Thanks for making this device easier to understand. You consistently do a great job of demonstrating products in an approachable manner, helping me to make better purchase decisions.
That is one lovely arp sound with the Spectrvox and effects at 19:50-ish. Everything about this sounds wonderful. I am glad to see Moog adding that into their line up.
Ordered mine right after watching your video. It will join my Subharmonicon, Mother-32, DFAM x 2 and my Taiga, in a newly under manufacture 6-tier stand!
just bought this based off your video & was dang sure to click your affiliate link first 😎 I've been looking for filter-banks all week (not to mention the last few years), always wanted something Moog & this just checked all the boxes. Loopop the GOAT
Loopop adroitly reviewing the new Moog Spectravox now in production. And the Moog is really a Moog replete with all its Moog-like things that we Moog fans know and love. The celestial bodies have favorably aligned.
Glad I didn't sell my extra mini knobs. Also, looks like I may end up needing a 4 tier stand to hold the SS3 along with this gem. Thanks for the video.
it reaallly shines with reverb. Loved it! btw, i am still using the reverb Raum that you have adviced 5 years ago. i think it will be amazing with that
Some great sounds from this thing. Very tempted. I have a Moog DFAM and it's one of my favorite things. Very playable, tweakable and sounds phenomenal. It needs a brother from the same Mother :D This might be the one. Intrigued by the leaked Moog Labyrinth as well.
Thank you very much for sharing "MOscilloscope and MAnalyzer". I use SocaLabs oscilloscope but it's always nice to test other oscilloscope plugins. I wish to buy Rigol oscilloscope but good one is very expensive like for example Mother-32 (same price for new).
If this had a spread control (dial and cv) for the filter frequencies then this would be an instant buy for me. An envelope on that can create all kinds of drum sounds.
future me: Lets go over to our local retailer, "Long & McQuade" and order one! since it's not in stock and you want to support brick and mortar stores and employees and cash...... we can put down a deposit and patiently wait for it to arrive in the store and then finally pick it up, get home as fasty as possible, and hook'r up to the sound studio and get lost in a world of vibration.... (ummmmm , i hope you get a perk from Moog for this....)(ps i love your content!)
Sounds lush! Moog gear always sounds so, good? High quality? Expensive?? Hahah! Slowed down to click, right through to making the dog stare frequencies is so clean and tight. I own zero Moog synths and am in no way a Moog fan boy so more than happy to be told I’m talking nonsense but let me know if you know what I mean by that rambling hahah! This was a real surprise though. Such a wide and varied scope of sounds. Both nasty and beautiful in equal measures. Great video bud.
Moog stuff is pretty high quality, which is why it generally costs more. Give them props for still making synth cases out of metal and wood instead of cheap plastic, too.
It's 2024. I'm really done with mono only, no midi and no saving patches. I look forward to my Pro-800 coming next week. Analog, 8 voices, patch savings, midi, an editor and I can live with the membrane buttons quality.
Yeah if this was stereo with panning per band (plus some kind of panning modulation) I'd buy it in a heartbeat. As a mono I just don't know that I'm going to pick one up, and I own multiples of the other 3 with this form factor..
Definitely interesting, but, already having several devices with vocoder effects that I ignore, I feel like I would quickly drop the spectral aspect and merely use it as a low pass filter 😂
Very nice, but missing individual filter outputs and those plastic pots are just so cheap. Easy enough to fit a splined pot with micro knob (same footprint).
I don't recall Moog making a product similar to a Behringer one unless in your universe time flows backwards, and then wow there are quite a few of them
What exactly does it mean when he said that Moog sent him this unit but no money was exchanged? Does it mean he gets to keep the review unit for himself and could thus sell it for money?
Yes, as I say in the beginning of the video they sent it to me and "other than that no money changed hands". Indeed I can sell it, which is why I mention it in the beginning of the video so you can decide whether to watch or not.
$599. Made in Taiwan reflects our current Inflation rate. But if these were assembled in N.C. USA ( with the Exact Chinese Components ) they’d be $2,500!
Thanks! It's one I got with the original workshop Spectravox - they don't sell them anymore, but it seems like a pretty standard XLR one you might buy online
Not sure if it was just a happy accident or not, but I ❤ the @OmriCohen-Music patch cord colors in the first patch, yellow for pitch and blue for gates 🤘Great video as always!
The 'hold' function suggests that the device in 'free'-mode uses a free running (i.e. continuously updating) sample&hold function to control the VCAs for the carrier signal bands, and in hold mode this will keep the last sampled envelope follower output values for each band pass filter fixed. That implies that the VCAs are controlled on a clocked basis. Is this audible in any way?
Hold doesn't touch the VCAs directly, it indeed "sample and holds" the envelope followers, and yes it's audible for sure on any program audio (you can trigger hold in the patch bay)
Thanks for making this device easier to understand. You consistently do a great job of demonstrating products in an approachable manner, helping me to make better purchase decisions.

