaser will probably do the rest. Depends on the type of paint I guess.
I don’t know… I just wouldn’t play along with the press release language conflating the different things that are happening. Some old sculpts are being renewed with updated sculpts. Some of those are almost as old as I am, some of them are pretty new. That’s fine. They’re new takes on concepts and units and it’s a complete non issue (and always has been) to just keep using the old models. The incentive to buy is that they’ll look new and cool. That’s fair. That’s also something that literally no one is too upset about. But then they’re also returning units and whole armies from the game alongside their models. It’s hardly unprecedented to have units dropped, but it’s relatively rare, and removing whole armies is an extraordinary thing to do. Doing so to armies that were only introduced 6 years ago is crazy and inexcusable. And there’s very little silver lining. Some of the Stormcast can, if you squint, be proxied as units that are still around, but some hardly can (RIP ballista). Beasts of Chaos are just gone. I guess you’re going to have to use S2D rules ? CoS? That’s a whole other thing than just having your existing army consist of outdated minis with fewer details and less dynamic poses. There are still Liberators in the game. They’re called liberators, they look like liberators and have the same weapons as liberators. That’s not the case with Ungors or even the Evocators that were sold to new players in the starter set just three years ago. I sympathize with you trying to stay positive, but we don’t have to give hope where there is none. We know roughly what’s getting renewed with fresh models, and we know what’s been cut completely from the game. There’s no need to pretend we know less than we do. These are different things, and best thought of as separate things. They were announced at the same time. Presumably with the intention of conflating them. Heck, I’d start wondering about the future of models and units not in the massive culling article on warhammer community. Apparently the dreadblade harrows are a cavalry unit of two now, instead of a hero two-pack. Where does that leave the old hexwraiths cavalry unit that’s still a hold over from WFB. Probably gone by the time the battletome drops. Who’s willing to bet against CoS losing all elves and dwarves when that battletome comes around? My guess is that GW figures they got away with the End Times, and now they are trying to make it a regular occurrence.
The reason I'm trying to remain positive is more aimed at how we will likely find a home for the models that were actually lost. The ballista is a good example, we know it's gone, and they won't be making a new one, but can that model be used for something else that still works. Like, if I buy a ballista off of eBay for, presumable, much less money, can it be used on the table still and count as something that is also, presumably, much more money now. Most of the rest of the models can be converted into something that will still be around. I am very ready to buy discount stormcast minis and make them work with whatever weapon options are available now. So I'm not trying to say they will be giving us more information that will be better news, but that as a hobby community we can figure something out. I agree with you though, gw probably thinks they got away with something during the end times and casually dropped this article on the community page like it was no big deal.
The miniature is why historical is so cost-effective. In most cases with infantry, cavalry and artillery, all that tends to change is basing. A unit remains viable even when changing rule systems. Also, with the addition of games like Weird War 2, some other elements can be added to your historical units.
Hey, hope you don't mind me asking, but what do you do when paint just won't come off a mini? I've had a Goblin Spider Rider I found at a yard sale and really want to get painted up, in a jar of acetone for WEEKS, I keep taking it out and working at it with a toothbrush and a wooden toothpick, but I just can't get the gummy old paint out of all of the tiny details.
Maybe its different paint and you need to try a different solvent. Try IPA or gasoline. Sometimes also just mineral oil can work really nicely. All of course only if your mini is metal!
Actually sandblasting is not the worst option, Broadsword Wargaming did a video on that using plastic models and it looks pretty great, no damage. If acetone isn't cutting through then definitely, like others have said, try another solvent. Concentrated Degreaser, Dettol, break cleaner. If it's metal then it won't hurt it, and it should come off. Even then, if the leftover paint in the details isn't clogging them up and is just stuck on the model, it's likely that you won't ever know after priming it again. It's rare that I can get 100% of the paint off of a used mini, but it almost never makes a difference.
I don't play gw, so I had no idea they killed off minis. I get wotc banning single cards. But banning miniatures that you spend nontrivial amounts of money on and then spend hours painting? That's just disrespectful to the customer base.
