Mylar Melodies tagline could be: "Introducing people to empty bank accounts since X" as Jack looked a little too excited there to not being buying a few HP of gear… Moog are very lucky to have him. Please ask the Capt for a better quality overhead cam :)
Gregorian Techno was a thing in the 90s. It was popular in spas and places of that sort. I had a really New Agey gym teacher who made us do aerobics to tacky electronic remixes of like Gregorian chants, inappropriately used indigenous music from different parts of the world, whale song, rainforest sounds, etc....
Fantastic tutorial video for all this gear, delivered in the fun way that only Jack and Alex can! Excellent guys! Jack's enthusiasm is so contagious... :D
Hahaha!!! Me too!!! He was crazy! Loved that presentation! He really loves the dfam and the gear and that is when things get shown the beat way!! I just want him to do a live session with the 3: dfam mother 32 and subharmonicom and why not use several units like 2 mothers and 3 dfam and 2 subharmonicom! Would be pretty amazing and then just have things explained.
@@tarekmansur Thanks Tarek!! I'm a whole year late responding to this, but this is basically what you were mentioning - in case you didn't already see it: ruclips.net/video/7JuhsoJq01Q/видео.html
Oh, good golly. Now I’m a fan! Had my doubts about the SubHarmonicon, and really big doubts about the DFAM. You guys are funny and brilliant, and I’m sold. I’ll be driving down to Asheville to the Moog factory to buy the studio package deal with the DFAM and the SubH. I already hav a glorious Mother32. Need to round out the combo. Thanks for the walk-through on connecting them! Cheers and Thanks, lads!
i didnt understand EG and VCF but now thanks to mylar its making more sense. still a tricky concept for me but now i have an idea. cool video love the subh! just got mine and hooking it via midi to a sequencer solves most problems ppl seem to have had with it imo.
Thanks so much for the great video. It’s perfect for learning the Moogs but I wish I had seen it when I first started because it applies to all synths and the way you guys presented the explanation and then implementation would have saved me years of trying to figure the EG knob out. I really dug the piece that you created. That’s the beauty of these machines. To me they are like a cross between a chemistry set and your favorite pet. Thanks for the pro tip about the 4 tier rack. I had an extra 2 tier after I bought my 3 tier for the trio like you guys presented. I’m going to get an extra empty Moog skiff and put some modular gear up there. Thanks to both of you again for all the education.
This is a great video. I've been using it as a tutorial and playing along with my gear, but I noticed that when I use the Assignable output of the M32, it didn't work. I used the Gate output instead and it did. After I RTFM for the M32, it seems the default Assignable output setting "outputs a 0 to +5v filtered pulse signals from Accented pattern steps only". I had to go into setup mode and change the assignable output to Clock and then everything worked as in the video. Thanks and please do more of the SUBH/DFAM/M32 videos!
Alex's knowledge is unparalleled and Jack is a downright goofball that is irreplaceable. I love you guys except for the fact that you sneakily have me part with my monies everytime you create videos like this! Cheers from sunny Florida!
This summer MOOG announced a 4 tier rack in addition to the existing 2 tier and 3 tier racks !!! www.moogmusic.com/products/mother-semi-modular-multi-tier-rack-stand I need this now. ;)
I was wondering how you have the audio outputs running on this 3 tier setup. As I am aware each device has only 1 out for audio. And which or what is going into reverb pedal?
DFAM and Mother are in mono running into Radial Pro DI boxes then a UA Apollo X8. The Subharmonicon comes out mono in the the Empress reverb then that goes in stereo through the DI boxes in to the interface. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching mate
@@jackduxbury1632 I'm not familiar with the Radial Pro's, those are just to filter out excessive noise? And I would assume you have 2 ProDI's (1 for DFAM & 1 for Mother) then 1 ProD2 for the Stereo aspect. Hope I got that correct.
Spot on with the gear guess. We go through the DI's just out of habit and it allows us to lift a ground if there's hum (as you said) aswell as have a consistency of connection (Balanced Line Level In) X
@@jackduxbury1632 TY for getting back to me. Modular is new to me. I have a Mother-32 now & plan to put together a 3-tier setup, Mother,DFAM & Subharmonicon. There aren't many full setup video's or info for Audio connection's but there sure is alot on patching..LOL go figure.
Absolutely wonderful video "tutorial"! This was super helpful (i was actually able to create something listenable thanks to following along) I love this sort of coaching session and it worked really well. Both of you were great to listen to and you covered a ton of info. Thank you so much!
I was super skeptical of the DFAM when it was first released. It seemed like a half-baked drum machine with a limited 8-step sequencer and no midi. I’m happy to admit that I was very wrong with that initial impression. After watching more vids (including by Mylar Melodies) I became intrigued by how enthusiastic everyone seemed. Anyway, I bought one last month. I can honestly say it’s the most fun I’ve had with a piece of gear in a long time. I don’t expect that I’ll write many complete tracks with it, but I walk away from an hour of noodling with a big smile on my face and feeling super positive about music making generally. It’s heaps of fun and really immediate and inspiring. I recommend playing one for a few minutes in a store if possible and you may be surprised by how much you like it.
DFAM is a 500 quid techno machine.. Moog should have called the Jeff Mills, you can lose hours with it,such and engaging and joyous machine. Also as true as that statement is for me the Subharmonicon is unbelievable, I try adore it.
Got to say .. 2 grand worth of gear ... sounds totally rubbish ... come on ! So expensive! Paying for the name ... need to pay for other gear to make it sound better ... would maybe buy if half the price . How come waldorf can do better , cheaper..
That's weird how Goom synths have their patch bay on the left side
Is it pronounced like "gume" or "gome"?

It's been some days now and I'm still waiting for Gregorian techno...
I immediately thought of Moa Pillar (album: Humanity). And then of James Holden (album: the Inheritors).
Don’t forget about Enigma
Alex and Jack in a video together talking about the Moog holy trinity. Holy crap. This day cannot get any better.

Excellent video! Worth it for Jack’s reaction at 44:29 alone ✌️
This has got to be one of my favorite videos ever. He's straight up like a kid learning these synths 😂
Name a more iconic duo than Alex and Jack
Luke (Korg) and Jack & Remy (Roland) and Jack. ;)
Jack and Luke from Korg
Zippy and George
Can't win Wayne and Garth, don't try. Partytime, excellent.
Gaz and Nick Batt.
Gregorian techno exists in the form of the group Enigma from the 1990s. Check out “Sadness Part 2” for their most famous track.
That man is an imposter. He obviously works for Moog's mortal enemy, pooM.
I like this video because it's far more reflective of what normal humans can create with this gear

Great knowledge and helpful tutorial, but I don't think you let the other dude finish a single sentence!

Subharmonicon is enticingly enigmatic, DFAM is a £500 analogue kick, Change my mind.

What Medard said! It's a £500 kick here, but it's a lot more than a kick if you get into working it hard...!

The DFAM is a techno monster. So much more than just a kick to the point that a second one is more appealing to me than adding a M32 or Subharmonicon.

Where can I get a four tier rack like that Alex?
It's actually just the 3-tier rack but the synths are mounted into it upside down! This allows an "extra spot" on the bottom
You can just google “moog 4-tier rack kit” and a bunch of online retailers sell them now.