Wait, that’s not the old dfam video…
Me at "ah" "AH""ah".
I can imagine this pairing really well with the subharmonicon, and gives them both a bit more of a reason to exist in the mother semi modular series
That is one lovely arp sound with the Spectrvox and effects at 19:50-ish. Everything about this sounds wonderful. I am glad to see Moog adding that into their line up.
Wow. Really appreciate Moog exploring this type of processing! Thanks for the video!
It’s insane. This one is a keeper. Rad explanation. Thank you.
Oh WOW. I was not expecting another semi from Moog. Thanks for the intro and review.
And there’s a fifth coming too. The Labyrinth.
@@final_mile_music9713 That’s cool to know … Thanks!
Comb Filter, the synth. Very cool.
Psytrance producers will gobble this up. That FM-y spectral shift was meaty af
Techno also. Hundreds of producers are getting their orders in now.
Genau daran dachte ich auch! 😎
Yeah I am a psytrance and Acid Techno producer and really going to grab this moog
didn't realize they can normally afford Moogs
@@RJ1J techno is psytrance and psytrance is dischordant disco 😂
Respect to the age old tradition of saying the word "Vocoder" into a vocoder.
That was a great marimba tone! Not something one would expect lol!
Ordered mine right after watching your video. It will join my Subharmonicon, Mother-32, DFAM x 2 and my Taiga, in a newly under manufacture 6-tier stand!
That will be a killer rig! I have pretty much the same setup minus the 2nd DFAM and Taiga. Torn between getting the other DFAM or Spectravox next.
Ordered this. Saw the new Pittsburgh Modular Voltage Lab. Was going to send this back but it’s insane! Pittsburgh will have to wait.
Yesssss! Can't wait to get this one. I was looking for a eurorack compatible vocoder and Moog did it. Looking forward to it. Thank you for this video!
just bought this based off your video & was dang sure to click your affiliate link first 😎 I've been looking for filter-banks all week (not to mention the last few years), always wanted something Moog & this just checked all the boxes. Loopop the GOAT
Much appreciated!
Awesome! 👍🏻 ( and it it will pulverizing the crazy second hand prizes for the Moog Spectravox limited DIY Version ; )

Just got mine...made in Taiwan...no hard copy manual...still charged $599 plus tax....the fleecing has begun......
How did you confirm this?
Nvm I just looked it up I'm actually so sad
This was what I feared, thanks for letting us know. I’ll be waiting for sale or skipping this one entirely
sad
With tax this was almost $1000CAN. But I bought it for my birthday nonetheless.
My financial adviser said I was worth it!
I NEED one right now!
Thanks loopop. Great video and super coverage.
@loopop Nice Daft Punk reference !!!
Another great review and another Moog to add to my collection.
Looks like the Moog fixed filter bank took some good steroids there lmao 🤣
Well i already have the other three. There‘s no way i‘m not getting this
You won’t be disappointed. I really wanted to hate it but in less than an hour it’s found a permanent home.
Thanks for the-as always-very informative and well articulated look at the Spectravox. Please do a vid on the Torso S-4 :)
Glad I didn't sell my extra mini knobs. Also, looks like I may end up needing a 4 tier stand to hold the SS3 along with this gem. Thanks for the video.
Very clear and fun walk-through. Thanks!
This probably dates me, but that opening note had me going "A modern-day warrior / Mean, mean stride......"
Not again haha. I am in. Thank you for review💙
it reaallly shines with reverb. Loved it!

Raum is great, I use it on a ton of stuff
I have very strong opinions on moog now. But I have to admit, this thing is super cool and very inspiring.
Most Moog gear is. That’s why I have a studio full of it.
Love your easy deepness…
Thank you ! 😘
Phrasing!
I was expecting a Hi! through the Spectravox, but still, Loopop's natural robotic voice is unbeatable!
ummm thank you?
Sounds amazing. Was hoping since moog was bought out the price may be a bit more affordable.
I suspect the price will go up to recoup the buy-out costs and of course......the ever increasing margins.
You made it sound great Ziv!
Seems like this could really open up the dfam on a whole new level
That pulse at 16:25 ….!🤩
Amazing peace of gear! There is nothing like Moog!!!!
Behringer enters the chat 😅
Moog never excites me but i'm interested in this
Interesting comment. I can't think of a manufacturer making new gear that DOESN'T excite me. I'm easily excited. LOL. Cheers!
same feelings on my side. im totally digital synth guy, but this functionality is the one i was looking for a long time.
Damn, really wasn't expecting this one! I have fun with the op1f vocoder every once in a while but i'm not Mike Dean enough to have one of these haha
Mike Dean uses this Moog?
Seems like it could be an interesting Mastering chain. Really cool device, Moog. Well done.
Mastering chain… 🧐… yes if you wanna turn someone’s musical creation into a psychedelic mush 😂

In terms of fx this thing is more interesting than the latest Chase Bliss Onward pedal
Wow! The patch at 1:00 sounded like an Eddie Jobson patch from his UK period.
Except it didn't go "Ding Dong!!!"
The ghost of Roger Troutman now grows restless...
A 4th one!!! Def gotta start buying these 4 modules soon! Zzounds here I come!
A voltage controlled comb filter? Wow, what a neat sound!

Great video as always, thanks! Why not do a “stereo” video with the 2024 and the 2019 version side by side. Just a thought 😊
Excellent idea! I mean a video isn’t likely but that sure solves the problem of Spectravox not being in stereo!

Yes - it is better (more clear) than his old ‘disclaimer’, at least … Probably due to comments like this.
Remembered this at Moogfest 2019. Not really interested to pay premium Moog price though when it’s made in Taiwan now. Might as well Behringer.
$599. Made in Taiwan reflects our current Inflation rate. But if these were assembled in N.C. USA ( with the Exact Chinese Components ) they’d be $2,500!

I would love to hear Carl Sagan say ‘pingable filters.’
Would be highly interested in the sonic differences to the Moog 16ch vocoder. Despite targetting a different buyers group.

excellent demo. i was thinking this wasn't for me, i have a Vocoder, but that wonderful marimba and the other wild stuff has sold it to me....
I want one. Seems really cool, especially if you have a CV source with many outputs, and are into filter banks, and sonic experimentation in general.
is it possible to add a dry/wet signal with external gear like an attenuator or something else??
Checks all the boxes. Oh, wait…
hoping this will go nicely with my key step pro and d fam! hmm which one to pair first ...
It’s the radiophonic workshop Iain a box. Well, some of it, anyway.