The weird thing is it's not new for GW to do that, but in this case, some of the models are not very old. I get 20+ year old stuff, but not from 2 years ago.
I am not pro-GW, because I remember when they were awesome, and they've not been for around 15-20 years. That being said, I don't understand the anger over discontinuing armies and models. They sold you a complete product, and its one you can still play. I'm still playing 5th edition 40k, because I prefer it, and I have no problem getting games. You still own and can use the models. And they've done this for years. There are countless examples of units and armies full of units that were "retired" dating back to the 80's. Maybe I've just immune to the GW disappointment after years of it, but I'm still perplexed.
I'm in the same boat, I still play older games and have lots of models that have been retired. I think most of us expect older models to retire at some point, and we are seeing new sculpts for some of the ones they announced, which is great, I'm all for updating models, it adds to the history of the company and the models they have produced. The issue is that some of the models they cut were just not that old. So now there are models that won't get new rules when newer stuff comes out and will not be great in the game they were made for, and any store owner that has stock of any of those models now has to sell them at a discount because realistically nobody will want them at msrp anymore since they aren't viable in games of newer editions that they also want people to buy and play. It just feels kinda crazy for a company to decide to do that to their audience, especially when historically when they get rid of stuff it's been for a good reason.
"Killing off a bunch of armies, not supporting them and removing them from the game." I can't think of anything more mis-informing than this statement lol. Quote from the article...." we will continue to support this content with rules and balance updates as needed throughout the edition" Cmon dude. I normally love your videos but this one needs some fact checking my guy.
I guess I'm with you on this, frankly it killed the tone of an otherwise positive painting video. I have a hard rule about not gaming with folks who only express negativity about the hobby because I've found the gaming and fandom community around gaming have made a hell of their own choosing with the constant negativity.
I see your point, but that quote is exactly what I'm talking about. They will continue to support the content as needed, which isn't very promising, and, not for much longer, and while I completely understand needing to cut super old models, there were a bunch that are just not that old. The Warcry cuts alone man, that game is not that old and those kits are still everywhere. I don't know about you, but that feels pretty bad. At the same time, my entire point is that none of us should put our eggs into one basket, and we should use our models regardless of the news, converting to fit new rules, or just playing other games like opr. I'm trying to see both sides of the coin, but it's hard when they hide everything and don't explain themselves very well.
I've been there, it's a weirdly hard thing to change your mind on, but once you unlock that box and start going after multiple game systems, the sky is the limit for army building!
isn't gw just not gonna make those old models anymore? how far i know everything will get legends rules and howlong you don't only play tournament i wouldn't see why peeps would stop using them just because of a legends tag ^^ im planning on buying very old orks to see if i can make the ork commando team with them ^^ and i keep buying 2nd ed termagants as i adore them and love a variation in my swarm ^^
Sort of. Most of the models are older, and that makes perfect sense to me, but there were some that were from only a few years ago, so it gets weird. If there are new models that come out that are basically the same as older ones then you can absolutely still use them, nobody would question them on the table. The main issue is that the newer models being removed doesn't make sense and there won't be new rules made for any of the dropped models going forward, so even if you still want to use them in a game, your rules will always be behind all of the other armies, which probably means it won't ever be very good. Not that you can't still have fun with them, I'm still going to play my models with whatever rules I have, but I can see why that would upset some people.
@@eBayMiniatureRescues i get why it upsets peeps, but I also feel that peeps sometimes tied themselves to much to non legends models or what's good (and I feel RUclips doesn't help from peeps miswording it as it's gone and you can't use it to just making hate content but that's also sadly motivated with how the platform works I did wish peeps were also more open to trying other games, tbh more mini agnostic games would be good ^^ But getting peeps to try is the hard part even if they don't need to buy any minis 😅 But I also have the luxury/privilege that I have peeps with an overall open mindset and that don't mind playing with homebrew, a pretty big local community and almost everyone are super okay with proxies etc But it would be nice to get an explanation from gw of why they aren't gonna make some 2y old models anymore (some chaos warcry) because I'm kinda curious as they aren't old
@@SpooKimi getting people to try wargames is tough, but at least with model agnostic games it can be a little easier. I am really liking what's coming out of OPR and I think they can change wargaming for the better. The more model agnostic games we have, the less everyone will worry about gw doing weird crap lol.
