  • So...It's settled, I've completely lost my marbles. Quite a densely-packed video about two awesome pieces of test equipment.

    I got one for free ! I saved it from the trash. Glad someone took time to show how to use it! Thanks for being so passionate!

    This stuff is fascinating, even if it is far beyond my needs. Thank you for sharing what they are and what they do!

      Hehe, yeah, they're awesome. But they go for crazy prices right now, i wouldn't pay more than 5-600$ for one

    There really is something to old pieces of test gear like that. :)

    Oh dear - until watching this I didn't know the HP4145A existed - now I need to remind myself that: a) I really don't need one (I'm getting by with the Peak DCA75), b) I have enough fear that my HP3562a won't start up next time I power it up - more of that would be bad, and c) it's way too big to sneak into the house without someone noticing. On the other hand, awesome curve tracing capability, and HP1345a vector display goodness. The conflict is real...

    Mod some banana jacks on the front to access the four SMUs.

    Great piece of kit, I would like one but its out of my price range, however there are DIY solutions out there that you use with your scope, can you recommend (or the lovely chat) a kit or a circuit diagram for one please ? ...cheers

    4:07 => Isn't the linear and saturation region the other way around? The linear region is the region that Ic has a mathematic linear relation to Ib not because the curve is like a line.

    • @GearAcquisitionSyndrome
      @GearAcquisitionSyndrome  2 года назад +1

      Bad wording on my part. Linear region is where collector current is the hfe times the base current. You'll see that I'm correct, current doesn't increase with collector voltage. It's a bipolar transistor, not a fet, saturation is defined in reverse for a fet

    What did you mean when you said this unit needs a particular fuse at 6:20? Can't it work with a higher one?

    • @GearAcquisitionSyndrome
      @GearAcquisitionSyndrome  Год назад

      That's very dangerous! If something goes wrong and the fuse can't protect the device, that's bad news

    Hi, I recently received a Keithley 236 and 238, incredible devices. I was able to update the A10 firmware for the 238. Do you know where I could download the A10 firmware for the 236, because I see that your Keithley 236 has this A10 version. Thank you.

    Would love to see a tear down. Anything to convince me not to get a parts-only unit from eBay.

    • @GearAcquisitionSyndrome
      @GearAcquisitionSyndrome  2 года назад +1

      Oh no no no, no parts units... These things are enormously complex and there's no service manual

      @@GearAcquisitionSyndrome I consider all units from this era as for parts, as probably none of them will last another 20 years without service.

      @@GearAcquisitionSyndrome I think I mighta missed that, I'll admit I didn't watch the full video. Just picked one of these up locally today with the fixture, and they are very nice units. I'll probably end up modding the floppy to sd in the near future. Very much looking forward to the followup video!