It's really embarrassing that you wear your apron for the talkie bits and then work on the minis in plain clothes. It doesn't make you look cool, it makes you look silly.
I wear it when I need to, when I know things could get messy, otherwise, it doesn't really matter. When I'm using the airbrush it can spill out and having it on has saved many pairs of pants.
That makes a lot of sense!
I needed an idea for a character name and it's Collar Boneeyes
What was the printed model of the rad riding the armored fox?
Ratmen Giant Beast by OnePageRules
Nice!!
What were you putting over the bronze? I can't catch the word.
Verdigris was the word. There are paints made specifically for it or you can water down some light teal and get basically the same result.
More Warhammer fantasy please!
Is that the Krautcover Meadows of Purity flock you are using?
It's some kind of Army Painter static grass mixed with beach sand. Kind of going down the route of Geek Gaming Base Ready stuff.
The Nuclear option is to send it to someone with a sandblaster and go at it with the lowest setting.
@@eBayMiniatureRescues Thank you!
@@DrBonesFolo Thanks, I'll look into that!
@@eBayMiniatureRescues ugh, that's nuts. That smacks of "shareholder value"
This models are nice and can he very nice count as for mantic games of the Ver'myn faction
That's a great way to go!
@@eBayMiniatureRescues I have to admit this skaven sculpts are very cool also I really like your work so thanks

"Killing off a bunch of armies, not supporting them and removing them from the game."
I can't think of anything more mis-informing than this statement lol. Quote from the article...." we will continue to support this content with rules and balance updates as needed throughout the edition"
Cmon dude.
Nice save. Fortunately, I no longer play any GW games and I've never been happier.
Womp womp
I've been there, it's a weirdly hard thing to change your mind on, but once you unlock that box and start going after multiple game systems, the sky is the limit for army building!
WOOOWWWWW
Don't you mean RATired warhammer army? Hahahaaaa.
lol, I missed that opportunity and it was right in front of me!!
@eBayMiniatureRescues Happens to us all lol 😆
Wear gloves bro
It's acetone, should be fine, probably
isn't gw just not gonna make those old models anymore? how far i know everything will get legends rules and howlong you don't only play tournament i wouldn't see why peeps would stop using them just because of a legends tag ^^
im planning on buying very old orks to see if i can make the ork commando team with them ^^ and i keep buying 2nd ed termagants as i adore them and love a variation in my swarm ^^
@@eBayMiniatureRescues i get why it upsets peeps, but I also feel that peeps sometimes tied themselves to much to non legends models or what's good (and I feel RUclips doesn't help from peeps miswording it as it's gone and you can't use it to just making hate content but that's also sadly motivated with how the platform works
I did wish peeps were also more open to trying other games, tbh more mini agnostic games would be good ^^
But getting peeps to try is the hard part even if they don't need to buy any minis 😅
But I also have the luxury/privilege that I have peeps with an overall open mindset and that don't mind playing with homebrew, a pretty big local community and almost everyone are super okay with proxies etc
But it would be nice to get an explanation from gw of why they aren't gonna make some 2y old models anymore (some chaos warcry) because I'm kinda curious as they aren't old
@@SpooKimi getting people to try wargames is tough, but at least with model agnostic games it can be a little easier.
Respirator mask and bare hands working with acetone is a laugh too.
Is that really that embarrassing?
I wear it when I need to, when I know things could get messy, otherwise, it doesn't really matter. When I'm using the airbrush it can spill out and having it on has saved many pairs of pants. Also, and here's the biggest thing, when I'm talking, I need a microphone, and hanging it on the apron is much easier than trying to clip it onto my shirt.
